Abstract

A feed container device (1, 4) comprising a tube- and/or funnel-shaped inlet (5) connected to a container (6). The container has an open side, which in a plane of its longitudinal axis is provided with a grate (7), and an open bottom formed with a detachable blocking device (8). The container device is used for installation at farrowing boxes or pens and for packing with nest-building material such as hay or straw or other activation material completely or partly made of fabric.

Description

Container device and use
The invention relates to a container device.
The invention furthermore relates to use of the container device .
It is commonly known to use so-called feeding racks to give hay/straw or bedding to livestock.
Through the recent years EU, among others, has prescribed that the animals must be given investigation and manipulation material, and lately it has been prescribed that for example in-pig sows must have access to nest-building material in the first week they are put in a farrowing box or pen and thereafter access to investigation and manipulation material hereafter referred to as activation material.
In this regard it is known to combine feeding rack frames that delivers nest-building material, such as hay/straw to the sows with tube-shaped holding devices for supplying wood laths, which can be used as activation material.
It however turns out that there are some disadvantages of the hitherto prior art, including that it is expensive to have several products placed at farrowing pen and boxes.
DK 177 233 Bl (IKADAN SYSTEM A/S) July, 16th 2012 describes a dispenser/container for shredded straw where the dispenser has a reservoir with an inlet opening and a dispenser opening. The reservoir can have a flat side and be divided into an upper, central and lower part. The upper part is shaped as a funnel with an inlet opening, and a lower part shaped with a dispenser opening that is provided with a permanent grate. Finally, the lower part of the flat side is arranged with a grate used for example to dispense shredded straw.
There is however some disadvantages of the prior art know from DK 177 233 Bl, including that the container device only has a partly open side with a grate, which makes it difficult to use the container device for wood laths, it is moreover a disadvantage that the container device in the bottom is provided with a permanent grate, which limits the usability of the container device.
It is thus an object of the invention to provide a technique without the above-mentioned disadvantages.
The object of the invention is realized by a container device of the kind mentioned in the preamble of claim 1 and which is characterized in that the container device is formed with a tube- and/or funnel-shaped inlet to a container that has an entirely open side, which in a plane of the longitudinal axis is provided with a grate, and in the bottom is formed with a detachable blocking device. The entirely open side and the detachable blocking device makes it possible to use the container device for several materials, which together covers the needs for material demanded by animal welfare and legislation. Other expedient embodiments of the container device are mentioned in claims 2 and 3. As mentioned, the invention also relates to the use of the above-mentioned container device for installment at farrowing boxes or pens.
The invention relates moreover to the use of the above- mentioned container device for packaging of nest-building material such as hay or straw, or packaging of activation material such as one or more wood laths.
In this way it becomes possible to use the container device to supply the sows with the types of material that are a precondition for the animals to thrive optimally.
The invention is hereafter explained in greater detail with reference to the drawings, where:
Fig. 1 shows a container device installed at a farrowing pen where the container device is used for packaging of nest- building material in the form of hay.
Fig. 2 shows a container device installed at a farrowing pen where the container device is used for packaging of activation material in the form of a wood lath.
Fig. 3 shows a. perspective view of a preferred embodiment of a container device according to the invention.
Fig.- 4 shows a selective enlargement of the container device shown in fig. 3.
Fig. 5 shows another perspective view of the same container device as shown in fig. 3. Fig. 6 shows a selective enlargement of the container device shown in fig. 5.
Fig. 7 shows a container device, which at the top is provided with a fastening device that connects the container device with the one end of a spring, where the other end of the spring is provided with a fastening device whereto a nest- building and/or activation material is fastened.
In figs. 1 and fig. 2 are shown a container device 1 with same functionality as the container device 4 that is shown in fig. 3 and in fig. 5.
The container device 1,4 is designed to be able to handle regular as well as finely-cut straw, so that it is easy to give nest-building material and investigation and manipulation material to the sow.
The container device 1,4 may comprise a metering unit. When the sow pushes the metering unit upwards the straw is metered in relation to the set amount. The sow is occupied by activating the metering unit and gets nest-building and investigation and manipulation material in the form of the straw .
The straw of the container device 1,4 can be replaced by wood laths without use of tools by removing the blocking device 8 that, cf. fig. 3 and fig. 5, is positioned in the bottom of the container device 4.
By using the same container device 1,4 that exists in a version with and without funnel-shape, and by installing a grate 7 on one side of the container device 1,4 and placing the container device 1,4 on the pipe grate of a farrowing box, the container device 1,4 may function both as "feeding rack" for ordinary straw bedding or cut straw.
It is hereby ensured that, when there is straw in the container device 1,4, the sows, as demanded by the law, always have access to nest-building material in the first week, and that when a wood lath is put in the sow subsequently has access to investigation and manipulation material.
The container device 1,4 may thus be used both for straw bedding and wood laths, when it is installed on the sides of the farrowing box.
Fig. 1 shows a container device 1 installed at a farrowing pen, where the container device 1 is used for packaging of nest-building material in the form of hay 2.
Fig. 2 shows a container device 1 installed at a farrowin pen, where the container device 1 is used for packaging o activation material in the form of a wood lath 3.
In fig. 3 is shown a preferred embodiment of a container device 4 that is formed with a funnel-shaped 7 inlet, and a container 6 that has an open side that in a plane of the longitudinal axis is provided with a grate 7, and in the bottom is formed with a detachable blocking device 8. In fig. 4 is shown a selective enlargement A of fig. 3, where an angled end 9 of the blocking device 8 is shown. In fig. 6 is shown a selective enlargement B from fig. 5, where a locking device 10 is put in an end of the blocking device 8. The tube and/or funnel-shaped inlet 5 is preferably made from a polymeric material, and where the grate 7 and the blocking device 8 is preferably made of a metallic material.
In fig. 7 is shown a container device 1, which at the top is provided with a fastening device 11 such as a snap hook that connects the container device 1 with the one end of a spring 12, where the other end of the spring 12 is provided with a fastening device 11 such as a snap hook whereto a nest- building and/or activation material 14 is attached.
In a preferred embodiment the nest-building and/or activation material 14 can be completely or partly made from a fabric.
With the configuration shown in fig. 7 an animal, such as a sow, can be occupied and activated by biting in the spring- suspended nest-building and/or activation material 14.
Moreover, the spring suspension has the advantage that when the sow releases its bite the nest-building and/or activation material 14 is pulled free of the plane of the floor whereby it is kept free of impurities from the floor of the farrowing pen .
The invention comprises use of the above-mentioned container device 1,4 for installment at farrowing boxes or pens. The invention also comprises use of the above-mentioned container device 1,4 installed at the farrowing boxes or pens for packaging of nest-building material such as hay 2 or straw, or packaging of activation material such as one or more wood laths 3.
