Description

WALLET BASED LOANS
The present disclosure generally relates to digitization of services.
It finds applications, in particular while not exclusively, in communication equipments such as user mobile terminals (Personal Digital Assistants, Smartphones, laptops).
Recent mobile terminals implement more and more functionalities on top of classical voice communication or text messaging. In particular, with the proliferation of technologies like Near Field Communication (NFC) or "Cloud", digitization of currency has been rendered possible at the level of mobile user terminals. It is for example possible to pay for goods and services through an enabler service called "Mobile Wallet".
However, such service is only adapted to simulate cash payments and does not enable to transport many of the current financial products, such as loans for example.
To address these needs, a first aspect of the disclosure relates to a method implemented by a computer apparatus for performing a communication related to transaction for a good for sale, the method being performed by a user side system and comprising:
capturing information data about a good for sale, the information data comprising at least a first price value;
sending a request message to a plurality of remote servers indicating that a loan is required to finance the payment of the good for sale, said request message comprising the information data about the good for sale;
receiving a loan proposal message from at least one remote server in response to the request message, the loan proposal message comprising a loan amount value.
The method further comprises a comparison between the first price value and the loan amount value, and, if the first price value is greater than the loan amount value of the loan proposal indicated in the loan proposal message, updating the first price value and repeating the previous steps by sending a new request message to the plurality of remote servers, the new request message comprising the updated first price value, and, if the first price value is equal to or less than the loan amount value of the loan proposal indicated in the loan proposal message, processing a transaction for the good for sale according to the loan amount value.
The first price value can for example be a fraction of the price value of the good the user is willing to pay using a loan. By user side system, it is meant a system comprising at least one user terminal, which is preferably mobile, such as a Smartphone or a PDA for example. Therefore, an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure enables to improve the financial functionalities implemented in mobile terminals. Indeed, loans can be required when shopping at a retail store for example, thus enriching the payment possibilities for the user.
Iterating the steps of the method until a global loan amount value reaches the first price value enables to improve the flexibility of the method. Indeed, the user can progressively select loan proposals, which conditions are satisfying for the user, and, after having accepted a first loan proposal having a loan amount value less than the first price value, requesting a new loan proposal for the remaining part of the first price value.
The first price value can be updated by decreasing the first price value from the loan amount value of the received loan proposal message.
According to some embodiments, the user side system comprises a user mobile terminal and a wallet server and the method further comprises:
after information data has been captured about the good for sale by the user mobile terminal, sending an initial request message to the wallet server, the initial request message comprising the information data about the good for sale, and
after receiving at least one loan proposal message at the wallet server, transmitting at least one received loan proposal message to the user mobile terminal so as to enable the user mobile terminal to present at least one received loan proposal message to a user. If the first price value is greater than the loan amount value of the loan proposal indicated in the loan proposal message, the method is repeated from sending the initial request message.
These embodiments enable to have a centralized entity, the wallet server, which is arranged to access a plurality of remote servers and which can be accessed by a plurality of mobile user terminals. The mobile user terminal can be transported by the user to be used in retail stores for example.
In complement, several loan proposal messages can be received by the wallet server and presented by the user mobile terminal to the user, the user can select one or several loan proposals indicated in the presented loan proposal messages, the first price value is updated and the previous steps are repeated only if the loan amount value of the selected loan proposal or the sum of the loan amount values of the selected loan proposals is less than the first price value.
This enables the user to select several loan proposals at a time and therefore avoids, in some cases, waiting for a new initial request message to be generated.
Alternatively or in complement, capturing information data about the good for sale is performed by the user mobile terminal by scanning the good for sale.
This enables to use recent functionalities of Smartphones for example, to facilitate information data capturing.
In some embodiments, information data about the good for sale also comprises a maximum interest rate value and the at least one loan proposal message further comprises an interest rate value, the interest rate value being less than the maximum interest rate value.
This ensures that the loan proposals indicated in the received loan proposal messages are relevant for the user and therefore enables the remote sever to avoid sending loan proposal messages that will not be considered by the user, because of a too high interest rate value.
Alternatively or in complement, information data about the good for sale also comprises a minimum loan duration value and the at least one loan proposal message further comprises loan duration value, the loan duration value being greater than the minimum loan duration value. This ensures that the received loan proposals indicated in the received loan proposal messages are relevant for the user and therefore enables the remote sever to avoid sending loan proposal messages that will not be considered by the user, because of a too short loan duration value.
According to some embodiments, upon reception of several loan proposal messages by the wallet server, the method further comprises sorting the received loan proposal messages based on at least one of the following criteria:
loan amount value of the loan proposal indicated in the proposal message; loan duration value of the loan proposal indicated in the proposal message;
interest rate value of the loan proposal indicated in the proposal message. A sorted list of loan proposal messages can then be transmitted to the user mobile terminal by the wallet server.
This enables to further improve the relevancy of the loan proposals indicated in the loan proposal messages and to facilitate the selection by the user of one or several loan proposals.
Alternatively, when, for at least one subset of loan proposal messages among loan proposal messages received by the wallet server, a sum of loan amount values of the loan proposals indicated in the loan proposal messages of the subset is equal to the first price value of the good for sale, then the subset of loan proposal messages can be transmitted to the user mobile terminal so as to enable the user mobile terminal to present the subset to the user.
This enables to avoid resending new initial request messages by the mobile user terminal as the user can only select loan proposals or set of loan proposals that would enable him to pay for the good for sale.
In some embodiments, the wallet server comprising a user database storing personal data concerning the user, the request message sent by the wallet server to the plurality of remote servers further comprises personal data concerning the user from which the initial request message is originating.
This enables to provide creditors with personal data concerning the user, to determine if the user is solvent or not for example. A second aspect of the disclosure concerns a computer program product recorded on a non-transitory storage medium and executable by a computer in the form of a software agent including at least one software module setup to implement the method according to the first aspect of the disclosure.
A third aspect of the disclosure relates to a user side system for performing a data communication related to transaction for a good for sale, the user side system comprising:
- a capturing unit for capturing information data about a good for sale, said information data comprising at least a first price value;
- a transmitting unit for transmitting a request message comprising at least said information data to a plurality of remote servers, the request message indicating that a loan is required to finance the payment of the good for sale;
- a receiving unit for receiving a loan proposal message from at least one remote server, in response to the request message, the loan proposal message comprising a loan amount value;
- a processor for comparing the loan amount value with the first price value.
If the first price value is greater than the loan amount value, the processor is arranged to update the first price value and the transmitting unit is arranged to transmit a new request message comprising the updated first price value, and, if the first price value is equal to or less than the loan amount value, the transaction for the good for sale is processed according to the loan proposal value.
According to some embodiments, the user side system comprises a mobile user terminal and a wallet server. The mobile user terminal comprises:
the capturing unit for capturing information data about the good for sale, - the processor, which is arranged for generating an initial request message comprising the information data about the good for sale,

the receiving unit for receiving at least one loan proposal message.
The wallet server is arranged to transmit at least one received loan proposal message to the user mobile terminal and the user mobile terminal further comprises an interface to present at least one received loan proposal message to a user.
A fourth aspect of the disclosure concerns a server for proposing loans for a good for sale, the server comprising:
a receiving unit for receiving from a user side system a request message indicating that a loan is required, the request message comprising information data about a good for sale, the information data including at least a first price value;
a processor for generating a loan proposal message based on at least the first price value, the loan proposal message comprising at least a loan amount value;
a transmitting unit for transmitting the loan proposal message to the wallet server in response to the request message.

Alternatively or in complement, the request message further comprises a minimum loan duration value, the processor is arranged to determine a loan duration value for the loan proposal indicated in the loan proposal message, the loan duration value being less than the minimum loan duration value.
The present disclosure is illustrated by way of example, and not by way of limitation, in the figures of the accompanying drawings, in which like reference numerals refer to similar elements and in which: Figure 1 represents a system according to some embodiments of the disclosure;
Figure 2 is a general flowchart representing the main steps of a method according to some embodiments of the disclosure;
- Figure 3 shows a communication scenario between a mobile user terminal, a wallet server and remote servers, according to some embodiments of the disclosure.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a system according to some embodiments of the disclosure.
The system comprises a user side system 1 arranged to communicate with a plurality of n remote servers 2.1-2.n. In the preferred embodiments described hereafter, the remote servers are creditors such as banks, government controlled agencies or private creditors, and the user side system 1 comprises a mobile user terminal 3 and a wallet server 4. The mobile user terminal 3 can be a Smartphone, a laptop or a touchpad. An application dedicated to payment services can be executed on the mobile user terminal 3 and can enable the mobile user terminal 3 to access the wallet server 4.
In what follows, the context of a user shopping at a retail store is considered.
The mobile user terminal 3 comprises a scanning unit 30, a Graphical User Interface 31, a processing unit 32 and an interface 33 (receiving/transmitting unit). The scanning unit 30 enables the user to scan a bar code of a good for sale at the retail store, in order to acquire information data about the good for sale. Such information data can include a value of a price of the good for sale. The price value can be acquired during the checkout of the good or before the checkout. The price value can also be entered manually by the user, using the GUI 31.
When the price value is scanned, the user can decide to select a payment mode on the GUI 31. For example, the user can directly pay the good by debiting his bank account or, more generally, an account associated with the mobile user terminal 3. According to an exemplary embodiment of the disclosure, the user can also choose to require loans from remote creditors.
For example, if the price value of a product is 100 dollars, the user can choose to directly pay 50 dollars from his bank account and to require at least one loan for the remaining 50 dollars. The fraction of the price value for which a loan is required (50 dollars) is called "first price value" in what follows. Of course, the user can choose to pay the whole price value of the good using loans.
To require at least one loan, the processor 32 can generate an initial request message indicating that at least one loan is required to finance the payment of the good for sale. The initial request message can contain the first price value. The user can enter via the GUI 31 a maximum interest rate value that is acceptable for him and/or a minimum rate duration value. This information data can also be included in the initial request message.
The initial request message is then transmitted by the interface 33 to the wallet server 4. No restriction is attached to the interface 33, which can be a wired port or a Wi-fi transmitter. The wallet server 4 is for example accessible through an IP network.
The wallet server 4 comprises a first interface 40 (receiving/transmitting unit), a processor 41, a second interface 42 (receiving/transmitting unit) and a user database.
The first interface 40 is arranged to communicate with the mobile user terminal 3. Upon reception of the initial request message, the processor 41 is arranged to generate a request message intended to the plurality of remote servers 2.1-2.n.
Upon reception, the initial request message can also be registered in the user database, in association with an identifier of the user for example. Therefore, user profiles can be created, each user profile being associated with a given user. The wallet server 4 can thus be accessed by a plurality of mobile user terminals, and is not dedicated to a given mobile user terminal. The request message generated by the processor 41 can comprise the first price value contained in the initial request message. The request message can also include personal data concerning the user from which the initial request message is originating. Such data can for example be credit reports. Credit reports enable the creditors respectively associated with the remote servers 2.1-2.n to determine if a user is solvent or if he had delay in reimbursing previous loans. The data contained in the request message can also be the information included in the initial request message (maximum interest rate value and/or minimum loan duration value). In what follows, we consider that the user has specified in the initial request message that the maximum interest rate value is 10 percents and that the minimum loan duration value is one month.
The request message is then sent to the remote servers 2.1-2.n via the second interface 42.
Each remote server from the plurality can receive the request message via respective interfaces 2. l l-2.nl (receiving/transmitting unit). Each remote server also comprises a processor 2.12-2.n2. As previously described, a remote server can represent banks, government controlled agencies or private creditors. Government controlled agencies can propose loans in the form of subsidized payments.
Each processor 2.12-2.n2 is arranged to take into account the first price value comprised in the request message, and optionally the credit reports, maximum interest rate value and/or minimum duration value concerning the user, to determine if a loan can be proposed and conditions of the loans.
For example, the processor 2.12 of the remote server 2.11 may decide to propose a loan of 30 dollars with an interest rate value of 5 percents and a loan duration value of one month.
The processor 2.22 of the remote server may decide to propose a loan of 20 dollars with an interest rate value of 6 percents and a loan duration value of one month. The processor 2.n2 of the remote server may decide to propose a loan of 50 dollars with an interest rate value of 10 percents and a loan duration value of two months.
Other remote servers 2.k, k being comprised between 1 and n may decide not to propose any loan, for example because of the credit reports concerning the user.
The loan proposal messages are then sent to the wallet server 4.
According to a first embodiment, the wallet server 4 has a filtering function. Indeed, upon reception of the loan proposal messages, the wallet server 4 is arranged to sort the loan proposal messages.
Based on information data stored in the user database 43, the processor 41 can sort the received loan proposal messages. For example, the user may have previously specified that the loans have to be sorted by increasing interest rate values. The processor 41 then sorts the loan proposal messages to obtain a ranked list, such as follows:
loan of 30 dollars with an interest rate value of 5 percents and a loan duration value of one month (creditor associated with the remote server
2.1) ;
loan of 20 dollars with an interest rate value of 6 percents and a loan duration value of one month (creditor associated with the remote server
2.2) ;
loan of 50 dollars with an interest rate value of 10 percents and a loan duration value of two months (creditor associated with the remote server 2.n).
Other criteria can be taken into account to sort the loan proposal messages. For example, the user may have previously specified that the loans have to be sorted from the longest loan duration value to the shortest. The processor 41 then sorts the loan proposal messages to obtain a ranked list, such as follows: loan of 50 dollars with an interest rate value of 10 percents and a loan duration value of two months (creditor associated with the remote server 2.n);
loan of 30 dollars with an interest rate value of 5 percents and a loan duration value of one month (creditor associated with the remote server
2.1) and loan of 20 dollars with an interest rate value of 6 percents and a loan duration value of one month (creditor associated with the remote server 2.2).
Alternatively, the user can also be interested by loans with the highest loan amount value. The processor 41 then sorts the loan proposal messages to obtain a ranked list such as follows:
loan of 50 dollars with an interest rate value of 10 percents and a loan duration value of two months (creditor associated with the remote server 2.n);
- loan of 30 dollars with an interest rate value of 5 percents and a loan duration value of one month (creditor associated with the remote server 2.1);
loan of 20 dollars with an interest rate value of 6 percents and a loan duration value of one month (creditor associated with the remote server 2.2).
Alternatively, combinations of the above detailed criteria can be taken into account by the processor 41 to sort the loan proposal messages. For example, loan duration value, loan amount value and interest rate value can be weighted to obtain a global criterion.
The ranked list of loan proposal messages can then be forwarded to the mobile user terminal 3.
The mobile user terminal 3 can then display the ranked loan proposal messages on the GUI 31 , so that the user can select one or several loan proposals. The user can then accept a loan proposal by sending an agreement message to the creditor so that the creditor can transfer money on a bank account of the user or directly on a bank account of the seller of the good for sale.
According to a second embodiment, all the loan proposal messages are forwarded by the wallet server 4 to the mobile user terminal 3 without being ranked. The user can then select on the GUI 31 one or several loan proposals among a non- ranked list.
When a user has selected one or several loan proposals on the GUI 31, the processor 32 may compare the loan amount value of the selected loan proposal (or the sum of the loan amount values of the selected loan proposals) with the first price value. In case the loan amount value of the selected loan proposal is less than the first price value, the mobile user terminal 3 updates the first price value, by decreasing the first price value from the loan amount value of the selected loan proposal (or from the sum of the loan amount values of the selected loan proposals). This is the case if the user has only selected the loan proposal having a loan amount value of 20 dollars or the loan proposal having the loan amount value of 30 dollars. The mobile user terminal 3 can then propose to the user, via the GUI 31 , to require another loan for the remaining part of the first price value (20 dollars if the user has previously selected the loan proposal having a loan amount value of 30 dollars). If the user accepts, a new request message is generated by the processor 32, comprising information data including the updated first price value, and the new initial request message is sent to the wallet server 4. Alternatively, the mobile user terminal can also generate a new initial request message without requiring the agreement of the user.
The wallet server 4 then processes the other initial request message the same way as the initial request message.
In what has been described before, the user progressively selects loan proposals until the sum of the loan amount values reaches the first price value. However, in an alternative embodiment, described in what follows, the wallet server 4 does not transmit the loan proposal messages until the first price value has been reached.
To this end, upon reception of the previously detailed three loan proposal messages, the processor 41 of the wallet server checks if a loan amount value of a loan proposal indicated in a loan proposal message matches the first price value or if a sum of loan amount values of different loan proposals indicated in different loan proposal messages matches the first price value.
In the example described above, the first price value is 50 dollars and the loan amount values of the loan proposals are 20 dollars, 30 dollars and 50 dollars. The processor 41 can then packetize the loan proposal messages having the loan amount values of 20 and 30 dollars to obtain a set of loan proposal messages having a global loan amount value of 50 dollars, equal to the first price value. The wallet server 4 can then send said set of loan proposal messages along with the loan proposal message having the loan amount value of 50 dollars, to the mobile user terminal 3.
As previously described, the loan proposal messages can be ranked, for example depending on the interest rate value. The set of loan proposal messages having a global amount of 50 dollars can be presented first in the ranked list because the global interest rate value (5.4 percents = (20*6 + 30*5)/50) is less than the interest value rate of the loan proposal message having the loan amount value of 50 (10 percents).
In case the wallet server 4 can not obtain any set of loan proposal messages for which the sum of the loan amount values matches the first price value, the wallet server 4 can send another request message to the remote servers 2.1-2.n, so that new loan proposal messages can be received from the plurality of remote servers 2. l-2.n.
No restriction is attached to the structure of the user side system 1. For example, all the functions described above of the wallet server 4 can be integrated in the mobile user terminal 3 so that the user side system 1 is a single entity. Ref erring to Figure 2, there is shown a general flowchart illustrating the main steps of a method according to some embodiments of the disclosure.
At step 201, the user side system 1 (and in particular the mobile user terminal 3, in the example described above) captures information data about the good for sale. Information data comprises at least a first price value. The first price value can be a fraction of the price value of the good for sale or can be the total price value of the good for sale. Information can optionally comprise a maximum interest rate value and/or a minimum loan duration value (or other user parameters).
At step 202, the user side system 1 sends a request message to the plurality of remote servers 2.1-2.n, the request message indicating that a loan is required to finance the payment of the good for sale and comprising at least the captured information data.
At step 203, at least one loan proposal message is received from a remote server, the loan proposal message comprising a loan amount value.
At step 204, the loan amount value is compared with the first price value. If the loan amount value is equal to the first price value, payment can be processed at step 205 (or the bank account of the user can be alternatively credited).
If the loan amount value is less than the first price value, the first price value is updated at step 206 and the method is iterated from step 202.
Referring to Figure 3, there is shown a communication scenario between the mobile user terminal 3, the wallet server 4 and the remote servers 2.1-2.n according to some embodiments of the disclosure. This scenario is only given for the sake of better understanding and does not limit the scope of the disclosure.
At step 301, the mobile user terminal 3 is used to scan a good for sale to acquire the price value of the good, by the scanning unit 30. The price value of the good can also be manually entered by the user, by the GUI 31. The user then selects a fraction of the price value for which a loan is required (called first price value, as previously explained). The user can also set other preferences such as maximum interest rate value and/or minimum loan duration value.
Preferences and the first price value together form information data about the good for sale.
At step 302, an initial request message is sent to the wallet server 4 indicating that a loan is required, the initial request message comprising the information data about the good for sale.
At step 303, the wallet server stores the initial request message in the user database 42 and generates a request message that comprises the information data about the good for sale. The request message can further comprise credit reports stored in the user database 43 and that concern the user from which the initial request message is originating.
The request message is then sent at step 304 to the plurality of remote servers 2.1-2.n. At step 305, each processor 2.12-2.n2 of each remote server 2.1-2.n processes the request message to determine if a loan can be proposed and, if appropriate, to determine the conditions (interest rate value, loan duration value, loan amount value) of the loan. To this end, the processors 2.12-2.n2 take into account the first price value and optionally the user preferences and the credit reports.
Remote servers that accept to propose loans to the user then send loan proposal messages at step 306 to the wallet server 4.
At step 307, the wallet server 4 can rank the received loan proposal messages based on predefined user criteria, such as loan amount value of the loan proposals, interest rate values and/or loan duration values.
The ranked list of loan proposal messages is then transmitted at step 308 to the mobile user terminal 3. As previously explained, in an alternative embodiment, the loan proposal messages can be forwarded to the mobile user terminal 3 without being ranked by the wallet server 4.
At step 309, the ranked list of loan proposal messages is displayed to the user via the GUI 31, so that the user can select one or several of the loan proposals. Upon selection of at least one loan proposal (for example the loan proposal of remote server 2.1), an agreement message is sent at step 310 to the wallet server 4 and intended to the remote server 2.1. The wallet server 4 forwards the agreement message to the remote server 2.1 at step 311.
At step 312, the remote server 2.1 validates the agreement between the creditor corresponding to the remote server 2.1 and the user. A bank account of the user or a bank account of the seller of the good can then be credited by the creditor.
Coming back to step 309, the processor 32 checks whether the loan amount value of the selected loan proposal (or the sum of the loan amount values of the selected loan proposals) is equal to the first price value or not.
If not, the first price value can be updated as previously explained and a new initial request message comprising the updated first price value is sent to the wallet server 4. The wallet server 4 processes the new initial request message as explained in step 303, and the preceding steps are repeated until the selected loan proposal is equal to the first price value.
As detailed above, the disclosure is not restricted to the example illustrated on Figure 3. Indeed, the wallet server 4, at step 307, can determine sets of loan proposal messages for which the sum of the loan amount values equals the first price value or can update the first price value and resend request messages to the remote servers 2.1-2. n.
