BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION INCLUDING PRIOR ART
A burr is a raised edge or unwanted pieces of material remaining attached to a workpiece after a modification process. Burrs are most commonly created on a material after machining operations, such as grinding, drilling, milling, engraving or turning. Burrs are often not acceptable, usually for safety reasons, either for handling or for product safety.
Deburring is the process by which this" unwanted piece of material is removed with the help of a deburring tool. Deburring Can also be called a finishing process in which burrs and sharp edges are removed from metals, plastics and other work piece material. There are many deburring processes, but the most common are mass-finishing, media blasting, sanding, grinding, wire brushing, abrasive flow machining, electrochemical deburring, electro-polishing, thermal energy method, machining, and manual deburring etc. Manual deburring is the most common deburring process, because it is the most flexible process. It requires low cost tools and allows for instant inspection.

Although a wide variety of hand deburring tools or blades are available in the prior art, they usually have a single cutting edge in a straight line. Another object pf the invention is to provide for a multi cutting edge deburring blade/tool in which a single blade can have different included angles or geometric shapes between the two cutting edge surfaces of the different cutting edge segments of the same blade. Still another object of the invention is to provide for a multi cutting edge deburring blade/tool which is made of different types of cutting tool materials such as High Speed Steel, carbide, ceramic and others.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide for a multi cutting edge deburring blade/tool which has a total life equivalent to the sum total of the life from each segment of the cutting blade.
A further object of the present invention is to provide for a multi cutting edge deburring blade/tool which is extremely cost effective.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention is a multi cutting edge deburring blade/tool which has multiple segments of cutting edge along the total length of the cutting edge. Each segment of this cutting edge becomes effective1 cutting edge portion. As the angles between cutting edge, surfaces may be same or different a single blade can have different geometric shapes of the cutting edge portions of the same blade. This allows possibility of deburring different types of material applications from different cutting edge portions of the same blade. The new deburring blade/tool can be made of different types of cutting tool materials like HSS, carbide, ceramic and others depending on its use. As there are multiple segments of cutting edges, the total life of this blade/tool will be the sum total of the life of each of the segments thus increasing the life of the blade/tool. This way the present invention proves to be extremely cost effective.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
The nature of the invention and the manner in which it is performed is clearly described in the specification. The invention has various components and they are clearly described in the detailed description.
Deburring Tools based on Swivel Blade design have been in existence since over 40 years. These types of tools/blades are one piece construction normally made out of cutting tool material such as High Speed Steel (HSS). They are made by bending the tool blank in a crank shape, heat-treating them and then grinding them in different profiles. Usually these tools are made in 2.6, 3.17 and 6 mm diameter. All these deburring blades are one piece construction having a single cutting edge in a straight line. They have a groove design on one end due to which they can be held in the handle such that they cannot be pulled out but are still free to rotate around the axis of the handle. Due to this rotational / swivel property, these deburring blades work effectively for deburring of holes, straight edges and inner curves of various metals and plastics. The cutting edge length in these crank shaped deburring blades varies between 8 mm in a 2.6 mm diameter blade to upto 25 mm in a 6 mm diameter blade. However in such blades the effective cutting edge length from where these blades can be efficiently used is only between 2 to 3 mm. Once this effective cutting edge portion gets worn, out i.e. becomes blunt or dull, the blade needs to be replaced.
The present invention is a multi cutting edge deburring blade/tool which has segmented cutting edge design. Due to this there are two or more segments of cutting edge along the total length of the cutting edge. Each segment of this cutting edge becomes an effective cutting edge portion. So as there are multiple segments of cutting edge, there are more than one effective cutting edge portion in this blade. This way, instead of the conventional single cutting edge, this tool/blade has multiple cutting edges. Each of these multiple cutting edges is an effective cutting edge portion and so this tool/blade can be used from each of the effective cutting edges.
At the end of each cutting edge segment, there is a guide section on either one or two sides of the cutting edge surface. The guide section could be in 'V shape or in combination of straight & radius. The included angle (geometric shapes) between two cutting edge surfaces can be same or different between the various cutting edge segments. Thus a single blade can have different geometric shapes of the cutting edge portions of the same blade. This too enables the deburring of different types of material applications from different cutting edge portions of the same blade.
The present invention which is a new deburring blade/tool can be made from different types of cutting tool materials such as HSS (High Speed Steel), carbide, ceramic and others. As this blade/tool has multiple segments of cutting edges, it doesn't get worn out soon like the conventional deburring blades/tools. Instead the total life of this blade/tool is the sum total of the life from each segment of the cutting edge. So due to the presence of multiple segments of cutting edges, this tool is extremely cost effective in comparison to the existing single cutting edge deburring blades/tools.
The present invention is user friendly and can be used in any of the existing handles holding the deburring blades. These handles can usually take either 2.6 mm or 3.17 mm or 6 mm size of blades. The invented blade/tool being of the same size can be used in these handles.
Fig. 2 clearly shows the multiple effective cutting edge segments in the present invention.
Fig. 3 clearly shows the multiple effective cutting edge portions and Guide sections in comparison with the single effective cutting edge portion in the conventional deburring blades/tools as shown in Fig.1. Fig. 4 clearly shows different included angles / geometric shapes between cutting surface of two cutting edge segments
A single included angle is found in the existing deburring blades/tools while the present invention has multiple included angles which may be different from each other and so enables the deburring of different types of material applications from different cutting edge portions of the same blade. This way the present invention is very advantageous.
Although the preferred embodiment as well as the method and use have been specifically described, it should be understood that variations in the preferred embodiment could be achieved by a person skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention. The invention has been described with reference to specific embodiment which is merely illustrative and not intended to limit the scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
