Considering the peculiar needs that characterize hospital stay, people have seen, and see, the innovative constant evolution of the structures of hospital beds for hospitalization which are required to increasingly suit comfort needs for the patient and, as a consequence, the needs for accessibility for the assistance of the patient by the healthcare staff. In this context, among other things, the need to allow that the patient's stay in bed is protected, especially in all the cases in which the patient's disease requires it, has contributed to cause the structures of beds for hospital stay to be provided with suitable perimeter protection devices able to avoid that the movements performed by the patient in bed may cause them an injury or cause them to fall to the ground. For the specific purpose of preventing the movements unconsciously performed by the hospitalized patient from causing them to fall, some solutions of hospital bed have been prearranged in such a way as to comprise some removable or foldable side protection bedrails, said protection bedrails being provided of different shapes and with different kinds of anchorage to the frame of the hospital bed. A traditional solution of a hospitalization bed provided with antifall side protection bedrails includes a bed surface of the type made up of a metal frame supporting a base for a mattress, to the side of which frame are removably hookable some protection bedrails suitably provided with devices able to allow their anchorage to the bed structure. Traditionally, the protection bedrails for hospitalization beds are made up of structures with a metal tubing frame provided with suitable means of hooking to the bed structure, such as to make the bedrail not only suitable to be removed by the operator but also such as to allow the operator to slide it below the bed surface without having to remove it, in order to allow easy intervention on the patient.
Prior art
[0004] Also the known prior art, as in the currently available patent literature, includes some solutions of protection bedrails for a hospital bed.
[0005] Among the solutions found, to give an example we will mention the following:
D1 : no. US201 01 07335 (Kreg Medical) D2: no. US201 1 /0258779 (Derenne et al.)
D3: no. US2006/01 68729 (Weismiller et al.)
D4: no. US2009/0249548 (Hensley et al.)
[0006] D1 synthetically describes a bedrail for a hospital bed in whose preferred embodiment the hospital bed is of the armchair bed type whose structure comprises three articulated portions in which the bedrails are positioned adjacent to the third articulated portion, the bedrails remaining stationary with respect to said third portion during the movement of the latter from the horizontal position to the substantially vertical position. The bedrails are structured in such a way as to be able to be a support for the patient who must lie down or get up from the armchair bed.
[0007] D2 synthetically describes a hospital bed solution whose structure includes, placed in correspondence of at least one side, a protection bedrail placed on at least one side of the bed in which the protection bedrail is movable from a lifted position, to an intermediate position to a lowered position. The side protection bedrails are made suitable to be moved by a first movement device and by a second movement device. In the intermediate position, the protection bedrails can define a space through which the patient can be helped in getting in and out of bed. In the lifted position and in the intermediate position the protection bedrails are arranged in such a way as to define a space between them sufficiently narrow to prevent the patient from accidentally falling out of bed and at the same time sufficiently wide to prevent the patient from being trapped.
[0008] D3 synthetically describes a hospital bed solution in which the bed structure integrates some removable protection bedrails placed on the perimeter of the bed in which the sides of the hospital bed are provided with at least two protection bedrails each of which is provided with a device of anchorage to the bed structure, the removable protection bedrails being anchored to the hospital bed structure by an engagement device of the hook-shaped type.
[0009] D4 synthetically describes a hospital bed provided with protection bedrails, which bed structure comprises an articulated bed surface anchored to a frame. The hospital bed has at least one headboard and one footboard in which the headboard is rotatable with respect to the structure of the bed frame. Furthermore, the hospital bed in addition to the headboard and to the footboard also comprises some side bedrails which can be elongated laterally and are reciprocally rotatable, the bedrails being provided placed at least near the headboard. Said bedrails are articulated to the bed structure by means of an articulated joint that allows the movement from a lowered position next to the bed surface, to a lifted position with respect to the bed surface. Furthermore, the side bedrails are not rotatable with respect to the bed frame during the movement of the latter.
Drawbacks
[001 0] All the known solutions of hospital beds provided with protection bedrails as in the known prior art have, although to a different extent, defects and limits.
[001 1 ] A first drawback common to all the solutions of protection bedrails for a hospital bed as in the mentioned known prior art, according to the applicant, consists of the detected circumstance that, even when they allow for the release of the protection bedrail from the bed structure, they are not provided with an effective safety hooking device able to prevent the accidental release of the protection bedrail possibly caused by the movements involuntarily performed by the bedridden patient.
[001 2] A second drawback common to all the solutions of protection bedrails for a hospital bed as in the mentioned known prior art, according to the applicant, consists of the detected circumstance that none of said solutions of protection bedrails for a hospital bed allows to remove in an easy and safe way the protection bedrail avoiding to require the intervention of specialized staff and avoiding to require the use of specific technical equipment.
[001 3] A further drawback noticeable in all the solutions of protection bedrails for a hospital bed as in the mentioned known prior art, according to the applicant, consists of the detected circumstance that, as they do not lend themselves to be removed easily, they do not allow to carry out a suitable sanitization, this both in the case in which the sanitization of the protection bedrail must occur in the same hospital, but in rooms other than those in which the bed is placed, and - and even more so - when the sanitization of the protection bedrail must be carried out at third parties'.
[001 4] Therefore, there is the need for the companies of the sector to find some optimal solutions to achieve the following set aims.

Practical embodiment of the invention
[0021 ] Referring without limits also to the representations as in Figures from 1 to 1 0, an articulated, foldable protection bedrail (1 ) is described, of the type with a bedrail body and related removable anchor slide, for a hospital bed with a safety hooking device and related hospital bed which in a preferred embodiment comprises a bedrail body ( 1 1 ) to which an anchor slide (4) is associated, constrainable to a corresponding shaped anchor plate (3) with which an anchor articulation joint (2) is provided, engaged to the frame (1 01 ) of the hospital bed ( 1 00). The bedrail body ( 1 1 ) is of the shaped monocoque type, preferably of plastic material and in any case of a material of the type suitable to the purpose being such as to be able to be conveniently and easily sanitized, the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) being essentially made without protrusions or inlets that may be possible receptacles for the accumulation of dust or dirt. The bedrail body (1 1 ), in the described embodiment and preferably, is obtained by moulding by means of the known technique of roto moulding or blow moulding, so that it is internally hollow, being externally shaped in such a way as to be without raised edges and connection zones difficult to reach for sanitization. The structure of the bedrail body (1 1 ) is such as to be provided with shaped openings ( 1 2) and with grip handles (1 3). The bedrail body (1 1 ) is of a shape and size suitable to the destination purpose in such a way as to be suitable to be a containment protection for the hospital bed ( 1 00), providing that for each longitudinal side the hospital bed (1 00) itself is provided with at least two articulated protection bedrails (1 ) placed linearly in sequence, wherein the related bedrail bodies (1 1 ) can be, according to the contingent destination needs, both of an identical size and shape and of a different size and shape to best meet the needs of protection and access to the patient by the healthcare staff. The area of the openings ( 1 2) and the entire shape of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ), too, are such as to conveniently allow to perform the function of suitable containment and protection of the bedridden patient and the consequent function of allowing a suitable access to the healthcare staff. In order to allow the movement of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) and related anchor slide (4), in such a way that it can be placed lifted or lowered with respect to the frame (1 01 ) of the hospital bed ( 1 00), at least one anchor articulation joint (2), for each bedrail body (1 1 ) and related anchor slide (4), is conveniently anchored to the frame (1 01 ) of the hospital bed (1 00). Said anchor articulation joint (2), comprising at least one shaped metal bracket body (21 ), usually fastened in a known way to the frame ( 1 01 ) of the hospital bed ( 100), the anchorage of said bracket body (21 ) being made for example and usually by welding, screwing, riveting or nailing. In the described embodiment as in Figures 5 and 6, the anchor articulation joint (2) is provided with a bracket body (21 ) of bent sheet metal welded or alternatively screwed to the frame ( 1 01 ) of the hospital bed (1 00), particularly being provided that for each side of the hospital bed (1 00) there are as many anchor articulation joints (2) as are the bedrail bodies (1 1 ) to be supported, in the example being provided that the anchor articulation joints (2) and, as a consequence, the bedrail bodies (1 1 ) and the related anchor slides (4) are two in number. In any case, it is provided that preferably and usually the number of the articulated protection bedrails (1 ) is at least such as to equal the number of the articulated sections into which the frame (1 01 ) of the hospital bed (1 00) is divided, in the example of Figure 1 the frame (1 01 ) of the hospital bed (1 00) being divided into two articulated sections in order to allow the adjustment of the patient's position at least between the two conditions of lying position and sitting position.
[0022] Furthermore, the anchor articulation joint (2) comprises, suitably and rotatably hinged to the bracket body (21 ) a first articulation arm (22), central, and, laterally in correspondence of at least one side of the latter, at least one second articulation arm (23). In the described embodiment, in correspondence of the two sides of the first articulation arm (22) is a second articulation arm (23), left, and a third articulation arm (24), right, which are of a suitable size and shape such as to allow in a known way to articulate the movement of the bedrail body (1 1 ) between the extreme positions of complete lifting and complete lowering with such a translation movement so as to allow the bedrail body (1 1 ) and related anchor slide (4) to keep substantially parallel to the vertical plane in the passage between the two positions of complete lifting and of complete lowering. In order to facilitate the movement of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) and related anchor slide (4) between the two extreme positions, of complete lowering and complete lifting, and to allow that said movement can occur with the minimum effort by the operator, the anchor articulation joint (2) is provided with suitable balancing devices (25, 25') of the known type made up of dampers. Both the first articulation arm (22) and the second articulation arm (23) and the third articulation arm (24) in correspondence of the ends not hinged to the bracket body (21 ) are suitably prearranged for the engagement of a hooking pin (26, 27). Furthermore, in the detail of the described embodiment as in, in particular, Figures 7 and 1 0, the first articulation arm (22), in correspondence of the end opposite to that of hinging to the brackets (21 , 21 '), is U-shaped in order to provide two reciprocally parallel protruding bodies (221 , 222) between which the first hooking pin (26) is fastened, in a known way within suitable engagement seats. Furthermore, also the second articulation arm (23) and the third articulation arm (24), in correspondence of the end opposite to that of hinging to the body bracket (21 ), engage in a known way within suitable engagement seats the second hooking pin (27) the latter being orthogonal both to the second articulation arm (23) and to the third articulation arm (24). Both the second articulation arm (23) and the third articulation arm (24) are of identical shape. Within the anchor articulation joint (2), the positioning of the first articulation arm (22) with respect to the second articulation arm (23) and to the third articulation arm (24) is such as to allow that the first hooking pin (26) and the second hooking pin (27) lie on staggered planes, in the example the second hooking pin (27) being placed above and parallel with respect to the first hooking pin (26). The first hooking pin (26) and the second hooking pin (27) further engage in a mobile way a shaped anchor plate (3) which is suitably interposed between the second articulation arm (23) and the third articulation arm (24), hinged to them in correspondence almost of the half of the height of the shaped anchor plate (3), the latter, at the base, being hinged to the protruding bodies (221 , 222) of the first articulation arm (22) in correspondence of two indented seats (31 , 31 ') with which the shaped anchor plate (3) is provided in order to allow its movement with respect to the first articulation arm (22). In this way the shaped anchor plate (3), which is intended to engage the anchor slide (4) of the bedrail body (1 1 ), is allowed to perform the necessary movements able to allow the anchor articulation joint (2) to enable the movement and the positioning of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) in the position considered appropriate on the basis of the contingent needs between a condition of maximum lowering or of maximum lifting. Furthermore, in the detail of the described embodiment as in, in particular, Figures 7 and 1 0 the shaped anchor plate (3) is such as to be like a shaped semi-monocoque which in correspondence of its internal part comprises, near the upper part, two vertical walls (32, 32'), with a guiding function, symmetrical and parallel to each other which are orthogonal and protruding with respect to the back face (33) of the shaped anchor plate (3).
[0023] Furthermore, the shaped anchor plate (3) in correspondence of the right and left sides of the back face (33) comprises a right shaped guiding section (34) and a left shaped guiding section (34') respectively, symmetrical to each other, each of which, in correspondence of their upper end, incorporates a clamping tongue (35, 35') and a shaped abutment wall (38, 38') both of identical shape being the upper end of the right shaped guiding section (34) and of the left shaped guiding section (34') and, consequently, the two shaped abutment walls (38, 38') and the two clamping tongues (35, 35') spaced from each other. The shaped anchor plate (3), moreover, is provided with a suitable embedded seat (36) open in correspondence of its lower part and positioned in such a way as to be placed in correspondence of the area facing the first hooking pin (26) between the protruding bodies (221 , 222) of the first articulation arm (22) when the shaped anchor plate (3) is mounted on the anchor articulation joint (2). The embedded seat (36) is also provided with a through-hole (37) and suitably extends in height, in the example of Figure 7, until reaching the proximity of the zone facing the second hooking pin (27).
[0024] Accordingly shaped for the engagement to the first hooking pin (26) and to the second hooking pin (27) as well as to the clamping tongues (35, 35'), to the shaped abutment walls (38, 38') and to the vertical walls (32, 32') of the shaped anchor plate (3), is an anchor slide (4), Figure 6 and Figure 8, which is provided anchored to the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) within an obtained embedded seat (1 4) preferably by means of threaded fastening means, such as some screws (200). Said embedded seat ( 14) is suitable to conveniently house also the shaped anchor plate (3) in the perimeter part of the latter as in the right shaped guiding section (34) and the left shaped guiding section (34'). As shown in Figure 8, the anchor slide (4) is structured in such a way as to comprise engageable constraint means made up of hooking protruding bodies (41 , 42, 43) suitable to engage the shaped anchor plate (3) in correspondence of the provided hooking pins (26, 27). Furthermore, in the detail of the described embodiment, the anchor slide (4) comprises a first protruding hooking body (41 ), placed almost in the middle in correspondence of the lower part of the anchor slide (4), in such a way that the position and shape of the latter allow its insertion into the embedded seat (36) of the shaped anchor plate (3) and the engagement to the first hooking pin (26) once the anchor slide (4) has been constrained to the shaped anchor plate (3). Furthermore, the anchor slide (4) comprises a second protruding hooking body (42) and a third protruding hooking body
(43) both aligned and lying on the same plane, placed in such a way that their position and shape, once the anchor slide (4) has been constrained to the shaped anchor plate (3), allow their engagement to the second hooking pin (27), the anchor slide (4), in the example of Figure 8, being shaped in such a way as to provide that below the second protruding hooking body (42) and third protruding hooking body (43), suitably spaced from their lower end, is a horizontal wall (48) which facilitates the positioning of the anchor slide (4) on the shaped anchor plate (3) acting as a guide for the second hooking pin (27). The anchor slide (4), again for the purpose of allowing it to be hooked to the shaped anchor plate (3) is shaped in such a way as to realize a guiding rib (44), vertical for two vertical walls (32, 32'), placed above the second protruding hooking body (42) and the third protruding hooking body (43), in an almost intermediate position with respect to them, in correspondence of the upper end of which guiding rib
(44) the anchor slide (4) comprises an engagement body (45) suitably shaped to join the upper ends of the right shaped guiding section (34) and of the left shaped guiding section (34') and the shaped abutment walls (38, 38') of the shaped anchor plate (3) the engagement body (45) being suitably provided with engagement seats (46) suitable to house and engage the clamping tongues (35, 35') of the shaped anchor plate (3) once the anchor slide (4) has been constrained to the shaped anchor plate (3). Furthermore, the anchor slide (4) in correspondence of the first protruding hooking body (41 ) is provided with a through-seat (47) through which is intended to pass slidingly the locking body (52) of the mobile body (51 ) of a safety hooking device (5), held in a mobile way within a suitable holding seat (49) with which the anchor slide (4) is provided, the safety hooking device (5) being in this way interposed between the anchor slide (4) and the bedrail body ( 1 1 ). The locking body (52) of the safety hooking device (5) is intended to engage the through-hole (37) of the shaped anchor plate (3) when the latter is constrained to the anchor slide (4) in order to prevent the release of the shaped anchor plate (3) and consequently of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) without a voluntary intervention by an operator who deactivates the safety hooking device (5) forcing the mobile body (51 ) to withdraw, through the action on the locking body (52).
[0025] More in detail, as particularly shown in Figure 8, the safety hooking device (5) comprises a retractable mobile body (51 ), cylindrical in the described example, which, in correspondence of the head end, is provided with a locking body (52) suitable to be operated by the user. The provided locking body (52), which, too, in the example of Figure 8 is of cylindrical shape, has a smaller diameter than the diameter of the mobile body (51 ) to which it refers in such a way that the head of the mobile body (51 ) in the area surrounding the locking body (52) realizes an abutment wall (53) intended for the contact with the abutment bottom of the holding seat (49) of the anchor slide (4) that houses the mobile body (51 ) of the safety hooking device (5). Said holding seat (49) of the mobile body (51 ) of the safety hooking device (5) is placed in the back part of the anchor slide (4) in correspondence of the through-seat (47). In order to allow the correct operation of the safety hooking device (5), the mobile body (51 ) is forced to the engagement position, in which the locking body (52) is protruding from the through-seat (47) of the anchor slide (4), by an elastic contrast means (54) interposed between the mobile body (51 ) and the wall of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) in which the elastic contrast means (54) is held within an axial seat (55) with which the mobile body (51 ) is provided. In the example said elastic contrast means (54) is a helical spring. Both the sizes of the mobile body (51 ) and those of the elastic contrast means (54) are such as to allow the mobile body (51 ) to be able to be moved by the user in opposition to the elastic contrast means (54) so that the backward stroke allowed to the mobile body (51 ) is such as to allow the release of the locking body (52) from the through-hole (37) of the shaped anchor plate
(3) for the purpose of allowing the release of the anchor slide (4) and, as a consequence, the removal of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) and related anchor slide
(4) . Furthermore, for the purpose of preventing that the activation of the safety hooking device (5) may occur inappropriately, the release of the mobile body (51 ) cannot be made by means of the direct action of the operator's hand on it, but only through the introduction of a suitable pushing device through the through-hole (37) of the shaped anchor plate (3), to this purpose the locking body (52) of the mobile body (51 ) in the engagement position being not protruding from the through-hole (37). More in detail, the diameter of the through-hole (37) of the shaped anchor plate (3) and, as a consequence, the diameter of the locking body (52) are such as to be preferably smaller than 1 5 mm and, however, such as to prevent the introduction of the nail phalanx of a finger, the through-hole (37) of the shaped anchor plate (3) being of such a diameter as to allow the introduction of a common pencil or pen or objects of a similar calibre.
[0026] Operatively, the constraint of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) and related anchor slide (4) to the shaped anchor plate (3) of the anchor articulation joint (2) occurs by means of the positioning of the bedrail body (1 1 ) so that the anchor slide (4) is suitably positioned by the operator in order to be able to be constrained to the shaped anchor plate (3) of the anchor articulation joint (2) in such a way that the first protruding hooking body (41 ), the second protruding hooking body (42), the third protruding hooking body (43), the guiding rib (44) and the engagement seats (46) of the engagement body (45) of the anchor slide (4) are placed in such a position as to fit for the constraint with, respectively: the embedded seat (36) and the first hooking pin (26), the second hooking pin (27), the vertical walls (32, 32'), the shaped abutment walls (38, 38') and the clamping tongues (35, 35') of the shaped anchor plate (3). Once the bedrail body (1 1 ) has been positioned in the described way, in order to be able to proceed with the anchorage of the latter the user must move it performing a first translation movement along the axis orthogonal to the anchor slide (4) and to the shaped anchor plate (3) in order to conveniently bring them in contact with each other to successively perform a movement of lowering of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ) that constrains the anchor slide (4) to the shaped anchor plate (3) allowing the engagement, respectively: of the first protruding hooking body (41 ) on the first hooking pin (26); of the second protruding hooking body (42) and of the third protruding hooking body (43) on the second hooking pin (27), as well as of the clamping tongues (35, 35') on the respective engagement seats (46) of the engagement body (45) and of the shaped abutment walls (38, 38') on the engagement body (45) in correspondence of the engagement seats (46) of the anchor slide (4). In this way, following the constraint of the anchor slide (4) on the shaped anchor plate (3), the locking body (52) of the mobile body (51 ) of the safety hooking device (5) is enabled to engage the through-hole (37) of the shaped anchor plate (3), the locking body (52) being pushed by the action of the elastic contrast means (54) to be inserted into the through-hole (37) once the movement of lowering of the bedrail body (1 1 ) has enabled the locking body (52) of the mobile body (51 ) to coincide with the through-hole (37) of the embedded seat (36) of the shaped anchor plate (3). In order to proceed to the release of the bedrail body ( 1 1 ), the operator by means of the introduction into the through-hole (37) of an object of a suitable calibre, such as the non-pointed end of a pencil or a pen, acting on the locking body (52), draws back the mobile body (51 ) of the safety hooking device (5) in this way releasing the locking body from the through-hole (37) of the shaped anchor plate (3) in such a way as to allow the release of the anchor slide (4) from the shaped anchor plate (3) and consequently the removal of the whole bedrail body (1 1 ) and related anchor slide (4) operating in such a way as to perform the opposite movements with respect to those that have enabled their constraint to the shaped anchor plate (3) of the anchor articulation joint (2). In order to facilitate the movements of constraint and release of the bedrail body (11), in the described embodiment and preferably, it is provided that the bedrail body (11) in correspondence of the embedded seat (14) is provided with a suitable grip slit (15) of such a shape and size as to allow the operator to grip the bedrail body (11) in a convenient position.
[0027] In this way, as shown in Figure 1, there is the realization of a hospital bed (100) comprising a frame (101) of the type articulated in sections, in the example in two articulated sections, in order to allow the adjustment of the patient's position at least between the two conditions of lying position and sitting position, wherein a headboard (102) and a footboard (103) are anchored to the frame (101). Furthermore, in the described embodiment, the frame (101) of the hospital bed (100) supports a bed base surface made up of a set of removable mattress supporting covers (104) of injection moulded plastic material with reinforcing ribs (105) and provided with ventilation holes (106). In correspondence of each of the sides, anchored to the frame (101) of the hospital bed (100) are on each side two articulated protection bedrails (1) according to the present invention.
