Abstract

The present invention proposes a method for automatically driving the electric motor of a bicycle (1), the method being intended to facilitate pausing, stopping and starting in the upward direction on a slope (2) for the user. The anti-rollback function of the invention is activated automatically if the bicycle is on a slope or if a gradient-induced rolling back of the bicycle (1) is detected. In this case the electric motor is driven and controlled in such a manner that the downhill force (FH) is compensated by the propulsive force (FDrive) of the motor to the largest possible extent, so that the electric bicycle (1) comes to a stop, i.e. the velocity (v) of the electric bicycle is equal to zero.
