Definitions
- the present invention relates to a badge holder according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Known generic ID card holders serve to receive a memory card, such as a company ID card, which serves as an ID card, so that a card holder can carry the ID card visibly with him.
- a memory card such as a company ID card, which serves as an ID card
- the cardholder can attach the badge holder to his clothing by means of a clip or by means of a band.
- a photo of the employee is printed on such company IDs.
- additional optical identification elements such as a bar code, may be provided in order to make information about the cardholder optically readable.
- modern ID cards are designed as a memory card. This makes it possible, for example, that access to company buildings can be controlled electronically without contact or contact-based.
- the ID card holder can authenticate by means of the card when logging on to a PC or laptop by means of the memory card.
- the card holder must remove the card from the badge holder and insert it into a special card reader, for example, on the PC.
- USB flash drives In addition to such digital ID cards, companies are increasingly using mobile storage solutions in the form of memory sticks (USB flash drives), for example.
- memory sticks have a USB interface for mass storage, which allow access to the memory in the stick, for example by means of the USB interface from the PC.
- the memory contents can be encrypted and in order to access the data, the user must authenticate himself to the storage medium in this case. Only then can the user access the data so that user or corporate data is protected from unauthorized access.
- Similar badges are also issued by banks as customer cards. Bank customers can use this to carry out a wide range of transactions, such as withdrawing money from ATMs or online banking. In some cases, such cards are also equipped with an interface for contactless data exchange to enable cashless payments without inserting the card into a card reader.
- a badge holder includes a storage medium and a card reader with associated first contacts which is designed so that it can read the inserted into the badge holder memory card and / or write data in this. Furthermore, the ID card holder includes an interface connected to the card reader, which is designed so that it can be built from the outside a wired and / or wireless connection for data exchange with the memory card.
- the advantage of a badge holder according to the invention is, in particular, that in addition to the function of receiving a memory card for visible carrying by a card holder, the badge holder by means of the storage medium makes the additional issuing and driving of memory sticks unnecessary. Furthermore, the ID card holder can read data from the inserted memory card via the card reader without having to remove the memory card from the ID card holder.
- the invention also offers the possibility that it can be realized that the storage medium of the ID card holder can only be accessed if an authentication has been carried out via an inserted memory card serving as an ID card. Thus, data on the storage medium of the ID holder can be protected against unauthorized access.
- the memory card is a smart card (often referred to as a "smart card” or "Integrated Circuit Card, ICC”).
- the chip card can be designed as a memory chip card, that is, it consists only of a memory that can be read or written.
- the chip card can also be executed as a processor chip card, so have a microprocessor, via which one can access the stored data.
- the card reader of the ID card holder is then designed so that he can read the corresponding chip card.
- the optical identification elements applied to the memory card serving as a badge can preferably be a photo of the owner of the memory card or a barcode.
- the interface is a USB interface.
- a corresponding badge holder via the widely used USB interface standard can record a wired connection, for example, with a PC or laptop.
- emgef memory card ie, for example, company card.
- an antenna is provided in the ID card holder, which serves to establish a wireless connection.
- this may be an antenna for near-field communication.
- the storage medium of the ID card holder can be a flash memory with associated flash controller.
- Flash memories are digital memory chips based on flash EEPROM technology.
- an application can be stored on the flash controller or an application processor likewise assigned to the flash memory, by means of which data is encrypted and decrypted in the flash memory can be. This ensures that data can be protected against unauthorized use (reading or overwriting).
- an access protection on the flash memory is provided so that access to its data is only possible if the badge holder is in communication with a particular memory card.
- This has the advantage that only a combination of a specific badge holder with a particular memory card, so for example with a specific employee card allows access to the data in the flash memory.
- it can further be provided that access to flash memory is only possible if the badge holder continues to communicate with an external device via its interface, and a user authenticates via the external device, in particular by entering a PIN (personal identification number).
- PIN personal identification number
- the badge holder itself has a smart card, which is firmly connected to the badge holder, or integrated into it.
- a secure protocol communication between the ID card holder and the memory card connected to it can be made possible.
- This offers the advantage that even such as ID card serving memory cards can be used in which to establish a communication a previous authentication is necessary (for example, identity cards or health cards).
- Such authentication can be realized, for example, by a particular secret method or key, or both.
- the communication between the chip and memory card can be authenticated, encrypted or both, which serves for data protection and abuse prevention.
- a chip card is also permanently connected to the ID card holder, and by means of this chip card, applications can be realized independently of the memory card serving as a card. For example In this way, data can be stored on this chip card which can also be accessed without the memory card inserted in the passport holder.
- the ID card holder is adapted to receive a memory card in ID-1 format and preferably has external dimensions in a range of 85.6mm x 53.98mm to 110mm x 70mm.
- ID-1 formats which are widely used as ID cards, can be recorded by the ID card holder.
- the ID card holder is designed such that the memory card can be inserted into it.
- the means which are provided to secure the memory card against unintentional release of the ID card holder preferably have a latching nose, which enters upon releasing the memory card in releasably locking engagement.
- the ID card holder can be dimensioned so that the friction between the memory card and the ID card holder prevents unintentional release of the memory holder from the ID card holder.
- means are provided on the badge holder for making it visibly portable for a badge holder, such as eyelets or the like for securing a clip for attachment to the garment or collar.
- Fig. 1 shows a badge holder according to the invention with an inserted as a card serving memory card.
- an inventive badge holder 10 is shown schematically.
- the badge holder 10 serving as an ID memory card 12 is inserted.
- the badge holder 10 has a slot (not shown in detail), through which the memory card 12 can be inserted from the right into the ID card holder.
- a recess 14 is provided, so that a user of the ID card holder through the recess 14 with a finger the memory card 12 from the ID holder 10 can push out again.
- the recess 14 is positioned so that contacts 16 of the memory card 12 can be contacted from the outside even when the memory card 12 is inserted into the badge holder 10.
- the contacts 16 are preferably arranged according to an ISO standard for memory cards (ISO 7816) contacts.
- optical identification features 18 are further printed, such as the name and a portrait photo of the card holder, and a barcode.
- the badge holder 10 is either designed to be transparent or it has corresponding recesses in the region of the optical identification elements 18, so that these optical identification elements 18 are visually recognizable from the outside, ie optically readable, when the memory card 12 is inserted into the badge holder 10.
- means 20 are provided which interlock with the memory card 12 when the memory card 12 is inserted into the badge holder 10.
- Such means 20 may include, for example, a latch that lock the memory card when completely inserting the memory card in the badge holder 10 and can be released to remove the memory card from the badge holder by finger pressure again.
- the badge holder 10 of Figure 1 further includes a mass storage in the form of a flash memory 22 with associated flash controller 24. This ensures that the badge holder 10 not only serves to accommodate the serving as a badge memory card 12, but also the user functionality a mass storage device.
