Abstract
Disclosed is a method for operating a power plant having a steam generator that is fired with solid fossil fuels, for example hard coal or brown coal. The method comprises coupling heat out of the flue gas from the steam generator downstream, in the flow direction of the flue gas, of a device for combustion air pre-heating, wherein the heat coupled out from the flue gas stream is used to dry brown coal. The dry brown coal obtained is preferably extracted from the method as a product and a proportion thereof of less than 50% is energetically converted in the relevant steam generator.
