図15(B)には、図15(A)の線A-A’に沿ったLEDの発光輝度4、5と、そのLEDの発光により得られるバックライトの輝度分布6と、液晶パネルの出力階調値7が示されている。ローカルディミングでは、各分割領域3のLEDの発光輝度4、5は、各分割領域3に対応する各映像領域の階調値に応じて決定される。図15(B)では、各映像領域の階調値として、各映像領域に含まれる画素の階調値の最大値が用いられている。
この例では、グレーのパターン1に完全に含まれる分割領域3のLEDの発光輝度4は、白のパターン2に完全に、あるいは、一部含まれる分割領域3のLEDの発光輝度5よりも小さい発光輝度に決定される。液晶パネルの出力階調値7は、LEDの発光により得られるバックライトの輝度分布6に基づいて、最終的に表示される映像の画質がもとの映像の画質と等価になるように決定される。
しかし、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4と、白のパターン2に対応するLEDの発光輝度5の差が大きい場合、映像を斜めから見ると、図15(C)に示すように、白のパターン2の周りに光漏れによりハロが発生することがある。このようなハロの発生を抑制するため、映像の暗部を照明するLEDの輝度を上昇させる技術がある(特許文献1を参照)。
図16は、この従来技術について説明する図である。図16(A)は、図15(A)と同じ図である。この従来技術では、図16(B)に示すように、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4を大きくすることにより、その発光輝度4と、白のパターン2に対応するLEDの発光輝度5の差を小さくする。これにより、図16(C)に示すように、白のパターン2の周りにハロが発生することを抑制する。
しかしながら、黒のパターンを含む映像に対して特許文献1の従来技術を適用することとすると、黒のパターンの映像領域に対応する分割領域において、LEDの発光輝度が大きくなるため、黒浮きが発生する可能性があった。
図17は、黒のパターンを含む映像の一例を示す図である。図17(A)に示すように、この映像には、ほぼ一様なグレーのパターン1の中に、白のパターン2が含まれており、また、黒のパターン8も含まれている。
特許文献1の従来技術を用いないローカルディミングでは、図17(B)に示すように、グレーのパターン1に完全に含まれる分割領域3のLEDの発光輝度4は、白のパターン2に完全に、あるいは、一部含まれる分割領域3のLEDの発光輝度5よりも小さい発光輝度に決定される。また、黒のパターン8に完全に含まれる分割領域3のLEDの発光輝度は、ほぼ0となる。
この場合、黒のパターン8における黒浮きは極めて少ない。しかし、図15の例と同様に、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4と、白のパターン2に対応するLEDの発光輝度5の差が大きい場合、映像を斜めから見ると、図17(C)に示すように、白のパターン2の周りにハロが発生することがある。
図18は、黒のパターンを含む映像に対する特許文献1の従来技術の適用について説明する図である。図18(A)は、図17(A)と同じ図である。特許文献1の従来技術では、図18(B)に示すように、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4だけでなく、黒のパターン8に対応するLEDの発光輝度9も一律に増加させるため、白のパターン2の周りにおけるハロの発生は抑制できるが、黒のパターン8における黒浮きが顕著になる可能性がある。
本発明は、上記課題に鑑み、ハロの発生だけでなく、黒浮きも効果的に抑制することができる映像表示装置を提供することを目的とする。
上記課題を解決する為に、本発明の第1の技術手段は、映像信号に応じた映像を表示する表示パネルと、該表示パネルを照明する光源としてLEDを使用したバックライトとを有し、該バックライトを複数の領域に分割して得られる領域ごとに、前記LEDの発光輝度を、前記分割して得られた各領域に対応する映像領域の階調値と前記LEDの発光輝度との間の所定の関係に基づいて制御する映像表示装置であって、前記映像の階調値が所定の条件を満たす場合に、前記映像領域の階調値の、前記所定の条件に基づいて決定される第1の範囲における前記LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲が、前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲よりも小さくなるよう該LEDの発光輝度を調整する第1の輝度調整部と、前記第1の範囲よりも値が小さい第2の範囲において、前記第1の輝度調整部により調整された前記LEDの発光輝度の下限値よりも小さい発光輝度になるよう該LEDの発光輝度を調整する第2の輝度調整部と、を備えることを特徴とする。
本発明の第2の技術手段は、第1の技術手段において、前記所定の条件は、前記映像の階調値の度数分布を生成し、該映像の階調値が所定の階調値よりも大きい階調範囲において度数が大きい上位2つの階調値を抽出した場合に、前記階調範囲における階調値の度数の合計に対する前記上位2つの階調値の度数の合計の割合が、所定の割合よりも大きい条件であることを特徴とする。
本発明の第3の技術手段は、第2の技術手段において、前記所定の割合は、前記映像の階調値が前記所定の条件を満たしていない状態で、該映像の階調値が該所定の条件を満たすか否かを判定する場合と、前記映像の階調値が前記所定の条件を満たしている状態で、該映像の階調値が該所定の条件を満たすか否かを判定する場合とで、異なる割合に設定されることを特徴とする。
本発明の第4の技術手段は、第1~第3のいずれかの技術手段において、前記第1の輝度調整部は、複数のフレームの前記映像の階調値が、所定のフレーム数以上連続して前記所定の条件を満たす場合に、前記LEDの発光輝度を調整することを特徴とする。
本発明の第5の技術手段は、第1~第4のいずれかの技術手段において、前記第1の輝度調整部は、前記第1の範囲内における前記LEDの発光輝度を、該第1の範囲の上限値において前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度よりも小さい発光輝度に調整することを特徴とする。
本発明の第6の技術手段は、第1~第4のいずれかの技術手段において、前記第1の輝度調整部は、前記第1の範囲内における前記LEDの発光輝度を、該第1の範囲の上限値において前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度に調整することを特徴とする。
本発明の第7の技術手段は、第1~第6のいずれかの技術手段において、前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記映像信号において所定の階調値よりも小さい階調値となる画素数の全画素数に対する割合が所定の割合よりも大きいことを検出した場合に、前記第2の範囲において、前記LEDの発光輝度を該検出前の発光輝度よりも小さくなるよう調整することを特徴とする。
本発明の第8の技術手段は、第1~第7のいずれかの技術手段において、前記映像表示装置の周囲照度を検出する照度検出部をさらに備え、前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記周囲照度が所定の値よりも小さいことが検出された場合に、前記第2の範囲において、前記LEDの発光輝度を該検出前の発光輝度よりも小さくなるよう調整することを特徴とする。
本発明の第9の技術手段は、第1~第8のいずれかの技術手段において、前記第1の輝度調整部は、映像表示モードの指定を受け付けた場合に、前記映像領域の階調値の第1の範囲における前記LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲が、前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲よりも小さくなるよう、前記映像表示モードの種類に応じて予め定められた関係を用いて該LEDの発光輝度を調整し、前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記第2の範囲において、前記第1の輝度調整部により調整された前記LEDの発光輝度の下限値よりも小さい発光輝度になるよう、前記映像表示モードの種類に応じて予め定められた関係を用いて該LEDの発光輝度を調整することを特徴とする。
本発明の第10の技術手段は、第1~第9のいずれかの技術手段において、前記第1の輝度調整部および/または前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記LEDの発光輝度を調整する場合に、該調整前の発光輝度から該調整後の発光輝度への変更を段階的に行うことを特徴とする。
本発明の第11の技術手段は、第1~第10のいずれかの技術手段において、前記第1の輝度調整部は、第1の範囲よりも値が大きい第3の範囲において、前記LEDの発光輝度を、前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度よりも小さい発光輝度となるよう調整することを特徴とする。
本発明の第12の技術手段は、第11の技術手段において、前記第3の範囲における前記LEDの発光輝度の調整量は、前記第1の範囲の下限値における前記LEDの発光輝度の調整量、前記第1の範囲の下限値に対応する前記映像の階調値の度数、前記第1の範囲の上限値に対応する前記映像の階調値の度数に基づいて決定されることを特徴とする。
本発明の映像表示装置は、映像信号に応じた映像を表示する表示パネルと、表示パネルを照明する光源としてLEDを使用したバックライトとを有し、バックライトを複数の領域に分割して得られる領域ごとに、LEDの発光輝度を、分割して得られた各領域に対応する映像領域の階調値とLEDの発光輝度との間の所定の関係に基づいて制御する。そして、映像の階調値が所定の条件を満たす場合に、映像領域の階調値の第1の範囲におけるLEDの発光輝度の変動範囲が、上記所定の関係に基づいて決定されるLEDの発光輝度の変動範囲よりも小さくなるようLEDの発光輝度を調整し、第1の範囲よりも値が小さい第2の範囲において、上記調整されたLEDの発光輝度の下限値よりも小さい発光輝度になるようLEDの発光輝度を調整することとしたので、ハロの発生だけでなく、低階調表示部における黒浮きも効果的に抑制することができる。
以下、本発明の実施形態について図面を参照して詳細に説明する。図1は、本発明に係る映像表示装置の要部の構成例について説明する図である。この映像表示装置は、入力映像信号に画像処理を行って、映像表示する構成を有するものであり、テレビジョン装置等に適用可能なものである。
ハロ判定部10は、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かを判定する。図2は、この判定方法の一例について説明する図である。図2には、入力映像にほぼ一様なグレーのパターン1と、白のパターン2と、黒のパターン3が含まれている場合が示されている。
例えば、ハロ判定部10は、入力映像信号の階調値の度数分布を生成し、入力映像信号の階調値が所定の階調値20よりも大きい範囲において、度数が大きい上位2つの階調値21、22を抽出する。そして、ハロ判定部10は、上記範囲における階調値の度数の合計を算出し、その合計に対する2つの階調値21、22の度数の合計の割合が所定の割合以上である場合に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定する。また、ハロ判定部10は、上記合計の割合が所定の割合未満である場合に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定する。
このように、図2の例では、ハロ判定部10は、度数分布が低階調領域以外で2極化していることをもって、ハロが発生しやすい映像であるとの判定を行っている。これにより、図2に示すような、黒のパターン3以外の部分で、ほぼ一様なグレーのパターン1の中に、グレーのパターン1とは輝度が大きく異なる白のパターン2が含まれている映像を検出でき、映像がハロの発生しやすいものか否かを容易かつ効果的に判定できる。
ここで、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かの判定を行うタイミングは、さまざまなものが考えられる。例えば、ハロ判定部10は、上記判定をフレーム毎に行ってもよいし、シーンチェンジを検出し、シーンチェンジを検出したタイミングで行うこととしてもよい。
補正レベル算出部11は、ハロ判定部10により入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合に、LEDの発光輝度の補正レベルを算出する。図3は、LEDの発光輝度の補正レベル算出方法について説明する図である。
図3の縦軸は、LEDの発光輝度値であり、横軸は入力映像の階調値である。なお、縦軸、および、横軸はそれぞれ、LEDの最大発光輝度値、および、入力映像の最大階調値を用いて正規化されている。
ハロ判定部10により入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定された場合、図3の一点鎖線のグラフに基づいてローカルディミングが行われる。具体的には、ローカルディミングでは、バックライトが複数の領域に分割され、各分割領域に対応する映像領域の階調値が検出される。ここで、映像領域の階調値としては、その映像領域に含まれる各画素の階調値の最大値や平均値が用いられる。そして、その映像領域の階調値を入力映像階調値として、図3の一点鎖線のグラフにより示される関係から、各分割領域におけるLEDの発光輝度が決定される。
ハロ判定部10により入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合、以下に説明するように、LEDの発光輝度を決定するために用いられるグラフが、図3の一点鎖線のグラフから実線のグラフに切り替えられ、実線のグラフを用いて各分割領域におけるLEDの発光輝度が決定される。なお、図3の例では、一点鎖線の曲線グラフは、2.2のガンマ特性に基づいて設定されているが、LEDの発光輝度値と入力映像階調値との間の関係は直線グラフであってもよく、入力映像階調の定義にしたがって、つまり入力映像階調が表現する輝度が算出されるように一点鎖線のグラフを定める。
補正レベル算出部11は、図3の一点鎖線を補正した補正レベルを、図3の実線のグラフのように設定する。ここで、図3の実線のグラフでは、入力映像階調値A、B’間の範囲において、直線C’D’に基づいて決定されるLEDの発光輝度の変動範囲(図3の例では、変動範囲は0)が、一点鎖線の曲線に基づいて決定されるLEDの発光輝度の変動範囲(入力映像階調値B’に対応するLED発光輝度値と入力映像階調値Aに対応するLED発光輝度値の差)よりも小さくなるよう設定されている。これにより、入力映像にハロが発生することを効果的に抑制することができる。
また、入力映像階調値0、A間の範囲においては、直線OCに基づいて決定されるLEDの発光輝度値は、直線C’D’に基づいて決定されるLEDの発光輝度の下限値(図3の例では、入力映像階調値Aに対応するLED発光輝度値)よりも小さい発光輝度になるよう設定されている。
すなわち、入力映像階調値0、A間におけるLEDの発光輝度値は、特許文献1の従来技術における発光輝度値のレベル(図3において従来手法として示されているレベル)よりも小さくなっているので、入力映像の低階調領域において、黒浮きを効果的に抑制することができる。
ここで、入力映像階調値A、B’間の範囲が、特許請求の範囲における第1の範囲に対応し、入力映像階調値0、A間の範囲が、特許請求の範囲における第2の範囲に対応する。なお、後に説明するように、LEDの発光輝度値を調整する上限として、入力映像階調値B’の代わりに、入力映像階調値Bを用いることとしてもよいが、この場合、入力映像階調値A、B間の範囲が、特許請求の範囲における第1の範囲に対応することになる。
補正レベル算出部11は、この入力映像階調値A、B’を、例えば、以下のようにして決定する。図4は、図3における入力映像階調値A、B’の決定方法について説明する図である。なお、図4では、LEDの発光輝度値と入力映像階調値との間の関係が直線グラフで表されているが、図3の一点鎖線で表される曲線グラフの場合も同様にして入力映像階調値A、B’を決定することができる。
図2を用いて説明したように、ハロ判定部10は、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かを判定する場合に、入力映像の階調値の度数分布を生成し、入力映像の階調値が所定の階調値20よりも大きい範囲において、度数が大きい上位2つの階調値21、22を抽出する。
補正レベル算出部11は、ハロ判定部10により、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合に、入力映像階調値A、Bを、2つの階調値21、22の値に設定する。さらに、補正レベル算出部11は、LEDの発光による電力消費量を低減させるため、入力映像階調値Bを入力映像階調値B’に修正する。ここで、入力映像階調値Bをどの程度減少させるかは、予め実験等を行うことにより決定される。
なお、ハロ判定部10により、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定された場合、補正レベル算出部11は、LEDの発光輝度の補正レベルの算出を行わないようにするため、例えば、入力映像階調値A、B’として負の値を設定したり、B’=Aとしたり、若しくは、検出/未検出という情報をつぎに説明するバックライト輝度調整部12に出力したりする。
図1の説明に戻ると、バックライト輝度調整部12は、LEDの発光輝度を調整する。具体的には、バックライト輝度調整部12は、バックライトを複数の領域に分割し、各分割領域に対応する入力映像の映像領域の階調値を検出する。例えば、バックライト輝度調整部12は、その映像領域に含まれる各画素の階調値の最大値や平均値を、その映像領域の階調値として検出する。
そして、バックライト輝度調整部12は、補正レベル算出部11から入力映像階調値A、B’の情報を取得する。この入力映像階調値A、B’は、補正レベル算出部11により、例えば、フレーム毎に、あるいは、シーンチェンジが検出されたタイミングで算出されるものである。
入力映像階調値A、B’が負の値であるなど、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定された場合、バックライト輝度調整部12は、図3の一点鎖線のグラフにより示される関係に従って、フレーム毎に、各映像領域の階調値に対応する分割領域におけるLEDの発光輝度値を決定する。
入力映像階調値A、B’が負の値でないなど、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合、バックライト輝度調整部12は、図3の実線のグラフにより示される関係に従って、フレーム毎に、各映像領域の階調値に対応する分割領域におけるLEDの発光輝度値を決定する。
具体的には、バックライト輝度調整部12の第1の輝度調整部12aは、入力映像階調値A、B’間の階調値を有する映像領域に対応する分割領域のLEDの発光輝度値を、直線C’D’により示される関係に従い、一定値(入力映像階調値B’に対応するLEDの発光輝度値)に決定する。
また、第2の輝度調整部12bは、入力映像階調値0、A間の階調値を有する映像領域に対応する分割領域のLEDの発光輝度値を、直線OC’の関係に従い、入力映像階調値B’に対応するLEDの発光輝度値と0の間の値に決定する。
ここで、バックライト輝度調整部12は、図3の一点鎖線のグラフ、および、実線のグラフを表す式を保持し、入力映像階調値に対応するLEDの発光輝度値を、その式を用いて算出する。あるいは、バックライト輝度調整部12は、図3の一点鎖線のグラフ、および、実線のグラフを数値で表すテーブルを保持し、そのテーブルを参照して、入力映像階調値に対応するLEDの発光輝度値を決定することとしてもよい。
図1の説明に戻ると、バックライト制御部13は、バックライト14のLEDを制御し、バックライト輝度調整部12により決定された各分割領域のLEDの発光輝度値でLEDを発光させる。バックライト14は、液晶パネル17を照明する光源としてLEDを使用するバックライトである。
液晶階調調整部15は、バックライト輝度調整部12により決定された各分割領域のLEDの発光輝度値の情報を取得し、また、入力映像信号を取得し、最終的に得られる映像の画質が入力映像の画質と等価になるように液晶パネルの出力階調値を決定する。
液晶制御部16は、液晶パネル17を制御し、液晶階調調整部15により決定された出力階調値で液晶パネル17に液晶表示を行わせる。液晶パネル17は、入力映像信号に応じた映像を表示する液晶パネルである。なお、バックライト制御部13と液晶制御部16はそれぞれ、バックライト14の発光と液晶パネル17の表示が同期するようにバックライト14と液晶パネル17を制御する。
図5は、黒のパターンを含む映像に対する本発明の適用について説明する図である。図5(A)は、図17(A)と同じ図である。本発明では、図5(B)に示すように、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4を、図17(B)の場合よりも増加させるが、黒のパターン8に対応するLEDの発光輝度は増加させない。
図18(B)の場合、黒のパターン8に対応するLEDの発光輝度も増加させるため、黒浮きが顕著となる可能性があったが、本発明では、黒のパターン8に対応するLEDの発光輝度を増加させないため、黒浮きを抑制できるとともに、図5(C)に示すように、白のパターン2の周りのハロの発生も抑制することができる。
さて、これまで映像表示装置の実施形態の説明を行ったが、本発明は上述した実施形態に限定されず、本発明の要旨を逸脱しない範囲内で各種の変形、修正が可能である。
例えば、上記実施形態では、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合、図3の実線のグラフで示される関係を用いて、LED発光輝度値を決定することとしたが、LED発光輝度値を決定するためのグラフは図3に示されるものに限定されるものではない。図6は、LED発光輝度値の決定に用いられる各種のグラフを示す図である。
図6(A)では、図4で説明した入力映像階調値A、Bが用いられ、入力映像階調値A、B間の階調値を有する映像領域に対応する分割領域のLEDの発光輝度値が、直線CDの関係に従い、一定値(入力映像階調値Bに対応するLEDの発光輝度値)に決定される。
また、入力映像階調値0、A間の階調値を有する映像領域に対応する分割領域のLEDの発光輝度値は、直線OCの関係に従い、入力映像階調値Bに対応するLEDの発光輝度値と0の間の値に決定される。
図6(B)では、図6(A)の直線OCが、下に凸の曲線に変更されており、さらに図6(C)では、図6(A)の直線OCが、直線CEと、ハロ対策を行わない場合の直線OEに変更されている。
また、図6(D)では、図6(A)の直線CDが、傾きが正である直線C’Dに変更されており、図6(A)の直線OCが、直線OC’に変更されている。図6(E)では、図6(D)の直線OC’が、下に凸の曲線に変更されており、さらに図6(F)では、図6(D)の直線OC’が、直線C’Eと、ハロ対策を行わない場合の直線OEに変更されている。
さらに、図6(G)では、図6(A)の直線CDが、直線CDと同じく傾きが0である直線C’D’に変更されており、図6(A)の直線OCが、直線OC’に変更されている。図6(H)では、図6(G)の直線OC’が、下に凸の曲線に変更されており、さらに図6(I)では、図6(G)の直線OC’が、直線C’Eと、ハロ対策を行わない場合の直線OEに変更されている。
図6において、左上の実線のグラフほど、入力映像階調値A、B間で、LED発光輝度値の差が小さくなるので、ハロの発生をより抑制することができる。また、右下の実線のグラフほど、LED発光輝度値が小さくなるので、より電力消費量を削減することができる。
例えば、図6(A)の実線のグラフにおける直線CDにより決定されるLED発光輝度値は、図6(I)の実線のグラフにおける直線C’D’により決定されるLED発光輝度値よりも大きな値となるので、図6(A)の実線のグラフを用いた場合、ハロの発生をより抑制することができ、一方、図6(I)の実線のグラフを用いた場合、電力消費量をより削減することができる。
なお、図6に示したグラフのうち、いずれかを選択し、選択されたグラフを固定的に用いることとしてもよいし、用いるグラフを切り替え可能にすることとしてもよい。例えば、バックライト輝度調整部12は、輝度値が所定の値よりも小さい画素数の全画素数に対する割合が、所定の割合よりも大きくなったことを検出した場合に、入力映像階調値が所定値よりも小さい領域において、LED発光輝度値が、上記検出前に用いていたグラフよりも小さくなるグラフ(例えば、図6(C)、(F)、(I)など)にグラフを切り替えることとしてもよい。これにより、入力映像に黒のパターンが多い場合に、低階調の映像領域に対応する分割領域のLED発光輝度値を低くすることができ、黒浮きの発生を抑制することができる。
また、映像表示装置に光センサを備え、その光センサで周囲照度を測定し、周囲照度が所定値よりも小さくなったことを検出した場合に、バックライト輝度調整部12は、入力映像階調値が所定値よりも小さい領域において、LED発光輝度値が、上記検出前に用いていたグラフよりも小さくなるグラフ(例えば、図6(C)、(F)、(I)など)にグラフを切り替えることとしてもよい。これにより、周囲照度が低い場合に、低階調の映像領域に対応する分割領域のLED発光輝度値を低くすることができ、黒浮きの発生を抑制することができる。
また、ハロ対策重視モード、電力消費量削減モードなどの映像表示モードを図6の実線で表される各グラフに対応付け、ユーザから映像表示モードの切り替え指示を受け付けることにより図6の各グラフを切り替えることとしてもよい。例えば、ハロ対策重視モードには図6(A)の実線で表されるグラフが対応付けられ、電力消費量削減モードには図6(G)の実線で表されるグラフが対応付けられることとしてもよい。これにより、ユーザがハロ対策を重視するのか、電力消費量削減を重視するかに応じてLEDの発光輝度を適切に制御することができる。
また、ユーザによる映像表示モードの切り替えや映像の変化による補正レベルの変化に伴ってグラフ形状の変更を行う場合に、急にLED点灯状態が切り替えられることによる映像の見た目の違和感を低減させるため、グラフ形状の変更を段階的に行うこととしてもよい。
図7は、映像表示モード切り替え時、若しくは映像の変化により補正レベルが変化する時のグラフ形状の変更について説明する図である。図7では、図7(A)の実線で表されるグラフと図7(B)の実線で表されるグラフとの間でグラフ形状を変更する例について示している。図7(B)の実線で表されるグラフは、LEDの発光輝度値を調整する上限として、入力映像階調値Bの代わりに、入力映像階調値B’が用いられる点で、図7(A)の実線で表されるグラフとは異なっている。
ユーザによる映像表示モードの切り替えの場合には、図7(A)はハロ対策重視、図7(B)は電力消費量削減重視のグラフであり、入力映像の変化の場合には、図7(A)はハロが発生しやすい映像、図7(B)は図7(A)に比べてハロが発生しにくい映像を意味する。
例えば、Cの座標値を(A1x,A1y)、Dの座標値を(B1x,B1y)、C’の座標値を(A2x,A2y)、D’の座標値を(B2x,B2y)とする。例えば、ユーザが、ハロ対策重視モードから電力削減量重視モードに切り替えた場合、もしくは入力映像がハロ発生しにくい映像に変化した場合、バックライト輝度調整部12は、入力映像階調値Bによりグラフ形状が決定される図7(A)の実線で表されるグラフから、入力映像階調値B’によりグラフ形状が決定される図7(B)の実線で表されるグラフに、用いるグラフ形状を、所定数のフレームにわたって段階的に変更する。これにより、ある入力映像階調値におけるLED発光輝度値が段階的に変更されることになる。
具体的には、バックライト輝度調整部12は、Cの座標値(A1x,A1y)をC’の座標値(A2x,A2y)に段階的に変化させる。また、バックライト輝度調整部12は、Dの座標値(B1x,B1y)をD’の座標値(B2x,B2y)に段階的に変化させる。
図7(B)の実線で表されるグラフから、図7(A)の実線で表されるグラフにグラフ形状を変更する場合も同様に、バックライト輝度調整部12は、図7(B)の実線で表されるグラフから図7(A)の実線で表されるグラフに、用いるグラフ形状を、所定数のフレームにわたって段階的に変更する。これにより、ある入力映像階調値におけるLED発光輝度値が段階的に変更されることになる。
具体的には、バックライト輝度調整部12は、C’の座標値(A2x,A2y)をCの座標値(A1x,A1y)に段階的に変化させる。また、バックライト輝度調整部12は、D’の座標値(B2x,B2y)をDの座標値(B1x,B1y)に段階的に変化させる。
また、シーンチェンジが検出されたタイミングで入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かの判定を行い、ハロ対策を行う場合のグラフとハロ対策を行わない場合のグラフとの間でグラフ形状が変更される場合に、急にグラフ形状が切り替えられることによる映像の見た目の違和感を低減させるため、グラフ形状を段階的に変更することとしてもよい。
図8は、ハロの発生しやすい映像か否かの判定に応じて行われるグラフ形状の変更について説明する図である。図8では、図8(A)の実線で表されるグラフと図8(B)の実線で表されるグラフとの間でグラフ形状を変更する例について示している。図8(A)の実線で表されるグラフは、ハロ対策を行わない場合のグラフであり、図8(B)の実線で表されるグラフは、ハロ対策を行う場合のグラフである。
例えば、C’の座標値を(A2x,A2y)、D’の座標値を(B2x,B2y)、Eの座標を(A2x,A3y)とする。上述した実施形態では、シーンチェンジ等により、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像でないものからハロの発生しやすい映像に切り替わったと判定された場合、つぎのシーンチェンジが検出されるまで、図8(A)の実線で表されるグラフから図8(B)の実線で表されるグラフへとグラフの切り替えが発生する。
このとき、バックライト輝度調整部12は、図8(A)の実線で表されるグラフから図8(B)の実線で表されるグラフに、用いるグラフ形状を、所定数のフレームにわたって段階的に変更する。これにより、ある入力映像階調値におけるLED発光輝度値が段階的に変更されることになる。具体的には、バックライト輝度調整部12は、Eの座標値(A2x,A3y)をC’の座標値(A2x,A2y)に段階的に変化させる。
また、上述した実施形態では、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像からハロの発生しやすい映像でないものに切り替わったと判定された場合、図8(B)の実線で表されるグラフから図8(A)の実線で表されるグラフへとグラフの切り替えが発生する。
このとき、バックライト輝度調整部12は、図8(B)の実線で表されるグラフから図8(A)の実線で表されるグラフに、用いるグラフ形状を、所定数のフレームにわたって段階的に変更する。これにより、ある入力映像階調値におけるLED発光輝度値が段階的に変更されることになる。具体的には、バックライト輝度調整部12は、C’の座標値(A2x,A2y)をEの座標値(A2x,A3y)に段階的に変化させる。
また、上記実施形態では、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かを、入力映像の階調値の度数分布を生成することにより判定することとしたが、これに限定されず、他の方法で判定することとしてもよい。
また、ハロ判定部10は、入力映像において、輝度値が所定の範囲内にある画素を連結することにより複数の領域を検出し、各領域を代表する代表輝度値(例えば、最大輝度値や平均輝度値)を検出することとしてもよい。
例えば、ハロ判定部10は、所定の階調値よりも大きい代表階調値のうち、最大の階調値と最小の階調値の差が所定値以上である場合に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定し、その差が所定値未満である場合に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定する。上記所定の階調値は、図4における階調値20に相当するものである。そして、ハロ判定部10は、図4で説明した入力映像階調値A、Bをそれぞれ、上述した最小の階調値、最大の階調値に設定する。
また、上記実施形態では、ハロ判定部10は、図2を用いて説明したように、入力映像信号の階調値が所定の階調値20よりも大きい範囲において、度数が大きい上位2つの階調値21、22を抽出し、上記範囲における階調値の度数の合計に対する2つの階調値21、22の度数の合計の割合が所定の割合以上であるか否かを検出することにより、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かを判定することとしているが、上記所定の割合にヒステリシス特性を持たせることとしてもよい。
具体的には、上記所定の割合は、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定されている状態で、入力映像信号の階調値がハロの発生しやすい映像か否かを判定する場合と、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定されている状態で、入力映像信号の階調値がハロの発生しやすい映像か否かを判定する場合とで、異なる割合に設定される。例えば、前者に対しては、所定の割合は0.98に設定され、後者に対しては、所定の割合は0.95に設定される。
このように、上記所定の割合にヒステリシス特性を持たせることにより、LEDの発光輝度の決定に用いられるグラフが図3の一点鎖線のグラフと実線のグラフとの間で頻繁に切り換わることを抑制し、急にグラフ形状が切り替えられることにより生じる映像の見た目の違和感を低減させることができる。
また、上記実施形態では、ハロ判定部10が、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かの判定をフレーム単位、あるいは、シーンチェンジが検出されたタイミングで行い、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合に、バックライト輝度調整部12が、図3の実線のグラフを用いてLEDの発光輝度を調整することとしたが、所定のフレーム数以上の入力映像が連続してハロの発生しやすい映像であるとハロ判定部10により判定された場合に、バックライト輝度調整部12が、上記LEDの発光輝度の調整を行うこととしてもよい。
また、所定のフレーム数以上の入力映像が連続してハロの発生しやすい映像ではないとハロ判定部10により判定された場合に、バックライト輝度調整部12が、図3の一点鎖線のグラフを用いてLEDの発光輝度の調整を行うこととしてもよい。
このように、所定のフレーム数以上の連続する入力映像を用いて、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かを判定することにより、LEDの発光輝度の決定に用いられるグラフが図3の一点鎖線のグラフと実線のグラフとの間で頻繁に切り換わることを抑制し、急にグラフ形状が切り替えられることにより生じる映像の見た目の違和感を低減させることができる。
さらに、上記実施形態では、図5で説明したように、黒のパターン8に対応するLEDの発光輝度を増加させずに、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4を増加させることとしたが、よりハロの発生を抑制するため、白のパターン2に対応するLEDの発光輝度5を小さくすることとしてもよい。以下に、この処理について詳しく説明する。
図9は、ハロ対策をしない場合の表示輝度について説明する図である。図9(A)は、斜め視における光漏れが小さい場合の例であり、図9(B)は、斜め視における光漏れが大きい場合の例である。このような光漏れの程度は、ガンマ特性などのパネル特性により変化する。
図9には、ローカルディミングにより決定されたLEDの発光輝度4、5と、そのLEDの発光により得られるバックライトの輝度分布6、液晶パネル17を正面からみた場合の液晶パネル17の透過率31が示されている。例えば、LEDの発光輝度4は、図15~図18におけるグレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度であり、LEDの発光輝度5は、図15~図18における白のパターン2に対応するLEDの発光輝度である。
また、図9には、液晶パネル17の入力映像に対する表示輝度の期待値30、液晶パネル17を斜めからみた場合の液晶パネル17の透過率32、液晶パネル17を斜めからみた場合の液晶パネル17の表示輝度33が示されている。
図9(A)の楕円40で囲まれた部分に示されるように、白のパターン2に近いグレーのパターン1の領域では光漏れが発生するため、液晶パネル17を斜めからみた場合の液晶パネル17の透過率32は、液晶パネル17を正面からみた場合の液晶パネル17の透過率31よりも大きくなる。
また、図9(B)の場合は、図9(A)の場合よりも光漏れが大きいため、図9(B)の楕円42で囲まれた部分に示されるように、液晶パネル17を斜めからみた場合の液晶パネル17の透過率32はさらに大きくなっている。
液晶パネル17を斜めからみた場合の液晶パネル17の表示輝度33は、バックライトの輝度分布6と、液晶パネル17を斜めからみた場合の液晶パネル17の透過率32に依存する。
そのため、図9(A)、(B)では、楕円41、43で囲まれた部分に示されるように、グレーのパターン1の領域において、液晶パネル17の表示輝度33が、白のパターン2の領域に近くなるほど大きくなり、ハロが発生する。
また、図10は、ハロ対策をする場合の表示輝度について説明する図である。図10(A)は、斜め視における光漏れが小さい場合の例であり、図10(B)は、斜め視における光漏れが大きい場合の例である。
図10(A)の例では、図9(A)の例よりも、図10(A)の楕円44で囲まれた部分に示されるように、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4を大きくしている。これにより、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4と、白のパターン2の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度5との差が小さくなり、図10(A)の楕円45で囲まれた部分に示されるように、ハロの発生が抑制される。
同様に、図10(B)の例では、図9(B)の例よりも、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4を大きくしている。しかし、図10(B)の場合は、図10(A)よりも光漏れが大きいため、図10(B)の楕円46で囲まれる部分に示されるように、液晶パネル17を斜めからみた場合の液晶パネル17の透過率32はさらに大きくなっている。
その結果、図10(B)の楕円47で囲まれる部分に示されるように、グレーのパターン1の領域において、液晶パネル17の表示輝度33が、白のパターン2の領域に近くなるほど急激に大きくなり、ハロが目立つようになる。
これを抑制するため、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4をさらに大きくすることも考えられる。図11は、ハロが顕著に発生する場合のハロの抑制について説明する図である。
図11では、楕円48で囲まれる部分に示されるように、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4が図10(B)の場合よりもさらに大きくなっている。この場合、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4と、白のパターン2の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度5との差が小さくなるため、ハロの発生が抑制されるが、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4が大きくなりすぎるという問題がある。
そこで、本実施形態では、図11のようにグレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4をさらに大きくする代わりに、白のパターン2の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度5を小さくする。
図12は、本発明に係るハロの抑制方法について説明する図である。この方法では、図12の楕円50で囲まれた部分に示されるように、グレーのパターン1に対応するLEDの発光輝度4を大きくする一方で、楕円51で囲まれた部分に示されるように、白のパターン2に対応するLEDの発光輝度5を小さくする。
これにより、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4と、白のパターン2の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度5との差が小さくなるため、ハロの発生が抑制される。
また、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4をそれほど大きくしなくとも、発光輝度4と発光輝度5の差を小さくできるため、グレーのパターン1の領域における輝度の過度な上昇を抑制することができる。
図13は、図12に示したハロの抑制方法におけるLED発光輝度の補正レベル算出方法について説明する図である。図13には、図3に実線で示したグラフが比較のために示されている。図13の縦軸は、LED発光輝度値であり、横軸は入力映像階調値である。なお、縦軸、および、横軸はそれぞれ、LED発光輝度値の最大値、および、入力映像階調値の最大値を用いて正規化されている。
図3の場合と同様に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定された場合、図13の一点鎖線のグラフに基づいてローカルディミングが行われる。具体的には、ローカルディミングでは、バックライトが複数の領域に分割され、各分割領域に対応する映像領域の階調値が検出される。ここで、映像領域の階調値としては、その映像領域に含まれる各画素の階調値の最大値や平均値が用いられる。そして、その映像領域の階調値を入力映像階調値として、図13の一点鎖線のグラフにより示される関係から、各分割領域におけるLEDの発光輝度が決定される。
一方、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合、LEDの発光輝度を決定するために用いられるグラフが、図3の一点鎖線のグラフから二点鎖線のグラフに切り替えられ、二点鎖線のグラフを用いて各分割領域におけるLEDの発光輝度が決定される。なお、図13の例では、一点鎖線の曲線グラフは、2.2のガンマ特性に基づいて設定されているが、LEDの発光輝度値と入力映像階調値との間の関係は直線グラフであってもよく、入力映像階調の定義にしたがって、つまり入力映像階調が表現する輝度が算出されるように一点鎖線のグラフが定められる。
ここで、入力映像階調値が図13のAとFの間の値である場合、実線のグラフの場合と同様に二点鎖線のグラフの場合においてもLEDの発光輝度値が大きくなるが、入力映像階調値がFよりも大きい値である場合、実線のグラフや一点鎖線のグラフの場合よりも二点鎖線のグラフの場合の方がLEDの発光輝度値が小さくなる。
このようなグラフを用いてLEDの発光輝度を決定することにより、図12で説明したように、グレーのパターン1の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度4と白のパターン2の領域におけるLEDの発光輝度5との差が大きくならないようにすることができ、ハロの発生を抑制することができる。
ここで、入力映像階調値A、B間の範囲が、特許請求の範囲における第1の範囲に対応し、入力映像階調値0、A間の範囲が、特許請求の範囲における第2の範囲に対応し、入力映像階調値B、1間の範囲が、特許請求の範囲における第3の範囲に対応する。
また、図13における入力映像階調A、Bは、例えば、図4で説明したのと同様の方法で決定される。図14は、図13における入力映像階調値A、Bの決定方法について説明する図である。なお、図14では、LED発光輝度値と入力映像階調値との間の関係が直線グラフで表されているが、図13の二点鎖線で表される曲線グラフの場合も同様にして入力映像階調値A、Bを決定することができる。
具体的には、図1に示した映像表示装置のハロ判定部10は、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であるか否かを判定する場合に、入力映像の階調値の度数分布を生成し、入力映像の階調値が所定の階調値20よりも大きい範囲において、度数が大きい上位2つの階調値21、22を抽出する。ここで、所定の階調値20は、図2で説明した階調値20に相当するものである。
そして、補正レベル算出部11は、ハロ判定部10により、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合に、入力映像階調値A、Bを、2つの階調値21、22の値に設定する。
また、ハロ判定部10により、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定された場合、補正レベル算出部11は、LEDの発光輝度の補正レベルの算出を行わないようにするため、例えば、入力映像階調値A、Bとして負の値を設定したり、B=Aとしたり、若しくは、検出/未検出という情報をバックライト輝度調整部12に出力する。
なお、入力映像階調値A、Bの設定方法はこれに限定されず、他の方法を用いることとしてもよい。例えば、前述のように、ハロ判定部10は、入力映像において、輝度値が所定の範囲内にある画素を連結することにより複数の領域を検出し、各領域を代表する代表輝度値(例えば、最大輝度値や平均輝度値)を検出することとしてもよい。
そして、ハロ判定部10は、所定の階調値よりも大きい代表階調値のうち、最大の階調値と最小の階調値の差が所定値以上である場合に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定し、その差が所定値未満である場合に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像ではないと判定する。上記所定の階調値は、図14における階調値20に相当するものである。そして、ハロ判定部10は、図14で説明した入力映像階調値A、Bをそれぞれ、上述した最小の階調値、最大の階調値に設定する。
また、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像であると判定された場合、図13の一点鎖線のグラフから二点鎖線のグラフにLED発光輝度の決定用のグラフが切り替えられるが、補正レベル算出部11は、入力映像階調値Bに対応するLED発光輝度値の下げ幅Yを、例えば、入力映像階調値Aに対応するLED発光輝度値の上げ幅Xと、図14に示した度数分布における入力映像階調値A、Bの度数とから、以下の式1を用いて決定する。

ただし、入力映像階調値Aに対応するLED発光輝度値が上げ幅Xだけ増加し、入力映像階調値Bに対応するLED発光輝度値が下げ幅Yだけ減少した結果、図13の二点鎖線において、入力映像階調値Bに対応するLED発光輝度値が入力映像階調値Aに対応するLED発光輝度値よりも小さくなった場合は、入力映像階調値Aに対応するLED発光輝度値が、入力映像階調値Bに対応するLED発光輝度値以下となるよう上げ幅Xが調整される。
ここで、入力映像階調値Aは、例えば、図2のグレーのパターン1の入力映像階調値に対応し、入力映像階調値Bは、図2の白のパターン2の入力映像階調値に対応する。ローカルディミングを行う際、図12で説明したように、グレーのパターン1に対応する領域のLEDの発光輝度を大きくするが、その領域から漏れた光の影響により白のパターン2に対応する領域の表示輝度も増加することになるため、白のパターン2に対応する領域のLEDの発光輝度を小さくすることができる。すなわち、図13に示したように、入力映像階調値BにおけるLEDの発光輝度を一点鎖線のグラフの値よりも小さくすることができる。
なお、上記式1において、入力映像階調値Aの度数の代わりに、図14に示した度数の分布を考慮して、入力映像階調値がA±α(αは、整数)の範囲に含まれる度数を用いることとしてもよい。また、入力映像階調値Bの度数の代わりに、入力映像階調値がB±β(βは、整数)の範囲に含まれる度数を用いることとしてもよい。
また、入力映像階調値Aに対応する領域におけるLEDの発光輝度の増加が入力映像階調値Bに対応する領域の輝度に与える影響は、入力映像階調値Aに対応する領域と入力映像階調値Bに対応する領域との間の距離に依存する。そのため、その距離の情報が得られる場合には、式1を用いて下げ幅Yを算出する代わりに、入力映像階調値Bに対応する領域の輝度の増加量を下げ幅Yとすることができる。
上述した式1では、入力映像階調値Aに対応する領域と入力映像階調値Bに対応する領域との間の距離について考慮していないため、式1における調整係数は、入力映像階調値Bに対応する領域において輝度が下がり過ぎることを防止するために用いられる。
また、図13に示す二点鎖線のグラフの形状は、図14に示した度数分布が変化するのに応じて変更されるが、図7で説明したように、グラフ形状を段階的に変更することとしてもよい。
同様に、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像でないものからハロの発生しやすい映像に切り替わったと判定された場合に、図13に示す一点鎖線のグラフから二点鎖線のグラフにグラフの切り替えが発生し、入力映像がハロの発生しやすい映像からハロの発生しやすい映像でないものに切り替わったと判定された場合に、図13に示す二点鎖線のグラフから一点鎖線のグラフにグラフの切り替えが発生するが、図8で説明したように、グラフ形状を段階的に変更することとしてもよい。これにより、グラフ形状の急激な変化によって生じる違和感を低減させることができる。

- 映像信号に応じた映像を表示する表示パネルと、該表示パネルを照明する光源としてLEDを使用したバックライトとを有し、該バックライトを複数の領域に分割して得られる領域ごとに、前記LEDの発光輝度を、前記分割して得られた各領域に対応する映像領域の階調値と前記LEDの発光輝度との間の所定の関係に基づいて制御する映像表示装置であって、
前記映像の階調値が所定の条件を満たす場合に、前記映像領域の階調値の、前記所定の条件に基づいて決定される第1の範囲における前記LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲が、前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲よりも小さくなるよう該LEDの発光輝度を調整する第1の輝度調整部と、
前記第1の範囲よりも値が小さい第2の範囲において、前記第1の輝度調整部により調整された前記LEDの発光輝度の下限値よりも小さい発光輝度になるよう該LEDの発光輝度を調整する第2の輝度調整部と、
を備えることを特徴とする映像表示装置。 - 前記所定の条件は、前記映像の階調値の度数分布を生成し、該映像の階調値が所定の階調値よりも大きい階調範囲において度数が大きい上位2つの階調値を抽出した場合に、前記階調範囲における階調値の度数の合計に対する前記上位2つの階調値の度数の合計の割合が、所定の割合よりも大きい条件であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記所定の割合は、前記映像の階調値が前記所定の条件を満たしていない状態で、該映像の階調値が該所定の条件を満たすか否かを判定する場合と、前記映像の階調値が前記所定の条件を満たしている状態で、該映像の階調値が該所定の条件を満たすか否かを判定する場合とで、異なる割合に設定されることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1の輝度調整部は、複数のフレームの前記映像の階調値が、所定のフレーム数以上連続して前記所定の条件を満たす場合に、前記LEDの発光輝度を調整することを特徴とする請求項1~3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の輝度調整部は、前記第1の範囲内における前記LEDの発光輝度を、該第1の範囲の上限値において前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度よりも小さい発光輝度に調整することを特徴とする請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1の輝度調整部は、前記第1の範囲内における前記LEDの発光輝度を、該第1の範囲の上限値において前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度に調整することを特徴とする請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記映像信号において所定の階調値よりも小さい階調値となる画素数の全画素数に対する割合が所定の割合よりも大きいことを検出した場合に、前記第2の範囲において、前記LEDの発光輝度を該検出前の発光輝度よりも小さくなるよう調整することを特徴とする請求項1~6のいずれか1項に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記映像表示装置の周囲照度を検出する照度検出部をさらに備え、前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記周囲照度が所定の値よりも小さいことが検出された場合に、前記第2の範囲において、前記LEDの発光輝度を該検出前の発光輝度よりも小さくなるよう調整することを特徴とする請求項1~7のいずれか1項に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1の輝度調整部は、映像表示モードの指定を受け付けた場合に、前記映像領域の階調値の第1の範囲における前記LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲が、前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度の変動範囲よりも小さくなるよう、前記映像表示モードの種類に応じて予め定められた関係を用いて該LEDの発光輝度を調整し、前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記第2の範囲において、前記第1の輝度調整部により調整された前記LEDの発光輝度の下限値よりも小さい発光輝度になるよう、前記映像表示モードの種類に応じて予め定められた関係を用いて該LEDの発光輝度を調整することを特徴とする請求項1~8のいずれか1項に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1の輝度調整部および/または前記第2の輝度調整部は、前記LEDの発光輝度を調整する場合に、該調整前の発光輝度から該調整後の発光輝度への変更を段階的に行うことを特徴とする請求項1~9のいずれか1項に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第1の輝度調整部は、第1の範囲よりも値が大きい第3の範囲において、前記LEDの発光輝度を、前記所定の関係に基づいて決定される該LEDの発光輝度よりも小さい発光輝度となるよう調整することを特徴とする請求項1~10のいずれか1項に記載の映像表示装置。
- 前記第3の範囲における前記LEDの発光輝度の調整量は、前記第1の範囲の下限値における前記LEDの発光輝度の調整量、前記第1の範囲の下限値に対応する前記映像の階調値の度数、前記第1の範囲の上限値に対応する前記映像の階調値の度数に基づいて決定されることを特徴とする請求項11に記載の映像表示装置。
