一方、特許文献1には、複数のプロジェクタを用いた画像表示システムに、システム全体を制御するシステムコントロールユニットを設け、このシステムコントロールユニットが各プロジェクタの光源の光度を調整することが記載されている。システムコントロールユニットは、各プロジェクタが備えるセンサーの測定値から輝度を求め、求めた輝度から基準となる輝度を決定する。システムコントロールユニットは、基準の輝度となるように、各プロジェクタの光度を制御する。
また、特許文献2には、照明輝度設定システムを構成する各ユニットが、バックライトのLED(Light Emitting Diode)のデューティ比を示す輝度設定テーブルを各段階の輝度に対応して記憶しており、輝度変更が入力されたユニットから輝度設定テーブルの番号を他の各ユニットに送信することによって全てのユニットの輝度を変更することが記載されている。
また、特許文献3には、マルチディスプレイ装置を構成する各ディスプレイが、複数の光源を有するバックライトユニットを有しており、各バックライトユニットを個別に調整して同じ明るさにすることが記載されている。
液晶モニタのバックライトの輝度は、点灯周期によって変えることができる。しかし、バックライトは、輝度が低下する寿命がある。また、製造のバラツキによっても、個体毎に最大輝度が異なる。従って、点灯周期が同じであっても、個々のバックライトの輝度は異なる。そのため、表示システムを構成する液晶モニタに通信により同時に同じ点灯周期を設定したとしても、各液晶モニタのバックライトの輝度は同じにはならない。よって、複数の液晶モニタを同時に使用する際には見難い表示となってしまう。
全ての液晶モニタについてバックライトの輝度が同じになるように表示システム全体で輝度を変えたい場合、目視にて輝度を個々に調節するか、センサーによって輝度を一定に保つ処理が必要である。しかし、液晶モニタの数が多い場合、個々に調節を行なうのは煩雑な作業であり、時間もかかってしまう。また、センサーは高価であり、コストが高くなってしまう。特許文献1~3は、このような問題を解決するものではない。
本発明は、このような事情を考慮してなされたものであり、複数の液晶モニタ装置を用いた表示システムにおいて、センサーを用いることなく、個々の液晶モニタに対するバックライトの補正を維持しながら、全ての液晶モニタ装置についてバックライトの輝度を連動して調整することができる液晶モニタ装置、表示システムおよびバックライト制御方法を提供する。
[1] 本発明は、バックライトの光を液晶パネルで変調して映像を表示する複数の液晶モニタ装置からなる表示システムに用いられる前記液晶モニタ装置であって、液晶モニタと、前記液晶モニタに可視光を出力するバックライトと、バックライトの輝度の調整値であるバックライト設定値の入力を受ける調節用スイッチと、親機の前記液晶モニタ装置から親機のバックライト設定値を受信する受信部と、前記受信部が受信した前記親機のバックライト設定値と前記調節用スイッチにより入力された前記バックライト設定値とに基づいて親機のバックライト設定値と自装置のバックライト設定値との関係を求め、求めた前記関係に基づいて、前記受信部が新たに受信した前記親機のバックライト設定値から自装置のバックライト設定値を算出し、算出した自装置のバックライト設定値に基づいて前記バックライトの輝度を調整する制御部と、を備えることを特徴とする液晶モニタ装置である。
本発明によれば、複数の液晶モニタ装置を用いた表示システムにおいて、センサーを用いることなく、個々の液晶モニタに対するバックライトの補正を維持しながら、全ての液晶モニタ装置の輝度を連動して調整することができる。
以下、本発明の実施形態を、図面を参照して説明する。
図1は、本発明の一実施形態による表示システムの構成を示す機能ブロック図である。表示システムは、複数台の液晶モニタ装置を備える。液晶モニタ装置は、バックライトの光を液晶パネルで変調して、映像を表示する。表示システムを構成する複数台の液晶モニタ装置のうち1台は親機100であり、他の液晶モニタ装置は子機200である。同図には、子機200を1台のみ示しているが、複数台が備えられ得る。親機100は、液晶パネルのバックライトの点灯周期を通信にて子機200に指示する。本実施形態では、バックライトの点灯周期を指示するために、親機100は、バックライトの輝度の設定値(調節値)であるバックライト設定値を子機200に通知する。
親機100は、液晶パネル101、映像処理回路102、バックライト103、バックライト制御回路104、処理部105、調節用スイッチ106及び送信部107を備えて構成される。
調節用スイッチ106は、ユーザの入力に基づく調節用信号116を処理部105に出力する。
処理部105は、調節用スイッチ106から調節用信号116の入力の入力を受ける。また、処理部105は、映像処理回路102を制御するための映像処理回路制御信号113、バックライト制御回路104を制御するためのバックライト制御信号115、及び、子機200を制御するための子機制御信号302を出力する。処理部105は、子機制御信号302により、子機200へ情報を送信することが可能である。処理部105は、調節用信号116により親機100のバックライト設定値が通知された場合、そのバックライト設定値に基づいたバックライト制御信号115をバックライト制御回路104に出力するとともに、そのバックライト設定値を設定した子機制御信号302を送信部107へ出力する。
送信部107は、処理部105から入力された子機制御信号302を子機200に出力する。
処理部105は、調節用スイッチ106から調節用信号116の入力の入力を受ける。また、処理部105は、映像処理回路102を制御するための映像処理回路制御信号113、バックライト制御回路104を制御するためのバックライト制御信号115、及び、子機200を制御するための子機制御信号302を出力する。処理部105は、子機制御信号302により、子機200へ情報を送信することが可能である。処理部105は、調節用信号116により親機100のバックライト設定値が通知された場合、そのバックライト設定値に基づいたバックライト制御信号115をバックライト制御回路104に出力するとともに、そのバックライト設定値を設定した子機制御信号302を送信部107へ出力する。
送信部107は、処理部105から入力された子機制御信号302を子機200に出力する。
映像処理回路102は、外部から入力された映像信号301と、処理部105から入力された映像処理回路制御信号113とに基づいて、液晶パネル101に最適な信号への変換処理を行い、変換により得られた液晶パネル映像信号111を出力する。バックライト制御回路104は、処理部105から入力されたバックライト制御信号115に従って、バックライト駆動電源114を出力する。バックライト103は、バックライト制御回路104から供給されたバックライト駆動電源114により、可視光112を出力する。液晶パネル101は、映像処理回路102から入力された液晶パネル映像信号111と、バックライト103が出力した可視光112により、映像を表示する。
子機200は、液晶パネル201、映像処理回路202、バックライト203、バックライト制御回路204、処理部205、調節用スイッチ206及び受信部207を備えて構成される。
調節用スイッチ206は、ユーザの入力に基づく調節用信号216を処理部205に出力する。受信部207は、親機100から子機制御信号302を受信し、処理部205に出力する。
処理部205は、調節用スイッチ206から調節用信号216の入力を受け、受信部207から子機制御信号302の入力を受ける。また、処理部205は、映像処理回路202を制御するための映像処理回路制御信号213、バックライト制御回路204を制御するためのバックライト制御信号215を出力する。処理部205は、調節用信号216により自装置(子機200)のバックライト設定値が通知された場合や、子機制御信号302により親機100のバックライト設定値が通知された場合、自装置の新たなバックライト設定値を算出し、算出したバックライト設定値に基づいたバックライト制御信号215をバックライト制御回路204に出力する。
映像処理回路202は、外部から入力された映像信号303と、処理部205から入力された映像処理回路制御信号213とに基づいて、液晶パネル201に最適な信号への変換処理を行い、変換により得られた液晶パネル映像信号211を出力する。バックライト制御回路204は、処理部205から入力されたバックライト制御信号215に従って、バックライト駆動電源214を出力する。バックライト203は、バックライト制御回路204から供給されたバックライト駆動電源214により、可視光212を出力する。液晶パネル201は、映像処理回路202から入力された液晶パネル映像信号211と、バックライト203が出力した可視光212により、映像を表示する。
なお、上述の処理部105、処理部205は、CPU(central processing unit)及び各種メモリにより構成される。そして、処理部105、処理部205の動作の過程は、プログラムの形式で記録媒体に記憶されており、このプログラムをCPUが読み出して実行することによって本実施形態の処理が行われる。
図2は、親機のバックライト設定値と子機のバックライト設定値との関係を示す図である。同図には、親機100のバックライト設定値を縦軸、子機200のバックライト設定値を横軸とした座標平面が示されている。同図は、親機100においてバックライト設定値が変更された場合の例を示している。
バックライト設定値401及びバックライト設定値402は、親機100のバックライト設定値(バックライト103の輝度の設定値)である。バックライト設定値403及びバックライト設定値404は、子機200のバックライト設定値(バックライト203の輝度の設定値)である。
バックライト設定値404は、子機200の調節用スイッチ206により入力されたバックライト設定値である。バックライト設定値404は、ユーザが子機200のバックライト設定値を調節した場合に更新される。バックライト設定値403は、処理部205により決定された輝度調節後の子機200のバックライト設定値である。
バックライト設定値401は、バックライト設定値403が変更される前、すなわち、子機200の輝度調節前の親機100のバックライト設定値である。バックライト設定値402は、輝度調節後の親機100のバックライト設定値である。バックライト設定値402は、ユーザが親機100のバックライト設定値が調節された場合と、ユーザが子機200のバックライト設定値が調節された場合に更新される。バックライト設定値402は、子機200の処理部205においてバックライト設定値403を算出するために用いられる。
具体的には、子機200の処理部205は、縦軸の成分が親機100のバックライト設定値401、横軸の成分が子機200のバックライト設定値404である座標405と原点0とを結ぶ直線上において、縦軸の成分がバックライト設定値402であるときの座標406からバックライト設定値403を求める。すなわち、処理部205は、(子機200のバックライト設定値404)/(親機100のバックライト設定値401)により求められる補正値(直線の傾きの逆数)を、親機100のバックライト設定値402に乗算して子機200のバックライト設定値403を求める。このように処理部205は、子機200のバックライト設定値を計算により求める。
次に、子機200のバックライト制御処理の動作を説明する。
[初期状態]
初期状態においては、まだ親機100からのバックライト設定値が子機200に入力されていない。子機200の処理部205は、初期状態では、親機100のバックライト設定値401と、子機のバックライト設定値404とが1対1であると判断する。つまり、処理部205は、補正値の初期値を1とする。そのため、処理部205は、子機200のバックライト設定値の初期値をバックライト設定値404とし、親機100のバックライト設定値401をバックライト設定値404と同じ値とする。子機200のバックライト設定値の初期値は、予め決められた値でもよく、ユーザが調節用スイッチ206に入力し、調節用信号216により処理部205に出力した値でもよい。また、親機100からバックライト設定値が入力されていないため、子機200の処理部205は、親機100のバックライト設定値402を、バックライト設定値401と同じ値とする。
初期状態においては、まだ親機100からのバックライト設定値が子機200に入力されていない。子機200の処理部205は、初期状態では、親機100のバックライト設定値401と、子機のバックライト設定値404とが1対1であると判断する。つまり、処理部205は、補正値の初期値を1とする。そのため、処理部205は、子機200のバックライト設定値の初期値をバックライト設定値404とし、親機100のバックライト設定値401をバックライト設定値404と同じ値とする。子機200のバックライト設定値の初期値は、予め決められた値でもよく、ユーザが調節用スイッチ206に入力し、調節用信号216により処理部205に出力した値でもよい。また、親機100からバックライト設定値が入力されていないため、子機200の処理部205は、親機100のバックライト設定値402を、バックライト設定値401と同じ値とする。
図3は、初期状態における親機のバックライト設定値と子機のバックライト設定値との関係を示す図である。同図に示すように、縦軸の成分が親機100のバックライト設定値401、横軸の成分が子機200のバックライト設定値404である座標405と原点0とを結ぶ直線上で、縦軸の成分がバックライト設定値402であるときの座標406から子機200のバックライト設定値403を求める。バックライト設定値401とバックライト設定値402が一致するため、座標406と座標405も一致する。従って、処理部205は、子機200のバックライト設定値403は、子機200のバックライト設定値404と同じ値であると判断する。
処理部205は、上記のように求めたバックライト設定値403に応じたバックライト制御信号215をバックライト制御回路204に出力する。バックライト制御信号215は、例えば、バックライト設定値403に対応したパルスの間隔を指示する信号であり、処理部205は、予めバックライト設定値とパルスの間隔との対応を記憶している。バックライト制御回路204は、バックライト制御信号215が示すパルスの間隔に従って電源を駆動し、バックライト203にバックライト駆動電源214を供給する電源の電圧や電流を制御する。バックライト203は、バックライト駆動電源214に従った点灯周期で点灯する。これにより、バックライト203の輝度が、バックライト設定値403に対応して調節される。液晶パネル201は、映像処理回路202から入力された液晶パネル映像信号211と、輝度が調節されたバックライト203の可視光212により、映像を表示する。
この後、後述するように、子機200においてバックライトの調節が行われたり、親機100から子機200にバックライトの調節値が入力されたりする。
[子機200においてバックライトの調節が行われた場合]
ユーザは、子機200の調節用スイッチ206によりバックライト203の輝度の調節値を入力する。調節用スイッチ206は、入力された輝度の調節値を設定した調節用信号216を処理部205に出力する。処理部205は、調節用信号216に設定されている輝度の調節値を、子機200のバックライト設定値404とする。また、処理部205は、調節用スイッチ206から調節用信号216の入力を受けたため、親機のバックライト設定値401は変化しないと判断する。
ユーザは、子機200の調節用スイッチ206によりバックライト203の輝度の調節値を入力する。調節用スイッチ206は、入力された輝度の調節値を設定した調節用信号216を処理部205に出力する。処理部205は、調節用信号216に設定されている輝度の調節値を、子機200のバックライト設定値404とする。また、処理部205は、調節用スイッチ206から調節用信号216の入力を受けたため、親機のバックライト設定値401は変化しないと判断する。
図4は、子機200において調節が行われた場合の親機のバックライト設定値と子機のバックライト設定値との関係を示す図である。同図に示すように、縦軸の成分が親機100のバックライト設定値401、横軸の成分が子機200のバックライト設定値404である座標405と原点0とを結ぶ直線の傾きは、調節前から変化している。つまり、補正値が変化する。
また、処理部205は、子機200のバックライト設定値404が調節されたため、親機100のバックライト設定値は変化しないと判断し、親機100のバックライト設定値402を親機100のバックライト設定値401と同じ値とする。処理部205は、座標405と原点0を結ぶ直線上において、縦軸の成分がバックライト設定値402であるときの座標406から子機200のバックライト設定値403を求める。バックライト設定値401とバックライト設定値402が一致するため、座標406と座標405も一致する。従って、処理部205は、子機200のバックライト設定値403は、子機200のバックライト設定値404と同じ設定値、つまり、調節用スイッチ206により入力された設定値と判断する。
以降の処理は、初期状態において記載した処理と同様である。つまり、処理部205は、求めたバックライト設定値403に応じたバックライト制御信号215をバックライト制御回路204に出力する。バックライト制御回路204は、バックライト制御信号215に従って、バックライト203にバックライト駆動電源214を供給する電源の電圧や電流を制御する。これにより、バックライト203の輝度が調節され、液晶パネル201は、輝度が調節されたバックライト203の可視光212により、映像を表示する。
この後、再び子機200においてバックライトの調節が行われたり、後述するように、親機100から子機200にバックライトの調節値が入力されたりする。
[親機100から調節値が子機200に入力された場合]
ユーザは、親機100の調節用スイッチ106によりバックライト103の輝度の調整値を入力する。調節用スイッチ106は、入力された輝度の調整値を設定した調節用信号116を処理部105に出力する。処理部105は、調節用信号116に設定されている輝度の調整値を親機100のバックライト設定値とする。処理部105は、親機100のバックライト設定値に応じたバックライト制御信号115をバックライト制御回路104に出力する。バックライト制御信号115は、例えば、バックライト設定値に対応したパルスの間隔を指示する信号であり、処理部105は、予めバックライト設定値とパルスの間隔との対応を記憶している。バックライト制御回路104は、バックライト制御信号115が示すパルスの間隔に従って、バックライト103にバックライト駆動電源114を供給する電源の電圧や電流を制御する。バックライト103は、バックライト駆動電源214に従った点灯周期で点灯する。これにより、バックライト203の輝度が調節され、液晶パネル101は、輝度が調節されたバックライト103の可視光212により、映像を表示する。
ユーザは、親機100の調節用スイッチ106によりバックライト103の輝度の調整値を入力する。調節用スイッチ106は、入力された輝度の調整値を設定した調節用信号116を処理部105に出力する。処理部105は、調節用信号116に設定されている輝度の調整値を親機100のバックライト設定値とする。処理部105は、親機100のバックライト設定値に応じたバックライト制御信号115をバックライト制御回路104に出力する。バックライト制御信号115は、例えば、バックライト設定値に対応したパルスの間隔を指示する信号であり、処理部105は、予めバックライト設定値とパルスの間隔との対応を記憶している。バックライト制御回路104は、バックライト制御信号115が示すパルスの間隔に従って、バックライト103にバックライト駆動電源114を供給する電源の電圧や電流を制御する。バックライト103は、バックライト駆動電源214に従った点灯周期で点灯する。これにより、バックライト203の輝度が調節され、液晶パネル101は、輝度が調節されたバックライト103の可視光212により、映像を表示する。
さらに、処理部105は、親機100のバックライト設定値を設定した子機制御信号302を送信部107に出力し、送信部107は、子機制御信号302を子機200に出力する。子機200の受信部207は、受信した子機制御信号302を処理部205に出力する。処理部205は、子機制御信号302に設定されているバックライト設定値を親機100のバックライト設定値402とし、親機のバックライト設定値401と子機のバックライト設定値404は更新しない。
図3に示すように、バックライト設定値401と子機のバックライト設定値404が変化しないため、座標405と原点0を結ぶ直線の傾きは変化しない。例えば、上記のように、子機200においてバックライトの調節が行われていた場合、最後に子機200においてバックライトの調節が行われたときの直線の傾きが維持される。つまり、現在の補正値は変化しない。処理部205は、座標405と原点0を結ぶ直線上で、縦軸の成分がバックライト設定値402であるときの座標406から子機200のバックライト設定値403を求める。
以降の処理は、初期状態において記載した処理と同様である。つまり、処理部205は、求めたバックライト設定値403に応じたバックライト制御信号215をバックライト制御回路204に出力する。バックライト制御回路204は、バックライト制御信号215に従って、バックライト203にバックライト駆動電源214を供給する電源の電圧や電流を制御する。これにより、バックライト203の輝度が調節され、液晶パネル201は、輝度が調節されたバックライト203の可視光212により、映像を表示する。
この後、さらに、子機200においてバックライトの調節が行われたり、再び親機100から子機200にバックライトの調節値が入力されたりする。
上述した実施形態では、輝度の調節の基準となる親機の液晶モニタ装置は、輝度の調節を受ける全ての子機の液晶モニタ装置に、親機のバックライト設定値を通信により配信する。子機の液晶モニタ装置は、ユーザが任意に子機のバックライト設定値を調節できる機能を有しており、親機から受信した親機の液晶モニタ装置のバックライト設定値と、子機の液晶モニタ装置に入力されたバックライト設定値とから、親機のバックライト設定値と子機のバックライト設定値との関係(補正値)を求める。子機の液晶モニタ装置は、親機のバックライト設定値が変更された場合、求めた関係により子機のバックライト設定値を算出し、算出したバックライト設定値に対応した点灯周期により、液晶パネルのバックライトを点灯するよう制御する。一方、親機は、親機のバックライト設定値に対応した点灯周期により、液晶パネルのバックライトを点灯するよう制御する。
上述した実施形態によれば、複数の液晶モニタ装置を用いた表示システムにおいて、個々の液晶モニタに対するバックライトの補正を維持しながら、全液晶モニタ装置の輝度を連動して調整することができる。また、上述した表示システムは、センサーを使用しないため、安価に実現することができる。

前記受信ステップにおいて受信した親機の前記バックライト設定値と、前記入力ステップにおいて入力された前記バックライト設定値とに基づいて親機のバックライト設定値と自装置のバックライト設定値との関係を求め、求めた前記関係に基づいて、前記受信ステップにおいて新たに受信した前記親機のバックライト設定値から自装置のバックライト設定値を算出し、算出した自装置のバックライト設定値に基づいて自装置のバックライトの輝度を調整する制御ステップと、
を有することを特徴とするバックライト制御方法。 - バックライトの光を液晶パネルで変調して映像を表示する複数の液晶モニタ装置からなる表示システムにおけるバックライト制御方法であって、
親機の前記液晶モニタ装置が、
バックライトの輝度の調整値であるバックライト設定値の入力を受ける親機入力ステップと、
前記親機入力ステップにおいて入力された前記バックライト設定値に基づいて自装置が備えるバックライトの輝度を調整する親機制御ステップと、
前記親機入力ステップにおいて入力された前記バックライト設定値を子機の前記液晶モニタ装置に送信する送信ステップと、
を備え、
子機の前記液晶モニタ装置が、
バックライト設定値の入力を受ける子機入力ステップと、
親機の前記液晶モニタ装置から親機のバックライト設定値を受信する受信ステップと、
前記受信ステップにおいて受信した親機の前記バックライト設定値と、前記子機入力ステップにおいて入力された前記バックライト設定値とに基づいて親機のバックライト設定値と自装置のバックライト設定値との関係を求め、求めた前記関係に基づいて、前記受信ステップにおいて新たに受信した前記親機のバックライト設定値から自装置のバックライト設定値を算出し、算出した自装置のバックライト設定値に基づいて自装置のバックライトの輝度を調整する子機制御ステップと、
を有することを特徴とするバックライト制御方法。
