Eine Dichtungsvorrichtung (10) zur Durchführung einer Achse (22) oder Welle durch eine Arbeitskammerwand (21), umfasst ein topfförmiges Gehäuse (11) mit einer innen liegenden Durchführungsöffnung (12) für die Achse (22) oder Welle und mit einem mehrlagigen Schüttungsbett (14) eines Schüttguts (15), das das Volumen des Gehäuses (11) zwischen der durchgeführten Achse (22; 22') oder Welle und der Wandung des Gehäuses (11) wenigstens teilweise ausfüllt, wobei zwischen dem Rand der Durchführungsöffnung (12) und der Achse (22) oder Welle ein Ringspalt mit einer Ringspaltweite S ausgebildet ist und die kleinste Korngröße des Schüttguts im Schüttungsbett (14) größer ist als die Ringspaltweite S.
