Abstract

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Elektrolysezelle zur Herstellung von Aluminium, umfassend eine Kathode, auf der Oberseite der Kathode eine Schicht aus flüssigem Aluminium, darauf eine Schmelzeschicht und oberhalb der Schmelzeschicht eine Anode, wobei die Kathode an ihrer Oberseite eine aus zwei oder mehr Erhebungen gebildete Oberflächenprofilierung aufweist. Die Oberflächenprofilierung der Kathode ist derart ausgestaltet und angeordnet, dass die Erhebungen jeweils an den Stellen mit dem höchsten Referenz-Wellenbildungspotential liegen, wobei das Wellenbildungspotential über eine Simulation der Bewegung und Wellenbildung der Schicht aus flüssigem Aluminium in der jeweiligen Elektrolysezelle bestimmt wird. Die Erfindung betrifft auch eine Kathode, deren Oberflächenprofilierung zwei oder mehrere in einer ersten Richtung verlaufende erste Stege und wenigstens einen dazu senkrecht verlaufenden zweiten Steg aufweist.
