According to a variant of the dishwasher according to the invention, the collection device has a hollow cylindrical housing and a piston rod slidably mounted therein, wherein the tension spring is at least indirectly connected to the housing at one of its ends and at least indirectly to the piston rod at its other end. The damping device may be formed, for example, as a hydraulic cylinder or as an air cylinder. The damping device may in particular be designed as a telescopic cylinder. This has the advantage of a relatively small spatial extent. Accordingly, the invention accordingly provides a soft intake or a self-closing of the dish rack of a dishwasher.
