- the present invention relates to a context variable initialization method used in context-based binary arithmetic encoding or binary arithmetic decoding.
- H.264 As a video encoding / decoding method, A method called H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC (hereinafter simply referred to as “H.264”) is known (Non-Patent Document 1). In this method, image compression processing is performed by moving image compression processing such as frequency conversion and quantization. Furthermore, a plurality of entropy encoding methods for reducing the bit amount of the output stream for the code after the image compression process are employed.

Specifically, FIG. 1 illustrates a process of analyzing a binary string output by encoding the value of a variable SE (Syntax Element) by CABAC (including binarization processing) “CABAC processing process for slice data. This is a flowchart excerpting a part of (FIG. 9-1, H.264 (09) _F9-1 of Non-Patent Document 1).
- encoding by CABAC is applied to a variable group (defined in the ae (v) type) included in a data structure of a portion corresponding to a substantial part of an image.
- the data structure corresponding to the substantial part of the image is currently data of a layer below slice data (slice data (Section 7.3.4), macroblock layer (Section 7.3.5)), and the like.
- variable is a variable given by the data structure definition or a variable derived by the data structure definition.
- the variable is a variable included in the data structure of the encoded stream.
- SE refers to a Syntax Element, which is a variable (variable name).
- step S502 it is determined whether a certain variable (SE) is the first variable (SE) in the slice regardless of the value (S502).
- This determination is a determination as to whether it is necessary to initialize a context variable corresponding to the variable. For example, if there are a plurality of macroblocks in a slice and the variable is related to the first macroblock, the determination result is YES. If the variable is related to the second and subsequent macroblocks and is the same type of variable (SE) as the variable related to the first macroblock, the determination result is NO. This is because the initialization of this type of variable has already been completed even if the values of the variables are different.
- initialization initialization of context variables of the context variable (variables) indicated by the ctxIdx corresponding to the variable is executed (S503).
- FIG. 2 is a diagram for explaining the correspondence between the variable (SE) and ctxIdx.
- FIG. 2 is a table showing the correspondence between variables and context indexes (ctxIdx) in the prior art (H.264).
- the upper part of the table indicates a variable (signal type, SE), and the lower part of the table indicates ctxIdx corresponding to the upper variable.
- FIG. 3A and 3B are diagrams for explaining a method of initializing a context variable corresponding to a predetermined variable.
- FIG. 3A is a flowchart illustrating an initialization method of context variables specified by each context index derived in step S503 (Initialization of context variables) of FIG.
- FIG. 3B is a diagram illustrating a calculation method in the context variable initialization method. That is, FIG. H.264 shows a calculation formula applied to all ctxIdx (0 to 1023).
- an initial value of pStateIdx indicating which of 64 sequences from 0 to 63 corresponds to a probability sequence
- two values “0” and “1” The initial value of valMPS that indicates which value has the higher probability is derived by substantially one dynamic control parameter SliceQPy.
- preCtxState (1..126) is first derived to determine preStateIdx (0..63).
- m and n are constants that give a slope (m) and an intercept (n) when preCtxState (y) is expressed as a linear function of SliceQPy (x), and are statically determined in advance. Yes. Therefore, this initialization method can be said to be one initialization method with substantially one control parameter (SliceQPy).
- SliceQPy is an initial value of QPy applied to the slice by the value of the pic_init_qp_minus26 variable specified in the slice header for each slice. This is a variable that abstracts the initial value of the luminance quantization parameter applied to the slice (H.264 standard format 8-422, etc.).
- a set (1st division to nth division) is formed from a different viewpoint from the individual variables defined in the data structure (including cases where the coefficient positions are different and whether they are counted as one variable). I'm considering doing that.
- One viewpoint for forming a set is “type of control parameter”.
- the variable belonging to the section (first to nth sections) formed based on the type of control parameter (# 1 to #n) is the control parameter “QPy” (brightness quantization parameter). I noticed that the static initialization described above is not optimal.
- the arithmetic coding applied to the image data part is extended to the upper layer parameters (including the control parameter QP itself). In doing so, it was found that other control parameters were needed that gave an optimal initialization method different from QP.
- the arithmetic decoding method initializes a context variable for specifying an occurrence probability of a value that can be taken by each array element included in a binary array corresponding to a value of a predetermined variable,
- An arithmetic decoding method for arithmetically decoding the binary array using the context variable wherein an initialization method corresponding to the predetermined variable or a section to which the predetermined variable belongs is selected from a plurality of initialization methods.
- At least one of the plurality of initialization methods depends on a color difference quantization step.
- At least one of the plurality of initialization methods depends on the maximum number of reference pictures.
- At least one of the plurality of initialization methods depends on a picture resolution.
- At least one of the plurality of initialization methods depends on a slice position.
- the arithmetic coding method also initializes a context variable for specifying a probability of occurrence of a value that can be taken by each array element included in a binary array corresponding to a value of a predetermined variable.
- An arithmetic encoding method that arithmetically encodes the binary array using the context variable, wherein an initialization method corresponding to the predetermined variable or a section to which the predetermined variable belongs is a plurality of initialization methods.

- the arithmetic decoding unit 300 is provided in an image decoding device 400 that decodes encoded image data that has been compression-encoded.
- an image decoding device 400 that decodes encoded image data that has been compression-encoded.
- the image decoding apparatus 400 decodes the encoded image data that has been compression encoded. For example, the image decoding apparatus 400 receives encoded image data as a decoding target signal for each block. The image decoding apparatus 400 restores image data by performing entropy decoding, inverse quantization, and inverse transformation on the input decoding target signal.
- the image decoding apparatus 400 includes an entropy decoding unit 410, an inverse quantization / inverse conversion unit 420, an adder 425, a deblocking filter 430, a memory 440, an intra prediction unit 450, A motion compensation unit 460 and an intra / inter switch 470 are provided.
- the entropy decoding unit 410 restores the quantization coefficient by entropy decoding the input signal (input stream).
- the input signal (input stream) is a signal to be decoded and corresponds to data for each block of the encoded image data.
- the entropy decoding unit 410 acquires motion data from the input signal and outputs the acquired motion data to the motion compensation unit 460.
- the inverse quantization / inverse transform unit 420 restores the transform coefficient by inversely quantizing the quantized coefficient restored by the entropy decoding unit 410. Then, the inverse quantization / inverse transform unit 420 restores the prediction error by inversely transforming the restored transform coefficient.
- the adder 425 generates a decoded image by adding the restored prediction error and the prediction signal.
- the deblocking filter 430 performs deblocking filter processing on the generated decoded image.
- the decoded image subjected to the deblocking filter process is output as a decoded signal.
- the memory 440 is a memory for storing a reference image used for motion compensation. Specifically, the memory 440 stores a decoded image that has been subjected to deblocking filter processing.
- the intra prediction unit 450 generates a prediction signal (intra prediction signal) by performing intra prediction. Specifically, the intra prediction unit 450 generates an intra prediction signal by performing intra prediction with reference to images around the block to be decoded (input signal) in the decoded image generated by the adder 425. .
- the motion compensation unit 460 generates a prediction signal (inter prediction signal) by performing motion compensation based on the motion data output from the entropy decoding unit 410.
- the intra / inter switch 470 selects either the intra prediction signal or the inter prediction signal, and outputs the selected signal to the adder 425 as a prediction signal.
- the image decoding apparatus 400 decodes encoded image data that has been compression-encoded.
- the arithmetic decoding unit 300 according to the present embodiment shown in FIG. 5 is provided in the entropy decoding unit 410. That is, the arithmetic decoding unit 300 performs arithmetic decoding and multi-value coding on encoded image data that has been subjected to predictive encoding as an input stream IS.
- the signal type information SE is information indicating the position of the quantization coefficient, motion data, or the intra prediction direction used by the intra prediction unit 450.
- the arithmetic decoding unit 300 includes a binary arithmetic decoder 301, a symbol occurrence probability storage unit 302, a context control unit 303, and a multilevel conversion unit 304.
- the binary arithmetic decoder 301 outputs the binary signal OBIN by arithmetically decoding the input stream IS using the occurrence probability information PE output from the symbol occurrence probability storage unit 302.
- the symbol occurrence probability storage unit 302 stores a context variable for specifying the occurrence probability for each context. Then, the symbol occurrence probability storage unit 302 outputs the occurrence probability PE to the binary arithmetic decoder 301 in accordance with an instruction from the context control unit 303.
- the context control unit 303 specifies the context corresponding to the variable SE and causes the symbol occurrence probability storage unit 302 to output the occurrence probability PE specified by the context variable of the context.
- the context control unit 303 updates the context variable stored in the symbol occurrence probability storage unit 302 in order to update the occurrence probability according to the value of the binary signal OBIN.
- the context control unit 303 initializes the context variable stored in the symbol occurrence probability storage unit 302 when the context variable needs to be initialized. Details of the initialization of the context variable will be described later.
- the multi-value quantization unit 304 multi-values the binary signal OBIN to output quantization coefficients or motion data.
- the context variable initialization process in the present embodiment is executed by the context control unit 303.
- another processing unit for example, a context division control unit (not shown) or the like) performs a process of determining or changing a division according to the value of the control signal, and a variable (or a set of variables (first to n divisions) ) Can be provided to the context control unit 303.
- the encoding device side and the decoding device side must use a common probability (or probability update model).
- the same probability model (initial probability value, update rule) is used on the encoding device side that generates one range (a value that abstracts a section on the number line) and on the decoding device side that interprets this value (section). Otherwise, the arithmetic coding / decoding framework breaks down. Therefore, on the encoding device side, after the value of the control parameter is determined, the same context initialization process as that executed on the decoding device side is performed.
- FIG. 6 is a flowchart showing context variable initialization processing according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention. This initialization process is executed when the context control unit 303 needs to initialize a context variable corresponding to a variable to be arithmetically encoded.
- step S101 the context control unit 303 determines whether the analysis target variable (predetermined variable) belongs to any of the first to nth divisions (S101). For example, variable classification as shown in FIG. 7 is used.
- the category may be set for a set of variables or a set of contexts.
- the division does not necessarily need to be set statically, and may change dynamically. If the partition changes dynamically (or is specified on the encoding side), the partition can also be specified using an index.
- the context control unit 303 determines whether the initialization method varies depending on the category (first to n-th initialization methods (n is an integer of 2 or more). ) Is executed (S103, S105,). That is, the context control unit 303 first determines an initialization method corresponding to the determined category from among a plurality of initialization methods. Then, the context control unit 303 initializes the context variable corresponding to the variable to be analyzed using the determined initialization method.
- the initialization method may be associated with a variable to be analyzed. That is, the context control unit 303 may determine an initialization method corresponding to the variable to be analyzed from a plurality of initialization methods.
- the context control unit 303 may determine an initialization method corresponding to a category or variable by referring to information in which the category or variable is associated with an initialization method. This information may be stored in a storage unit (memory) (not shown), for example.
- FIG. 8 is a diagram showing a correspondence relationship between the first to n-th initialization methods (init_method [1..i]) and combinations of zero or more control parameters used in each initialization method.
- a row corresponds to an initialization method number
- a column corresponds to a control parameter number (first to jth control parameters).
- the coefficient a (i, j) designated by the matrix number takes a value of “0” or “1”, for example.
- the context control unit 303 can specify which parameter is used by the first to n-th initialization methods by referring to this table.
- control parameters described below are examples, and the control parameters according to the present invention are not limited to the control parameters described below.
- the first control parameter (param # 1) is, for example, “luminance quantization step”. That is, at least one of the first to n-th initialization methods may depend on the luminance quantization step. As a result, the degree of correlation between the binary array and the luminance quantization step can be reflected in the initialization process, as in the prior art.
- the second control parameter (param # 2) is, for example, “color difference quantization step”. That is, at least one of the first to n-th initialization methods may depend on a color difference quantization step.
- the degree of correlation between the binary array and the luminance quantization step could be reflected in the initialization process.
- the degree of correlation between the color difference and the quantization step can be reflected in the initialization process.
- the initialization process can be performed using the tendency that the information amount related to the color difference becomes large, and the encoding efficiency can be further improved.
- the coding information related to the color difference signal is, for example, information related to the color difference prediction mode or information related to coding of the color difference quantization coefficient. More specifically, the coding information related to the color difference signal is information for distinguishing between zero and non-zero coefficients, or information indicating where the non-zero coefficient is located in the transform block.

More specifically, the encoding information related to the maximum number of reference frames is information indicating the prediction reference direction, the magnitude of a motion vector, or the index of a frame to be referenced, for example.
- the third control parameter (param # 3) is “the maximum number of reference frames”, but may be replaced with information related to prediction in the time direction, for example. Also, for example, the third control parameter (param # 3) may be information indicating the frame rate of the input image signal. Even in this case, when the frame rate is high, the initial value can be adjusted using the fact that the correlation in the time direction is high, and the encoding efficiency can be further improved.
- the fourth control parameter (param # 4) is “resolution of picture to which this slice belongs” given by a predetermined parameter, for example. That is, at least one of the first to n-th initialization methods may depend on the resolution of the picture.
- the encoding information related to the resolution of the input signal is, for example, information related to the unit of encoding processing or information related to encoding of the quantization coefficient. More specifically, the encoding information related to the resolution of the input signal is, for example, information for distinguishing between zero and non-zero coefficients, or information indicating where the non-zero coefficient is located in the transform block. It is.
- the fifth control parameter is, for example, “a signal indicating a difference between slices” (a position in the space of a slice to be decoded). That is, at least one of the first to n-th initialization methods may depend on the position of the slice in the picture.
- the coding information related to the characteristics of the slice is, for example, information related to slice position information or a difference in the coding method of the slice.
- the control parameter may be a fixed value. This fixed value may be the same value as n (the number of control parameters).
- the first to nth control parameters may be independent of each other. Further, it may not be a function relationship in which other control parameters are uniquely determined from the first control parameter.
- control parameter may be another variable in this slice and the signal type (value) obtained by arithmetic decoding.
- the probability of switching to the initialization method using the control parameter appropriate to the information type (group) is initialized for the initialization of the context variable for the predetermined section (a plurality of contexts Idx).
- the initial value of can be set.
- the information such as the classification may be determined in advance which processing unit is used for each signal type to be encoded, or header information (for example, information indicating a profile or another control parameter is transmitted, Switching may be performed by (decoding).
- the initialization method can be switched in accordance with the characteristics of the input signal, and the encoding efficiency can be further improved.
- the inclusion relationship between the index and the category may be a relationship that includes the other.
- the values of variables or individual values of elements arranged in a binary array etc.

- An initialization method different from the H.264 initialization method is applied. It should be noted that the present invention. In order to apply to the same probability model as H.264, a plurality of indexes may be included in one section.
- the context variable initialization method according to the present embodiment can also be applied to the arithmetic coding method. That is, also in the arithmetic coding method, the context variable can be initialized as shown in FIGS. Thereby, the same effect as the above arithmetic decoding method can be obtained.

- the power saving effect can be further enhanced by changing the voltage applied to the LSI ex500 or the device including the LSI ex500 in conjunction with the switching of the driving frequency. For example, when the drive frequency is set low, it is conceivable that the voltage applied to the LSI ex500 or the device including the LSI ex500 is set low as compared with the case where the drive frequency is set high.
- the setting method of the driving frequency may be set to a high driving frequency when the processing amount at the time of decoding is large, and to a low driving frequency when the processing amount at the time of decoding is small. It is not limited to the method.
- the amount of processing for decoding video data compliant with the MPEG4-AVC standard is larger than the amount of processing for decoding video data generated by the moving picture encoding method or apparatus described in the above embodiments. It is conceivable that the setting of the driving frequency is reversed to that in the case described above.
- the method for setting the drive frequency is not limited to the configuration in which the drive frequency is lowered.
- the voltage applied to the LSIex500 or the apparatus including the LSIex500 is set high.
- the driving of the CPU ex502 is stopped.
- the CPU ex502 is temporarily stopped because there is room in processing. Is also possible. Even when the identification information indicates that the video data is generated by the moving image encoding method or apparatus described in each of the above embodiments, if there is a margin for processing, the CPU ex502 is temporarily driven. It can also be stopped. In this case, it is conceivable to set the stop time shorter than in the case where the video data conforms to the conventional standards such as MPEG-2, MPEG4-AVC, and VC-1.
- a plurality of video data that conforms to different standards may be input to the above-described devices and systems such as a television and a mobile phone.
- the signal processing unit ex507 of the LSI ex500 needs to support a plurality of standards in order to be able to decode even when a plurality of video data complying with different standards is input.
- the signal processing unit ex507 corresponding to each standard is used individually, there is a problem that the circuit scale of the LSI ex500 increases and the cost increases.
- a decoding processing unit for executing the moving picture decoding method shown in each of the above embodiments and a decoding conforming to a standard such as MPEG-2, MPEG4-AVC, or VC-1
- the processing unit is partly shared.
- An example of this configuration is shown as ex900 in FIG.
- the moving picture decoding method shown in each of the above embodiments and the moving picture decoding method compliant with the MPEG4-AVC standard are processed in processes such as entropy coding, inverse quantization, deblocking filter, and motion compensation. Some contents are common.
- the decoding processing unit ex902 corresponding to the MPEG4-AVC standard is shared, and for the other processing content unique to the present invention not corresponding to the MPEG4-AVC standard, the dedicated decoding processing unit ex901 is used.
- Configuration is conceivable.
- a dedicated decoding processing unit ex901 is used for inverse quantization, and other entropy coding, deblocking filter, motion compensation, and the like are used.
- the decoding processing unit for executing the moving picture decoding method described in each of the above embodiments is shared, and the processing content specific to the MPEG4-AVC standard As for, a configuration using a dedicated decoding processing unit may be used.
- ex1000 in FIG. 27B shows another example in which processing is partially shared.
- a dedicated decoding processing unit ex1001 corresponding to processing content unique to the present invention
- a dedicated decoding processing unit ex1002 corresponding to processing content specific to other conventional standards
- a moving picture decoding method of the present invention A common decoding processing unit ex1003 corresponding to processing contents common to other conventional video decoding methods is used.
- the dedicated decoding processing units ex1001 and ex1002 are not necessarily specialized in the processing content specific to the present invention or other conventional standards, and may be capable of executing other general-purpose processing.
- the configuration of the present embodiment can be implemented by LSI ex500.
- the circuit scale of the LSI is reduced, and the cost is reduced. It is possible to reduce.
- the arithmetic decoding method and the arithmetic encoding method according to the present invention can be used as an image decoding method and an image encoding method.
- Such an image decoding method and an image encoding method can be used for various purposes.

Abstract
