Description

Process for producing surface decoration on vlies base material, and the decoration product applied by the process
The subject of the invention is a process for producing surface decoration on vlies base material, and the decoration product applied by the process, which is a special adhesive technology suitable in case of vlies materials for fixing wallpaper or other pictures of large size to walls or other materials.
The antecedent and background of the invention
The antecedent of the invention is the basic problem, that it is difficult to fix a wall decoration of large size. This problem comes up in the following fields of application: One of the main fields is wallpaper, fixing of which takes place with wallpaper adhesive. One of the problems is, that the adhesive used when wallpapering smears to the surface and the wall becomes stained after the adhesive had dried. The line of fitting of the wallpaper is optically striking, if it is not fitted the right way, spoiling the aesthetic effect, and in case not wallpaper, but a picture is to be fitted on the wall with similar technique, there the deterioration of the aesthetic effect could jeopardize the accomplishment of the task. When using adhesive for wallpapering, it is important to achieve the proper proportion of adhesive materials to get the appropriate density. Wallpaper of vlies base should be fitted in such a way, that the wall is prepared in advance, then it must be coated with the adhesive, then the wallpaper must be put up and smoothed. An additional drawback is that it needs substantial accessories, such as brush, rubber cylinder, sponge, etc.
The other main field of application is posters, fixing of which takes place with adhesive tape, or with double-sided stick-on materials. However this method is not suitable for placing aesthetic picture decorations.
In case of the state of the art solutions the picture is not directly stuck onto the surface (wall), but with the help of an intermediary carrier, such as for example a picture frame, nail, picture batten, various suspension systems help solve fixing.
According to present methods it is known the making of individual wallpapers from vlies material. This case the picture is put together from strips, and fixing takes place with traditional wallpaper adhesive. With this method there are several problems if we want to make pictures:
The vlies material is used as a wallpaper and is fixed with vlies wallpaper adhesive. The carrier of the vlies wallpaper is non-woven textile instead of paper, containing cellulose polyesther (or woolen) fibre mixture. The foam layer providing the pattern of the wallpaper is applied onto this carrier layer. Another type of vlies wallpaper is, when the complete wallpaper is made of vlies, and characteristically this kind of material is stamped to put pattern on the surface. Its use is justified by the facts, primarily, that only the wall must be provided with adhesive, not the wallpaper, it does not tear, crease, it can be cut when wet, dimensional ly stable, after sticking it can be removed and newly applied. Additional drawback results from the fact, that due to its large size it is difficult to stick evenly wallpaper or picture made of vlies material. There can be a lot of out of level places, respectively such places, where the wallpaper does not stick to the wall. In case the traditional vlies wallpaper is not stuck suitably, then these faults can not be repaired later, and can disturb the illusion and the whole effect of the picture considerably. Using two-sided self-sticking adhesives makes possible production of pictures of small and medium size, but this case the material covers the part provided with glue, however in large size, eg 1 m2 the packaging and delivery of the self-adhesive material is nearly impossible.
The state of the art
According to the state of the art the US 5744 217 patent makes known a wallpaper with a decorative scene that comprises a substrate adapted to be attached to a wall and a cover attached to the substrate. The cover includes a plurality of wrinkled metal foil parts. Each of the plurality of wrinkled metal foil parts has a front and a back. A thin, flexible material is connected to the back of each of the plurality of metal foil parts. The decorative scene is disposed on the fronts of the plurality of metal foil parts. To make a decorative wallpaper, a plurality of metal foil parts backed with a thin, flexible material are provided. The thin, flexible material of each metal foil part is secured to a second thin, flexible material. Paint is applied to the metal foil parts to provide a decorative scene. The painted metal foil parts and the second thin, flexible material are damaged to create a distressed and wrinkled decorative scene. The second thin, flexible material are secured to a substrate. In applying the decorative wallpaper to the wall, a plurality of metal foil parts backed with a thin, flexible material are made to provide the previously described decorative wallpaper with component parts of a decorative scene. Each of the component parts of the decorative scene are aligned for placement on the wall . The second thin, flexible material of each component part of the scene is then secured to the respective area on the wall.
The KR 2004 0067 721 Korean patent application published on 30 July 2004 makes known such a wallpaper, which has processed edges well adapted to combine the wallpaper parts with each other, and gives clean and beautiful appearance. The wallpaper has edges shaped with a cogwheel, or prominent and depressed portions. The edge processing is made corresponding to the relevant wallpaper design.
The US 6024 821 US patent makes known a method of positioning two strips of a wallpaper border. During the process the strips are in a non-aligned abutting relationship on a continuous surface is disclosed, in which an end of a first strip of the wallpaper border is positioned in an abutting relationship with an end of a second strip of the wallpaper border and in which the strips are at a pre-determined angle. The wallpaper is wallpaper having a dominant design feature. The method comprises placing a clear plastic sheet over the end of the first strip of wallpaper border and marking a line on the clear plastic sheet that contours around the dominant design feature on the wallpaper. The clear plastic sheet is positioned at the predetemiined angle over the second strip of wallpaper border such that the line contours around the dominant design feature on the second strip of wallpaper border. The clear plastic sheet and end of the second strip are then re-positioned over the end of the first strip of wallpaper border and the first strip, second strip and clear plastic sheet are cut simultaneously along the line.
The drawbacks of the abovementioned and practically applied solutions are, that it is not possible to produce decorating surfaces covering large surfaces with their help in such a way, that the decorated surface compose an uniform surface, respectively fitting of the single picture parts to one another can take place easily, accurately, with great safety.
According to the state of the art the DE 102005013625 patent application published on 05 10 2006 makes known such a decorative wallpaper, wich has two layers, the outer visible layer incorporating a sewn embroidered pattern, and the wall layer being unbroken by needle penetration. The wall side of the wall covering is a textile e.g. non- woven fleece. The outer an inner layer are bonded together by an adhesive. The visible layer is made of paper, carton, plastic-coated material and/or fleece. The layer in contact with the wall is non-permeable for wallpaper paste. A two-stage process to produce the wallpaper, in the first stage a web of the outer layer is decorated by an embroidery process, and in the second stage bonded to the inner layer.
The CN 201106141 utility model published on 27 08 2008 discloses a cloth-base wallpaper. The wallpaper comprises a basic layer, an adhesive layer and a surface decoration layer from down to top. The cloth-base wallpaper is characterized in that: the basic layer of the wallpaper is cloth which can be fiber non-woven cloth or a composite PVC layer of ordinary knitted cloth. The wallpaper made with the technical proposal of the utility model not only enhances tensile strength with higher by more than 10 times than the tensile strength standard of the wallpaper required by the state but also has the advantages of being damp-proof, wear resistance and high tensile strength, in addition, the wallpaper gives high-grade feeling to people.
The GB 2413451 patent description makes known a wallpaper printing system, which comprises a host computer and associated printer and a user, remote terminal, connected via communications link. In use, the dimensions of a wallpaper boundary are determined, and a digital image - which may be user input - is transmitted from the remote to the host computer. In the host computer, the design is resized or enlarged so as not to exceed the wallpaper boundary, and the design is divided to be printed in parts, such as sub image strips. The resulting image of the divided design is transmitted back to the remote computer for display to a user, then printed on wallpaper substrate. The various user input images may be used to form a composite image to make up the wallpaper design.
The RU 2344053 patent description makes known an invention concerns light industry, particularly methods of ornamental articles manufacturing in two versions of implementation involve article manufacturing in a flat or spatial base. The method involves sketch drawing, material fragment preparation, fragment cutting and attaching to the base, and final fixation of article. Sketch is transferred to a flat base by division into squares, fragments of various geometrical forms are made of glossy paper, paper width depending on the base material, which is whatman and/or canvas and/or cardboard and/or glass and/or sticker film and/or metal and/or fabric and/or wood. Paper is processed with glue in several stages to achieve effect of manageable noncurling paper, fragments are attached to the base by sequential overlapping and/or butted fastening, leaving no clearance of the base, proceeding from lighter to darker tones to achieve spatial effect. Final fixation is implemented by glass and/or sticky tape pieces matching the form of individual fragments. By the process takes places the manufacturing of durable and cost-effective ornamental articles.
The patent application published on RU2169222 makes known a colored pattern transfer member for applying single-colored or multiple-colored pattern to textile materials by thermal action or by pressure force. The member has carrier sheet with non- adhesive surface having: single-color or multiple-color pattern printed on carrier sheet by means of digital control color printer; transparent layer of elastomer or white-colored layer of high softening point elastomer applied to pattern by printing according to predetermined configuration; and thermosetting thermoplastic polymeric adhesive layer applied by printing to transparent layer of elastomer or to white-colored layer of elastomer. Or thermosetting hot-melt glue granulate applied by spraying onto layer of elastomer in wet state. More reliable capsulation of colored pattern is provided by applying first transparent layer of elastomer or high-softening point polymer to carrier sheet by printing, and pattern is applied by printing to this layer of elastomer by means of digital control color printer. Strength of pattern is further enhanced by applying transparent layer of elastomer and white-colored layer of elastomer onto colored pattern by printing method. The solution has increased efficiency, improved quality of materials and increased decorative effect.
The HU U 3680 Hungarian utility model description makes known a decorating element for decorating wall surfaces. The decorating element consists of a raw material and a paint layer put onto the raw material. Its characteristics is, that the raw material of the decorating element is piles of disordered fibres, of loose structure, non-woven, thin, veiled, transparent material, and colorful paint layers and areas without paint are formed on the raw material, where the color of the wall surface can be seen on the areas without paint.
The PCT application published on WO2010070367 makes known a method for producing decorated surfaces by using printed wallpaper. By the method such decorated wall surfaces of large size can be produced, and fully perfectly integral picture surfaces can be ensured if the single wallpaper strips are accurately fitted even in case of using quite strong tone of colors. In the course of the method according to the invention, a picture divided into several units conforming with wallpaper strips that can be fitted next to each other on a common wallpaper raw material, and these wallpaper strips are put on in conformity with the picture and are fixed on the surface, in given case on the wall to be covered by adhesive, furthermore during putting up, the wallpaper strips are fitted to each other and cut if needed.
The method makes known in this document, characterised by that, a vlies carrying material, consisting of the mixture of textile, cellulose and binding material is used as the raw material of the wallpaper strips serving for forming the decorative surface, the picture elements appropriate for the decoration surface are printed on the vlies carrying material divided on wallpaper strips by digital printer, in given case a UV-head ink- jet industrial printer emitting paint of synthetic base, and the printed wallpaper strips created this way are fixed on the carrying surface with adhesive in such a way, that only the carrying surface where the wallpaper strip will be placed is smeared with the applied adhesive, the back side of the wallpaper strip is not smeared, furthermore the wallpaper strips; are arrayed next to each other along a vertical reference line according to a calibrated layout plan, in such a way, that the first one is fitted on the vertical reference line, and the next one in turn is fitted adjacent to the previous one, and resulting from this the wallpaper strips are placed on the carrying surface, in given case on the wall in such a way, that the greatest distance of the adjacent wallpaper strips along the fitting lines is: Δ1 < 0,3mm.
Aim:
When working out the solution according to the invention we aimed to elaborate an adhesive technology, which is suitable for fixing vlies materials on walls, or other surfaces in a simple way. Our aim that the costumer itselves be able to stick pictures onto the wall by this technology even in large size which can be several square meter size too.
Realization
We realized, when creating the solution according to the invention, that in case of the method worked out by us, such an adhesive is put onto the backside of the vlies material, which can be resolved back in water, and the pictures are applied to the wall in such a way, that those properties of the material are made use of, that it is of porous structure, and the water for the perfect fixing of the material can be provided from the picture side, while the picture is steadily fixed onto the wall, then the set aim can be achieved.
The realization leading to the creation of the process according to the invention furthermore is, that we use such an adhesive, which is water soluble, moreover, the surface and structure of the material used as the carrier of the picture is special.
This is a thin material of porous structure, preferably vlies, which material does not get soaked under the effect of water, respectively sticking up can be solved in such a way, that water is applied to the side of the picture where the picture is, whereas the adhesive is applied to the back of the picture, which is an adhesive, that can be resolved back in water, suitable for the task.
During sticking up water„diffuses" through the structure of the vlies material from the picture side, there resolves the adhesive and ensures a proper bond on the surface. An additional advantage is as well, that at the parts, where adhesion was not suitable, there it can be corrected by wetting the adhesive.
Furthermore during the creation of the invention, such a product is made, which is a picture placed on a vlies carrier, or a printed decoration, on the back of which a water- soluble adhesive layer is placed. This adhesive layer can be placed, respectively fixed onto the surface using the process according to the invention.
The invention is a process for producing surface decoration on vlies base material, during which decoration patterns, primarily pictures are produced by printing on vlies material, and the vlies material provided this way is fixed with sticking onto the wall surface. The process is characterized by that, following the printing of the picture on the vlies carrier layer, an adhesive layer of water soluble adhesive is formed on the back side of the vlies material, and the vlies carrier layer provided this way is fitted on to the wall surface to be decorated, then following smoothing, then the decoration surface is moistened on the picture side and is fitted on to the wall until it sets.
In one of a preferable application of the process according to the invention, moistening takes place with the help of water, in given case with textile, or sponge, or brush, or spraying device, or dampening, or steaming.
In another preferable application of the process according to the invention, the wall surface to be decorated is prior the placing of the decorational product is moistened in the known way.
In a further preferable application of the process according to the invention, the parts of the decorational product, that did not stick are corrected from the outside, the picture side of the vlies carrier layer, during which first the given surface part is moistened, then pressed towards the wall stuck onto the wall surface.
In a further preferable application of the process according to the invention, the vlies material applied is a raw material known and used in wallpaper production.
In a further preferable application of the process according to the invention, the adhesive applied is an adhesive that can be resolved back in water, preferable adhesive used for stamps.
In a further preferable application of the process according to the invention, the way of application of the picture is digital printing, suitable for printing pictures of large size, during which preferably printing either takes place directly onto the surface of the vlies material, in given case with latex printer, or a special coating is applied to the vlies material surface prior to the printing and printing takes place onto this coating in the known way.
In a further preferable application of the process according to the invention, the latex printing takes place with water base plastic base paint, which this case is purposefully applied for printing on vlies material.
The invention is furhermore a decoration product primarily for application according to process according to the invention, which characterized by that, the decoration product is a picture placed on a vlies carrier or a printed decoration, on the back side of which a water soluble adhesive layer is placed, and which product can be placed, respectively fixed onto the wall surface.
In one preferred realization of the product according to the invention, the vlies carrier applied is preferably extremely thin, with thickness of 0.03-0.05 mm.

Concrete realizations, examples:
Possible applications:
Pictures, decorations can be placed on wall surfaces.
Using this technique, decorations of enormous size, even sizes of several m2 can be made in such a way, that the aesthetical quality of the picture is excellent.
In order to produce it, - the vlies material itself, as well as the printing technique for the printing, furthermore adhesive technology, with which the printed vlies material can be fixed to the wall - are needed.
Printing technology: Printing, suitable for printing digital, large size pictures. In case of using latex printer, printing is possible directly to the vlies material. In case the surface of the vlies material is coated with a special coating before printing, this case printing is possible with any printer. The aim of this coating is to make the surface of the vlies material smooth, resulting in printing attractive, saturated colors even with using traditional printers.
Latex printing takes place with water-base, plastic base paint, which is used this case for printing on vlies material.
Both printing technology, and the material used must be to a certain extent size- and shape-proof. During latex printing first the paint is blown to the material, then temperature of 70-100 °C is needed, which stabilizes and dries the paint on spot on the material. Developing latex printing made it possible, that printing is possible on vlies material in such colors, in such quality. The characteristics, quality of the vlies material used:
Vlies material is generally used as wallpaper, and it is stuck up with vlies wallpaper adhesive. In our invention not a vlies wallpaper adhesive is used, but a prior water soluble, respectively resolving back adhesive layer. During the process according to the invention such a thin transparent vlies raw material is used as wallpaper, which is used as carrier only, not as wallpaper.
The vlies material used by us is preferably extremely thin, with a thickness of 0.03-0.05 mm, but in given case thicker vlies material can be used as well. As the vlies material is thin, material use is smaller, therefore it is cheaper, and delivery is easier to solve. Resulting from thinness, the picture fits perfectly to the material of the wall, almost becomes the material of the wall itself.
Additional information, data:
Sizes, that can be used: The picture size is determined by the size of the printer and earner material. At present the materials are printed on machines with 2,600 mm width. The material is available in width of 1,500 mm, in given case in rolls, that is the picture size possible to produce at present is a picture, the smaller size of which is 1 ,500 mm. The material of vlies: non-woven textile, containing cellulose polyesther fibre mixture (or woolen fibre). Thickness: 0.03 mm, or thicker.
The adhesive, that can be used is an adhesive, that can be resolved back, definitely an adhesive of Henkel type, used for stamps. The material of the adhesive in given case is
ENVAGUMES 3000 synthetic resin emulsion.
In given case the data of the adhesive applied in a concrete case:
Synthetic resin emulsion, liquid cream
Brookfield viscosity (Sp 3/20 rpm) 3,300 mPa.s., 23°C solid (at 105°C in one hour) 67% pH 4.5 and 1.17 specific density
It dries quickly, needs small amount of energy, excellent gloss, superb sight, many-sided adhesive, suitable for heavier papers, it sets quickly, fits well to mechanical fittings. It must be protected from contaminations, drying-out, freezing, must be kept closed, must not be mixed with other adhesives. It must be used within three months.
According to our findings all the wallpaper adhesives are unsuitable for this task, as if the wallpaper adhesive sets, then it can not be solved back in water and used again.
Concrete possible realizations, applications of the solution according to the invention Description of the concrete process:
-digital production of the picture in appropriate definition
-printing in the proper size with digital/latex printer
- in given case removing, cutting off superfluous edges (if necessary)
- applying adhesive layer to the vlies material opposite the picture side, with technique comforming with the material of the adhesive,
- preparing the wall, cleaning the surface, alignment (even, smooth, planish etc.) The surface of the wall is preferably smooth, white, possibly light color, suitable for wallpapering. Floating surface by removing protruding parts, in given case with the help of a suitable device, eg. pallette knife. In case the wall was made a long time ago, then it is necessary to remove dust near the surface of the picture, or stuck on the surface of the wall under the picture, in given case the treatment of the wall surface is necessary with the help of a clean, slightly moistened roller.
- Fitting the picture to the wall, then marking the wall in the right-hand and left-hand side of the upper edge of the picture so, that it is horizontal.
- Moistening the wall, spraying as much water on the wall surface under the picture, that it does not flow.
- Placing the picture material, straightening (positioning on the proper place, fitting).
- Sticking up the picture material, moistening on the proper spots, and pressing on the necessary spots in such a way and extent, that is sufficient, during which process the picture is rolled onto the wall with the help of a slightly moistened roller, while the upper edge of the picture is held stretched, until the picture sticks onto the wall. Water is sprayed in the necessary extent to the surface of the picture with the help of a water- spray, while it is gently rolled. The material of the picture is porous, so the water gets from the outer side to the side adjacent the wall. In case of placing the material in a wavy surface the correction of the surface takes place in an easy way, by slightly pulling the material back, then rolling it onto the wall surface again. Rolling of the picture should be started from the middle outwards.
In case the picture did not stick properly onto the wall after processing and setting, then the faulty places can be slightly moistened again, then roll the material onto the wall.
In case of the process according to the invention additional corrections have to be made in necessary cases only, as the technology applied is extremely simple and can be easily used.
The advantages of the solution according to the invention:
The sticking technology according to the invention is suitable preferably for fixing such pictures, that are directly stuck onto the wall, and it is important, that there is no discoloring, or stain on the wall surface next to the picture, which could spoil the complex effect of the finished job.
An additional advantage of this method is, that in case a part of the picture did not stick onto the surface, there it is also possible to achieve perfect result by re-moistening the material and fitting again onto the wall, this kind of reparation is almost impossible in case of other technologies.
Furthermore such a product is made during the realization of the invention, which is a picture placed on a vlies carrier, or printed decoration, on the back of which a water- soluble adhesive layer is placed. This can be placed, or fixed onto the surface by applying the process according to the invention. The advantage of the solution according to the invention is, that no other carrier material is necessary for the picture with this technology if the wall is of proper quality. Preparation of the picture and printing it onto the vlies material can be solved with the known, traditional technologies. It means portraying the full range of pictures in digital form.
Pictures of enormous size can be produced with this technology, which is impossible with other technologies. In addition to that the picture made can be transported easily and even the customer can put it up on the wall with simple tools.
The aesthetical effect and the level of visualization is top quality, in case of a painting and an art work the impression is the same as if they were painted or drawn onto the wall. In case of photos the effect is absolutely sculpturesque, the picture becomes spatial, and looks as if the picture has been printed on the wall.
