Abstract

The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling engine torque, and to a method for preventing the misdiagnosis of knocking. According to the apparatus for controlling engine torque and the method, when a gear is manually changed in an automatic-transmission vehicle, a misdiagnosis of knocking due to a sudden rise in torque may be effectively prevented to reduce torque loss and improve drivability which might otherwise be diminished by an unnecessary loss of torque. In the method for controlling engine torque to prevent the misdiagnosis of knocking, when a preset specific manual gear transmission condition occurs, an output torque from the engine is reduced to correspond to the preset specific manual gear transmission condition. When the gear transmission according to the occurrence of the specific manual gear transmission condition is completed, the output torque from the engine is restored. When the output torque from the engine is restored, a knocking occurrence diagnosis for the engine is stopped for a preset control time. Alternatively, when the gear transmission according to the occurrence of the specific manual gear transmission condition is completed, the output torque of the engine is sequentially restored according to a restoration speed corresponding to a reduction value of the reduced output torque on the basis of a previously defined torque restoration plan.
