Definitions
- This invention concerns a multipurpose lumbar corset which can be used wrapped around the lumbar area of patients suffering from backache, discopathy, and arthrosis, but also from lumbosacral trauma, herniated disk and for post-operative periods or the like.
- the lumbar corset according to the invention is made from breathable fabric that can ensure excellent compression and support, and comprises particular bracing elements that connect the two band-like half-parts, ensuring greater lumbar pressure and perfect adaptation and comfort for the patient .
- a distinctive feature of the invention concerns the presence of various pads, in particular of a dorsal pad and a front pad which, together with the bracing elements, allow a further improvement of the compression features of the device.
- This invention concerning this lumbar corset, can be applied in the production sector of accessories for orthopedic products and braces, mainly used in post- trauma, rehabilitation and post-operative conservative treatment .
- lumbar corsets are orthopedic aids that make it possible to treat some dysfunctions of the trunk, such as backache, sciatica, lumbosacral pain, minor trauma of the lumbar spine, lumbar paravetebral muscular contraction, discopathy, and herniated disk, and can also be used in the post-operative period.
- Known lumbar corsets consist of an openable band that is worn around the waist, close to the lumbar area.
- Traditional corsets are normally made from breathable elastic fabric and are provided with a padded dorsal panel, sometimes reinforced with semi-rigid rods with protected caps.
- Some lumbar corset models are provided with flexible rods at the sides and over the abdomen, that prevent the device from rolling up, and with an adjustable adhesive front closure, generally the Velcro type.
- lumbar corsets for preventive purposes, particularly for those whose spine is subject to frequent and prolonged flexion, torsion or stress (drivers, persons that do heavy work, athletes, etc.) or who have muscular hypoplasia .
- Corsets provided with crossed anatomical supports which help to lighten and redistribute the person's weight on the vertebral column, are particularly appreciated for their protection and support.
- This invention proposes to provide a multipurpose lumbar corset that can be wrapped around the lumbar area and that is able to eliminate or at least reduce the above-mentioned and other immediately consequent drawbacks .
- the proposed aims are achieved, according to the invention, by a multipurpose lumbar corset that can be used to correct backache and the like, with the function of effectively compressing the lumbar area, guaranteeing a dual effect: as an aid in rehabilitation by limiting the range of movement of the lumbar area and maintaining compression of the ligaments (aiding functional recovery by maintaining their correct position) , and as a means of preventing additional trauma since the corset is designed to maintain the lumbar area under the constant action of a force that prevents traumatic distortion.
- This type of lumbar corset unlike known solutions which for example comprise rigid bars, provides a high degree of comfort for the lumbar area since the components used are not rigid but elasticated or in any case flexible, to the advantage of the wearability of the corset by the user.
- the highly- breathable elasticated material with which the body of the corset is made and the presence of the shaped pads ensure that the corset always adheres correctly to the anatomical shape of the patient, also providing the support and compression necessary for maximum adherence and comfort.
- figure 1 represents the schematic front and prospective view of the overall lumbar corset according to the invention and wrapped around the lumbar area of the patient;
- figure 2 shows a schematic side view of the lumbar corset according to the invention and worn by a patient
- figure 3 is a schematic view of the dorsal sector of the corset according to the invention.
- figure 4 shows a schematic view of the external side of the corset in the open position ;
- FIG. 5 shows a schematic view of the internal side of the corset in the open position
- the lumbar corset according to the invention consists of a series of assembled parts that allow the corset to be easily worn and to maintain the correct alignment of the lumbar area when wrapped around the waist .
- the corset according to the invention which acts as an aid in cases of backache, sciatica and lumbosacral pain, minor trauma of the spine, paravertebral muscular contraction, discopathy, herniated disk, and also for the post-operative period, substantially consists of a band with two half-parts 11 and 12, whose two ends 13 and 14 form opening and closing elements of the corset and which can be fixed together on the front sector by the use of Velcro strips 15.
- the corset 10 is provided with crossed elastic straps 16 positioned in the rear sector and designed to hold the two half-parts together and to favour the elastic wrapping action as well as to guarantee correct, easy and rapid positioning.
- Another feature of the invention is the presence of pads 19 consisting of two half-parts 20 and 21 made by heat-forming and joined together by a joining element 22.
- Both the rear pad 19 and the front abdominal pad 23 are housed in specifically designed pockets in the two half-parts 11 and 12 of the corset 10, remaining firmly anchored in position, these pockets having the same shape and size as the pads they hold.
- the corset also comprises additional accessories to make it more comfortable around the waist, such as the elements in "airnet” type material 24 which are fitted inside the corset, the elements 25 in resined velvet, and other accessories shown in figures 13 to 16.
- the lumbar corset according to the invention is used to correct backache or the like and, being specifically designed to effectively compress the lumbar sector, it guarantees a dual effect: as an aid in rehabilitation by limiting the range of movement of the lumbar area and maintaining compression of the ligaments (aiding functional recovery by maintaining their correct position) , and as a means of preventing additional trauma since the corset is designed to maintain the lumbar area under the constant action of a force that prevents traumatic distortion.
- the form of the lumbar corset according to the invention was designed to favour wearability by the presence of the front opening and to guarantee correct, easy and rapid positioning; the corset does in fact foresee the use of a series of elastic belts and straps that can be fixed by means of Velcro, maintaining the adherence and position of the corset while it is being worn and during adjustment.
- the highly breathable elasticated material with which the body of the corset is made and the presence of the shaped pads also ensure that the corset always adheres correctly to the anatomical shape of the patient, also providing the support and compression necessary for maximum adherence and comfort .
