Abstract
Ce moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé comporte, pour chaque cylindre, une soupape d'admission (9) et une soupape d'échappement (10) capables d'obturer et de dégager un orifice d'admission (6) et un orifice d'échappement (8) débouchant dans une chambre de combustion (4) ménagée dans la culasse du moteur, un bord de « chasse » (11) délimitant d'un côté la chambre de combustion (4). La chambre de combustion (4) ne présente, du côté opposé au bord de « chasse » (11), aucune protubérance autour de l'orifice d'admission, le bord de « chasse » faisant un angle avec l'axe longitudinal de la culasse, de façon qu'une normale audit bord de « chasse », issue du point d'intersection entre l'axe du cylindre et l'axe longitudinal de la culasse, fasse avec l'axe longitudinal de la culasse, un angle de 10° à 80°.
Description
Moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé
La présente invention est relative aux moteurs à combustion interne à allumage commandé comportant pour chaque cylindre une soupape d' admission et une soupape d' échappement. L ' invention est plus particulièrement relative à la forme de la chambre de combustion.
Dans ce type de moteur à combustion interne, il convient de choisir une géométrie de chambre de combustion qui soit à la fois optimisée en termes de combustion et en termes d ' aérodynamique pour ce qui est de l ' admission et de l ' échappement.
La demande de brevet j aponais JP 07 158 452 (Kubota) décrit une culasse pour moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé dans lequel la chambre de combustion présente une surface destinée à générer un effet dit de « chasse » ou de « squish » de façon à créer des turbulences du mélange admis dans la chambre de combustion afin d' augmenter la vitesse de combustion.
La demande de brevet j aponais JP 57 203 8 1 8 (Nissan Motor) prévoit également, pour un moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé, une zone de « chasse » dans la chambre de combustion. Un mouvement tourbillonnaire dit de « swirl » des gaz d' admission, c ' est- à-dire un tourbillon engendré autour d'un axe sensiblement confondu ou parallèle à l ' axe du cylindre, est généré par un clapet disposé dans le conduit d' admission à l ' extérieur de la chambre de combustion.
La demande de brevet j aponais JP 58 1 17 3 15 (Toyota Motor) prévoit de générer à la fois un effet tourbillonnaire de « swirl » ainsi qu'un effet de « chasse » ou de « squish » au moyen d'une géométrie particulière d'une zone de chasse et d'une augmentation de la courbure de la surface interne de la chambre de combustion.
La demande de brevet européen 225 980 (Ford Motor) suggère de rendre la chambre de combustion plus compacte afin d ' améliorer le mélange admis dans la chambre de combustion. A cet effet, une zone de « chasse » est prévue dans la chambre de combustion à l ' opposé de la bougie d ' allumage et une protubérance est disposée à l ' intérieur de
la chambre de combustion sur une partie de la périphérie de l ' orifice d' admission de façon à générer un effet tourbillonnaire de « swirl » .
Une zone de « chasse » prévue dans une chambre de combustion génère un mouvement tourbillonnaire dit de « tumble » qui est un mouvement de rotation des gaz selon un axe perpendiculaire à l ' axe de translation du piston à l 'intérieur du cylindre. Il y a lieu de noter que, pour favoriser la combustion, il peut être important de générer un tel mouvement tourbillonnaire de type « tumble » tout en conservant un mouvement tourbillonnaire de type « swirl », c ' est-à- dire une rotation autour d'un axe parallèle à celui qui définit le mouvement de « tumble » . Mais il est également nécessaire de conserver une perméabilité suffisante du mélange admis dans la chambre de combustion, afin d' assurer des performances convenables au moteur et une bonne combustion du mélange admis dans la chambre de combustion. Il y a lieu de noter en outre que pour un tel moteur à combustion à deux soupapes par cylindre, la génération d'un mouvement tourbillonnaire de type « swirl » à l ' échappement permet d' obtenir un gain en termes de combustion par une augmentation de la dilution aux faibles charges . En effet, l ' aérodynamique qui en résulte dans la chambre de combustion et qui provoque ces mouvements turbulents au moment de l ' allumage, permet de bénéficier de vitesses de combustion plus importantes, notamment aux faibles charges, accroissant ainsi le potentiel de dilution avec des gaz brûlés résiduels se trouvant dans la chambre de combustion, ce qui se traduit directement par un gain en matière de consommation en carburant.
La génération de ces mouvements tourbillonnaires par une conformation particulière du conduit d ' admission créant par exemple des décollements de l ' écoulement par rapport à la paroi du conduit, a tendance à diminuer la perméabilité, c ' est-à-dire la capacité de ce conduit à laisser passer le flux d ' admission. Il est donc nécessaire de concevoir une chambre de combustion qui permette d' aboutir à un compromis entre les écoulements tourbillonnaires de type « tumble » et de type « swirl » d'une part, et la perméabilité, d ' autre part.
La présente invention a pour obj et de résoudre ce type de difficulté au moyen d'une géométrie particulière de la chambre de combustion.
Dans un mode de réalisation, un moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé comporte, pour chaque cylindre, une soupape d' admission et une soupape d' échappement, capables d' obturer et de dégager un orifice d' admission et un orifice d' échappement débouchant dans une chambre de combustion ménagée dans la culasse du moteur. Un bord de « chasse » délimite d'un côté la chambre de combustion. La chambre de combustion ne présente, du côté opposé au bord de « chasse » , aucune protubérance autour de l ' orifice d' admission.
Le bord de « chasse » fait un angle avec l ' axe longitudinal de la culasse, de façon qu'une normale audit bord de « chasse », issue du point d' intersection entre l ' axe du cylindre et l ' axe longitudinal de la culasse, fasse avec l ' axe longitudinal de la culasse, un angle de 10° à 80° .
De préférence, l ' orifice d' échappement est en partie intersecté par le bord de « chasse » .
Le bord de « chasse » présente avantageusement une forme interne concave dirigée vers l ' axe du cylindre.
De préférence, le bord de « chasse » se raccorde avec la périphérie de la chambre de combustion, du côté de l ' orifice d' admission, selon une portion arrondie ayant un rayon de courbure de 3 à 8 mm.
De préférence également, le bord de « chasse » se raccorde avec la périphérie de la chambre de combustion, du côté de l ' orifice d' échappement, selon une portion arrondie ayant un rayon de courbure de 10 à 25 mm.
La paroi de la chambre de combustion à l ' endroit du bord de « chasse » est avantageusement inclinée par rapport à la direction de l ' axe du cylindre selon un angle de 25 ° à 50° .
Grâce à cette géométrie de la chambre de combustion, le bord de « chasse » crée dans la chambre de combustion un mur, proche de
l ' orifice d' échappement, qui est favorable à la génération d 'un effet tourbillonnant de « swirl » par l ' échappement. Ce mouvement améliore la dilution et permet un gain de consommation en carburant, notamment aux faibles charges.
On peut également, avec une telle géométrie de chambre de combustion, générer à la fois un mouvement de type « tumble » et un mouvement de type « swirl » tout en conservant une perméabilité suffisante pour assurer un maintien des performances du moteur et une bonne combustion.
L 'invention sera mieux comprise à l ' étude de la description détaillée d'un mode de réalisation pris à titre d' exemple nullement limitatif, et illustré par les dessins annexés, sur lesquels :
la figure 1 est une vue en coupe longitudinale schématique d 'une chambre à combustion et de la partie supérieure d'un cylindre de moteur à combustion interne, montrant également les conduits d' admission et d' échappement ;
la figure 2 illustre en vue de dessus la chambre de combustion et la construction géométrique du bord de chasse ainsi que les rayons de raccordement avec la périphérie de la chambre de combustion ;
la figure 3 est une vue de dessus de la chambre de combustion de la figure 1 ; et
la figure 4 est une vue en coupe selon IV-IV de la figure 3 .
Les figures illustrent un exemple de réalisation d 'une chambre de combustion pour un moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé. Le moteur comporte plusieurs cylindres tels que le cylindre 1 illustré sur la figure 1 , pratiqué dans un bloc moteur 2 et à l ' intérieur duquel peut se déplacer un piston non représenté. Les cylindres peuvent être au nombre de trois ou quatre et être alignés selon un axe de symétrie longitudinal du bloc moteur. Dans d' autres cas, le moteur peut comporter six ou encore huit cylindres qui peuvent
être disposés selon deux rangées parallèles à l'axe longitudinal du bloc moteur.
Une culasse 3 est montée au dessus du bloc moteur 2, la culasse 3 comportant des zones en creux en nombre égal au nombre de cylindres, chacune des zones en creux définissant une chambre de combustion 4. La culasse 3 définit également un conduit d'admission 5 et un conduit d'échappement 7. Le conduit d'admission 5, qui peut être de section quelconque, notamment circulaire ou carrée, comporte une partie principale 5a légèrement inclinée par rapport à l'horizontale comme on peut le voir sur la figure 1, et qui se termine par une portion d'extrémité 5b en communication avec un orifice d'admission de forme circulaire visible schématiquement sur la figure 2 et référencé 6.
Le conduit d'échappement 7 est de forme similaire au conduit d'admission 5, mais dirigé à l'opposé. Il comporte également une partie principale 7a et une partie d'extrémité 7b débouchant sur un orifice d'échappement 8 représenté schématiquement sur la figure 2. Une soupape d'admission 9 d'axe 9a peut être commandée de façon à obturer ou dégager l'orifice d'admission 6. Une soupape d'échappement 10 d'axe 10a, permet quant à elle d'obturer et de dégager l'orifice d'échappement 8. Un orifice 10b visible sur les figures 2 et 3 permet en outre le montage d'une bougie d'allumage non représentée, qui débouche dans la chambre de combustion 4.
La chambre de combustion 4 est délimitée sur un de ses côtés par un bord de « chasse » 11. A l'endroit de ce bord de « chasse » 11, le cylindre 1 ne débouche donc pas dans la chambre de combustion 4 comme on peut le voir sur la figure 3.
Le bord de « chasse » 11 est positionné dans la chambre de combustion 4 par rapport aux deux orifices d'admission 6 et d'échappement 8, comme illustré sur la construction géométrique de la figure 2. L'axe longitudinal de la culasse noté X-X, coupe l'axe de symétrie du cylindre 1 au point noté « O » sur la figure 2. Si on trace à partir de point « O » une normale à la trace du bord de « chasse » 11 sur le plan qui sépare la chambre de combustion 4 du cylindre 1, on obtient une droite « ODi » sur la figure 2. Cette droite fait avec l'axe
« OX » un angle i qui définit la position du bord de « chasse » 11. Cet angle est, de préférence, de 10° à 80°, les limites étant comprises dans cette gamme.
Dans l'exemple illustré sur la figure 2, l'angle i est sensiblement égal à 10°. On a également illustré sur la figure 2, la droite OD2 qui fait avec la droite OX un angle a2 égal à 80°. Le bord de chasse correspondant n'est pas représenté. On notera que la droite Y-Y joignant les centres des orifices d'admission 6 et d'échappement 8 forme quant à elle avec l'axe OX un angle d'environ 50°.
Dans ces conditions, le bord de « chasse » 11, situé d'un côté de la droite Y-Y, à l'opposé de l'orifice 10b destiné à la bougie d'allumage, se trouve proche de l'orifice d'échappement 8. Dans l'exemple illustré, l'orifice d'échappement 8 est en partie intersecté par le bord de chasse 11 dans la zone lia de celui-ci, qui se trouve remplacé à cet endroit par l'orifice d'échappement 8, comme on le voit également sur la figure 3.
Le raccordement du bord de chasse 11 avec la périphérie de la chambre de combustion 4, se fait par des portions arrondies. Du côté de l'orifice d'admission 6, le rayon de courbure Ri de cette portion arrondie est de préférence de 3 à 8 mm. Du côté de l'orifice d'échappement 8, le rayon de courbure R2 de cette portion arrondie est de préférence de 10 à 25 mm. On notera que dans tous les cas, les valeurs extrêmes de ces gammes font partie de l'invention.
La paroi de la chambre de combustion 4, à l'endroit du bord de chasse 11 présente une inclinaison que l'on voit en particulier sur la figure 4. La paroi du bord de chasse 11 fait avec une droite parallèle à l'axe de symétrie du cylindre 1, un angle β qui est de 25 à 50°. Dans l'exemple illustré sur la figure 4, l'angle β est égal à 50°.
Grâce à cette géométrie, le flux des gaz d'admission en provenance du conduit de l'admission 5 et traversant l'orifice d'admission 6 est guidé vers la paroi inclinée du bord de chasse 11, produisant un mouvement tourbillonnaire de « swirl » vers l'orifice d'échappement 8. Cet écoulement tourbillonnaire est illustré de manière schématique par la flèche F sur la figure 3. Un mouvement
tourbillonnaire de type « tumble », c'est-à-dire en rotation selon un axe perpendiculaire à l'axe du piston et de la chambre de combustion est également généré par cette géométrie particulière du bord de chasse 11.
Le fait que la chambre de combustion 4 ne présente, du côté opposé au bord de chasse 11, aucune protubérance autour de l'orifice d'admission 6 autre que celle qui entoure l'orifice de montage 10b de la bougie d'allumage, fait que le mouvement tourbillonnaire de « swirl » n'est pas perturbé, tandis que la rotation de l'écoulement autour d'un axe perpendiculaire est favorisé afin de générer un mouvement de type « tumble ».
Le bord de « chasse » 11, disposé comme il vient d'être indiqué, se trouve éloigné de l'orifice d'admission 6, dégageant ainsi au mieux la soupape d'admission 9, ce qui favorise la perméabilité. Au contraire, le bord de chasse 11 étant rapproché de l'orifice d'échappement 8, qu'il peut même en partie intersecter, crée un mur pour le flux des gaz provenant de l'orifice d'admission 6, améliorant ainsi le mouvement tourbillonnaire de « swirl » par l'échappement, ce qui est favorable à la dilution, en particulier aux faibles charges.
Claims
1. Moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé comportant, pour chaque cylindre, une soupape d'admission (9) et une soupape d'échappement (10) capables d'obturer et de dégager un orifice d'admission (6) et un orifice d'échappement (8) débouchant dans une chambre de combustion (4) ménagée dans la culasse du moteur, un bord de « chasse » (11) délimitant d'un côté la chambre de combustion (4), caractérisé par le fait que la chambre de combustion (4) ne présente, du côté opposé au bord de « chasse » (11), aucune protubérance autour de l'orifice d'admission, le bord de « chasse » faisant un angle avec l'axe longitudinal de la culasse, de façon qu'une normale audit bord de « chasse », issue du point d'intersection entre l'axe du cylindre et l'axe longitudinal de la culasse, fasse avec l'axe longitudinal de la culasse, un angle de 10° à 80°.
2. Moteur à combustion interne selon la revendication 1 dans lequel l'orifice d'échappement (8) est en partie intersecté par le bord de « chasse » (11).
3. Moteur à combustion interne selon l'une des revendications précédentes dans lequel le bord de « chasse » (11) présente une forme interne concave dirigée vers l'axe du cylindre.
4. Moteur à combustion interne selon l'une des revendications précédentes dans lequel le bord de « chasse » (11) se raccorde avec la périphérie de la chambre de combustion du côté de l'orifice d'admission selon une portion arrondie ayant un rayon de courbure de 3 à 8 mm.
5. Moteur à combustion interne selon l'une des revendications précédentes dans lequel le bord de « chasse » (11) se raccorde avec la périphérie de la chambre de combustion du côté de l'orifice d'échappement selon une portion arrondie ayant un rayon de courbure de 10 à 25 mm.
6. Moteur à combustion interne selon l'une des revendications précédentes dans lequel la paroi de la chambre de combustion à l'endroit du bord de « chasse » est inclinée par rapport à la direction de l'axe du cylindre selon un angle de 25° à 50°.
7. Moteur à combustion interne selon l'une des revendications précédentes dans lequel la bougie d'allumage est montée dans la chambre de combustion du côté opposé au bord de « chasse ».
