Abstract
An in- shelf illumination system for a refrigerator transfers power to the shelves ( 16 ) by inductive coupling between a localized primary coil ( 20 ) in a wall of the refrigerator and a corresponding secondary coil ( 22 ) on the shelf. High frequency synthesized power permits reduced coil areas localized for each shelf. In some embodiments, localized coils ( 20, 22 ) may be implemented through planar printed circuit board coils on the same circuit boards as the associated coil driving and receiving circuitry.
