Abstract
Description
図1は、表示システム100を構成する各装置の概略的な関係を示した説明図である。表示システム100は、表示装置110と、偏光眼鏡120とを含んで構成される。表示装置110は、例えば、放送電波を通じて放送局112から、もしくは、インターネット、LAN、専用回線等の通信網114を通じてサーバ装置116から、または、DVD、BD、USBメモリといった記憶媒体118から、両眼視差による立体映像を知覚させるための立体映像データ(右眼用映像データと左眼用映像データ)を取得し、装置自体に搭載された液晶パネルに表示する。偏光眼鏡120には、偏光フィルタが設けられている。観察者は、偏光眼鏡120を装着することによって、表示装置110で表示される右眼用映像データと左眼用映像データとを、右眼および左眼でそれぞれ視認して、両眼視差による立体映像を知覚することができる。以下、表示装置110を構成する各機能部について説明し、その後、当該表示装置110を用いた表示方法を詳述する。
図2は、表示装置110の概略的な機能を示した機能ブロック図である。図2に示すように、表示装置110は、データ取得部150と、フレームメモリ152と、表示データ生成部154と、表示制御部156と、液晶パネル158と、赤外線通信部160と、バックライトユニット162と、バックライト制御部164と、操作部166とを含んで構成される。
次に、上述した表示装置110を用いて、表示データを表示する表示方法を説明する。
上述した実施形態においては、液晶パネル158に偏光特性が異なる偏光フィルタを固定し、偏光眼鏡120の右眼窓と左眼窓とにおける偏光フィルタの偏光特性を動的に切り換えたが、偏光眼鏡120の偏光フィルタを固定し、液晶パネル158の奇数ライン(第1表示領域に対応する映像データ)と偶数ライン(第2表示領域に対応する映像データ)における偏光フィルタの偏光特性を動的に切り換えることもできる。

Claims (8)
- 複数の映像表示ラインを有する液晶パネルと、
前記液晶パネルに入力映像信号の第1フィールドデータと、前記第1フィールドデータとは内容が異なり、時系列的に次のフィールドデータである第2フィールドデータとからなる表示データを走査方式で表示させる表示制御部と、
前記液晶パネルの背面側に配置され、走査方向に対応して区画された、前記液晶パネルにおける複数の領域それぞれに照射する光を発光する複数の光源を有するバックライトユニットと、
前記表示制御部による前記第1フィールドデータの走査時間および第2フィールドデータの走査時間より短い遷移時間で前記複数の光源における消灯状態と発光状態とを遷移させるバックライト制御部と、
を備えることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記バックライト制御部は、前記複数の光源のうちの前記液晶パネルの映像表示ラインにおける先頭ラインに対応する光源の発光開始タイミングを、時系列的に1つ前のフィールドデータの表示終了タイミングに基づいて決定し、前記液晶パネルの映像表示ラインにおける最終ラインに対応する光源の発光終了タイミングを、時系列的に次のフィールドデータの表示開始タイミングに基づいて決定することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記バックライト制御部は、各光源それぞれの発光時間を等しくすることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記液晶パネルは、所定の偏光特性を有する第1表示領域と、前記第1表示領域と偏光特性の異なる第2表示領域とを有し、
両眼視差による立体映像を知覚させるための右眼用映像データと左眼用映像データとを取得するデータ取得部と、
取得された前記右眼用映像データと前記左眼用映像データとを保持するフレームメモリと、
前記右眼用映像データにおける前記第1表示領域に対応する映像データおよび前記左眼用映像データにおける前記第2表示領域に対応する映像データを組み合わせて得られる前記第1フィールドデータと、前記右眼用映像データにおける前記第2表示領域に対応する映像データおよび前記左眼用映像データにおける前記第1表示領域に対応する映像データを組み合わせて得られる前記第2フィールドデータとを交互に配置して前記表示データを生成する表示データ生成部と、
をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。 - 前記第1表示領域および前記第2表示領域は、一方が前記液晶パネルの映像表示ラインにおける奇数ラインであり、他方が映像表示ラインにおける偶数ラインであることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示データ生成部は、前記第1フィールドデータおよび前記第2フィールドデータのいずれか一方のみから表示データを生成することを特徴とする請求項4または5に記載の表示装置。
- 複数の映像表示ラインを有する液晶パネルに、入力映像信号の第1フィールドデータと、前記第1フィールドデータとは内容が異なり、時系列的に次のフィールドデータである第2フィールドデータとからなる前記表示データを走査方式で表示させ、
前記液晶パネルの背面側に配置され、走査方向に対応して区画された、前記液晶パネルにおける複数の領域それぞれに照射する光を発光する複数の光源を有するバックライトユニットを、前記表示データの走査時間より短い遷移時間で前記複数の光源における消灯状態と発光状態とを遷移させるように制御する
ことを特徴とする表示方法。 - 前記液晶パネルは、所定の偏光特性を有する第1表示領域と、前記第1表示領域と偏光特性の異なる第2表示領域とを有し、
両眼視差による立体映像を知覚させるための右眼用映像データと左眼用映像データとを取得し、
前記右眼用映像データにおける前記第1表示領域に対応する映像データおよび前記左眼用映像データにおける前記第2表示領域に対応する映像データを組み合わせて得られる前記第1フィールドデータと、前記右眼用映像データにおける前記第2表示領域に対応する映像データおよび前記左眼用映像データにおける前記第1表示領域に対応する映像データを組み合わせて得られる前記第2フィールドデータとを交互に配置して前記表示データを生成することを特徴とする請求項7に記載の表示方法。
