Therefore, the calcium and magnesium ions are provided to be removed and to be enriched with sodium ions again by keeping the ion exchanger in a salt solution (for example NaCI) or by the capacitive deionization method. This process is called regeneration. It is important to make the regeneration process properly so that the ion exchanger can soften the water. Sensors are used in the technique for performing the regeneration process in the correct frequency.

- the calcium and magnesium ions are provided to be separated from the ions supplied by the regeneration unit (5) and to be enriched with the sodium ions again. This process is called regeneration.
- the washing machine (1 ) comprises a control unit (7) that actuates the regeneration process in accordance with the data received from the sensor (6). Under normal work conditions, the sensor (6), delivers data to the control unit (7) at the start of each washing process about whether or not the regeneration process will be performed.
