Description
Description
A LAUNDRY DRYER COMPRISING AN INTEGRATED PLASTIC BASE UNIT
[0001] The present invention relates to a laundry dryer comprising an integrated base unit produced from plastic material.
[0002] In laundry dryers, the drying air moved by a blower is heated by a heater that is generally disposed in a drying duct situated on the rear wall of the body and is delivered into the drum. The drying air blower operates in a spiral shaped blower housing which is positioned at the lower side of the drum and which forms a portion of the base unit produced from plastic material in one piece. The air sucked by the blower from the outside and delivered to the drying duct from the outlet of the blower housing is passed over the heater disposed in the drying duct on the upper side of the blower housing. Lints are present in the air circulating in the drying cycle and there is a chance of fire hazard for the lints passing over the heater. The base unit is susceptible to fire since it is entirely produced from plastic material. Therefore, producing the base unit from a nonflammable or flame resistant material can be considered, however the cost of materials with flame resistant features is quite high.
[0003] In the German Patent Applications No. DE3135292, DE10202442 and DE10346107, in the United States Patent Application No. US200907130 and the United States Patent Application No. US7506458, laundry dryers are explained comprising plastic integrated base unit that is installed at the lower side of the drum and that supports the condenser, the drum motor and the blowers used in the drying process.
[0004] The aim of the present invention is to realize a laundry dryer that is
protected against fire and that comprises integrated base unit produced from plastic material.
[0005] The laundry dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present
invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises an insulating panel produced from nonflammable or flame resistant material, fixed to the blower housing and covering the inner surface of the blower housing partially or entirely. The insulating panel protects the blower housing wherein lints are collected and pose fire
hazard and hence the base unit, whereto the blower housing is connected, against flames.
[0006] In an embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel is
produced by shaping a rectangular iron sheet in arc shaped and covers the lower part of the blower housing inner surface corresponding to the projection of the heater in the vertical direction.
[0007] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel is produced from flame resistant plastic material and is shaped arc form in a plastic injection mold.
[0008] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel is produced from flame resistant plastic material and is shaped in spiral form so as to entirely cover the inner surface of the blower housing.
[0009] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel has fastening claws that provide the insulating panel to be fixed easily to the blower housing with snap-fit method by pushing from the front.
[0010] In another embodiment of the present invention, a water discharge hole is disposed at the lower side of the blower housing inner surface providing the water collected during the drying cycle to be discharged and the insulating panel is fixed to the blower housing with a protrusion that is seated in the water discharge hole having an opening at the center thereof which is almost concentric with the water discharge hole.
[001 1] In another embodiment of the present invention, ribs are disposed on the insulating panel, that prevent the insulating panel from being deformed by strengthening the structure thereof.
[0012] In another embodiment of the present invention, a recess is disposed in the blower housing that is formed by cutting out the inner surface thereof as much as the wall thickness of the insulating panel and which provides the insulating panel to be seated onto the inner surface of the blower housing without making a protrusion. In this embodiment, the insulating panel comprises bent edges of flexible configuration, bearing against the inner wall of the recess and formed by bending the end portions of the sides almost 90 degrees.
[0013] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel is
produced from plastic material and is fixed to the blower housing by vibration welding.
[0014] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel is produced from plastic material and is fixed to the blower housing by hot-setting adhesion.
[0015] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating material is produced from aluminum folio.
[0016] In the laundry dryer of the present invention, instead of producing the entire base unit from high cost flame resistant material in order to protect the fire susceptible plastic base unit, only the blower housing having the highest fire hazard due to accumulation of lints, is protected and cost advantage is provided.
[0017] The laundry dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present
invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
[0018] Figure 1 - is the sideways perspective view of a laundry dryer.
[0019] Figure 2 - is the rear perspective view of a laundry dryer.

[0034] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel (10) comprises more than one fastening claw (1 1 ) providing the insulating panel (10) to be fixed to the blower housing (8) by pushing from the front with snap-fit method (Figure 8).
[0035] In another embodiment of the present invention, the the insulating panel (10) comprises a water discharge hole (12) disposed at the bottom side of the blower housing (8) inner surface, providing the water collected during the drying cycle to be discharged and a protrusion (13), seated in the water discharge hole (12) produced by deep drawn method and having an opening (17) at the center thereof that is almost concentric with the water discharge hole (12) (Figure 5). The insulating panel (10) is fixed to the blower housing (8) by means of the protrusion (13) seated in the water discharge hole (12). By means of the opening (17), the water collected in the blower housing (8) is allowed to pass to the water discharge hole (12),
furthermore the protrusion (13) extends into the water discharge hole (12) thereby providing a flame resistant insulation in this region also.
[0036] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel (10) comprises one or more ribs (14) that prevent deformation by strengthening the structure thereof (Figure 6, Figure 7, Figure 8).

prestressed manner (Figure 4, Figure 6). The flexibly configured bent edges (16) prevent the insulating panel (10) from creating vibrations and noise during the operation of the blower (4).
[0038] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel (10) is produced from plastic material and is fixed to the blower housing (8) by vibration welding.
[0039] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel (10) is produced from plastic material and is fixed to the blower housing (8) by hot-setting adhesion.
[0040] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insulating panel (10) is produced from aluminum folio.
