Abstract

The invention relates to a master cylinder for a hydraulic system, in particular for a clutch release device in the drive train of a motor vehicle, comprising a housing and a piston that can be moved axially in the housing, which piston bounds a pressure chamber that can be filled with pressure medium on a primary side of the master cylinder, which pressure chamber can be connected to a reservoir on a secondary side of the master cylinder by means of a connecting opening for balancing out pressure medium, wherein the connection to the reservoir can be activated or closed by the axial motion of the piston. According to the invention, means are provided on/in the piston, which means interact with corresponding means on/in the housing in such a way that a meterable activation of the connection to the reservoir can be set.
