Abstract
The invention relates to a brake system for motor vehicles having a plurality of operating modes, which brake system can be actuated both by the vehicle driver and also independently from the vehicle driver in a preferentially used "brake-by-wire" operating mode, and can be actuated only directly by the vehicle driver in a fall-back operating mode, having a pedal decoupling unit (2) and having an electrohydraulic pressure generating device (5). To permit an uninterrupted pressure build-up by the pressure generating device (5), it is provided according to the invention that the pressure generating device (5) comprises a double-acting piston-cylinder arrangement (30).
