Definitions
- This invention relates to an arrangement in connection with a partition device designed to be mounted in a vehicle, e.g. in a police car, wherein the arrangement includes a fastening means including a first mounting part designed to be fastened to the partition device and a second mounting part designed to be fastened to the vehicle body.
- a device for anchoring a partition in a vehicle is already known from GB 2 312 652, the device including an angle iron comprising a number of parts arranged at an angle of 90° relative to an adjacent part.
- One outermost part is fork-like and is designed to cooperate with locking pins for the back seat.
- Another outermost part of the angle iron is provided with a hole and a screw received in the hole anchors the partition .
- a partition device for vehicles is already known from
- the device including a partition and means for mounting the partition in the vehicle.
- the mounting means include bottom fasteners designed to be fastened to the rails for the front seats in the vehicle.
- the mounting means also include fastening means for fastening a vertical edge of the partition to the vehicle body, these fastening means
- this partition consisting of two parts and being made of fibreglass or plastic.
- the partition is fastened by means of bolts in holes already present in the body for the safety belts.
- a primary object of this invention is to provide an arrangement of the type defined hereinabove which includes a fastening means considerably facilitating the mounting of a partition device in a vehicle, e.g. a police vehicle.

- the partition device shown in Figures 1-3 includes a partition 1, preferably designed in one piece, mounted behind the front seats of the vehicle and directly connected to these front seats.
- the partition 1 is preferably made of a suitable plastic material, wherein polycarbonate may be mentioned by way of a non-limiting example.
- the partition 1 is provided at the top with a recess extending along the upper edge of the partition 1 and receiving a tubular element
- the partition 1 is provided with two fastening means 3 according to this
- these fastening means 3 being identical and being applied to the side edges 5 of the partition 1, said side edges 5 being substantially vertical when in use.
- fastening means 3 are applied to a lower part of the partition 1.
- a fastening means 3 includes a first mounting part 7 and a second mounting part 9, the mounting parts 7, 9 preferably being designed in one piece.
- the first mounting part 7 is plate-like according to the embodiment shown.
- the second mounting part 9 generally consists of a bent flat iron having a fork-like design at its end directed away from the first mounting part 7, i.e. two legs 10 which are preferably parallel define between them a recess 11.
- a first portion 12 of the second mounting part 9 situated adjacent to the first mounting part 7 extends transversely to the plane defined by the first plate-like mounting part 7.
- Fig. 2A and Fig. 3A show how the fastening means according to this invention is mounted.
- the second mounting part 9, in particular its fork-like end, is mounted first. It will be clear from Figures 2A and 3A that the fork-like end of the second mounting part 9 is mounted via a second screw 20 already present in the vehicle, forming the screw that anchors one end of a door stay bar 25 of the vehicle. It should be mentioned in this connection that, in principle, all vehicles available on the market have similar constructions with respect to the anchoring of door stay bars in the vehicle body.
- a door stay bar 25 is anchored in a pillar 26 of the body, referred to as the B-pillar.
- the door stay bar 25 is anchored by means of a connecting element 27 comprising a bottom portion 28 and two preferably parallel tongues 29 projecting from the bottom portion 28.
- the connecting element 27 is anchored in the pillar 26 by means of the second screw 20 extending through a hole in the bottom portion 28 and into a threaded hole in the pillar 26.
- the tongues 29 are provided in the region of their free ends with openings receiving a pin 30.
- One end of the door stay bar 25 is hinged to the pin 30, while the other end of the door stay bar 25 is received within the associated door 31.
- the second screw 20 When the second mounting part 9 is mounted, the second screw 20 is loosened and screwed out a few turns. The legs 10 of the fork-like end are pushed into the space thus formed between the head of the second screw 20 and the bottom portion 28 and the threaded shank 21 of the second screw 20 is received in the recess 11. When the second screw 20 is tightened, the legs 10 of the fork-like end are locked firmly between the head of the second screw 20 and the bottom portion 28 of the connecting element 27. It should be noted in this connection that the width of the fork-like end, i.e. the external dimensions between the legs 10, must not exceed the internal dimensions between the tongues 29 and that the recess 11 must define a width which is greater than the threaded shank 21 of the second screw 20.
- the partition 1 When the second mounting part 9 of the two fastening means 3 is mounted, the partition 1 is lifted into position and the first mounting part 7 of each fastening means 3 is connected to the partition 1.
- the first mounting part 7 is anchored in the edge portion 5 of the partition 1, this being effected by means of a first screw 15 received in a first hole in the partition 1 and also received in a second threaded hole in the first mounting part 7, the threaded part of the first screw 15 being brought into engagement with the second threaded hole.
- only one first screw 15 is used, but several first screws 15 may be used if necessary in order to obtain a satisfactory connection between the edge portion 5 of the partition 1 and the first mounting part 7.
- the first hole in the partition 1 may extend laterally to a certain degree so that the first screw 15 can be adjusted immediately in front of the second threaded hole. Only the anchoring of one fastening means 3 to the partition 1 is shown in Figures 1A-3A, but the other fastening means 3 is also anchored to the partition 1 in a corresponding manner.
- the partition 1 is mounted in a satisfactory manner.
- FIG. 3A it will be clear that when the door 31 is closed, its inside will be level with the broken line 6 of the side edges 5 (see Figures 1 and 2) . This means that the door in the closed position will cover the anchoring/screw connection between the first mounting part 7 and the partition 1, i.e. the screw connection will in principle be inaccessible during travel. This is a considerable advantage. Even once the door 31 is open, the partition 1 is thus mounted in a satisfactory manner.
- the connection between the partition 1 and the first mounting part 7 is released. This is effected by unscrewing the first screw 15 and is effected on both sides of the partition 1.
- the fastening means arranged at the top of the partition 1 are released in a similar manner and the partition 1 can thus be lifted out of the vehicle.
- the second screw 20 is loosened and the second mounting part 9 of the fastening means 3 is released. The fastening means 3 can thus be removed.
- the second screw 20 is tightened in order to achieve satisfactory anchoring of the door stay bar 25 in the pillar 26.
- Figures 4 and 4A show how a generally L-shaped clamp 35 is fastened by means of one end 36 to a lower intermediate portion of the partition 1 and is fastened by means of its other end 37 to a centre bracket 38 of the vehicle.
- the ends of the clamp 35 can be fastened, e.g. by means of screws or in another suitable manner.
- Fig. 5 shows how a mounting bar 40 provided with a number of bends is fastened by means of one end 41 to a lower intermediate portion of the partition 1, while the other end 42 of the mounting bar 40 extends under the back seat (not shown) , the other end being anchored in the vehicle body.
- the ends 41, 42 of the mounting bar 40 can be fastened/anchored, e.g. by means of screws or in another suitable manner.
