Abstract

The invention relates to a method for operating a cogeneration plant and to a cogeneration plant according to the preamble of claims 1 and 6. In order to be able to further increase the actual efficiency during the conversion of heat into electricity, a direct-fired piston engine is directly coupled to a generator (5) or is coupled thereto as a primary power generation process operated as an internal combustion engine (30), and the waste heat generated by the piston engine (20) or the internal combustion engine (30) is converted using a low-temperature organic Rankine cycle comprising an expansion engine (4) that is coupled to the same, thus common, generator (5).
