Abstract

본 발명은 움직임 벡터 결정 장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 움직임 벡터 결정 장치는, 현재 블록과 동일위치에 있는 블록으로서 참조 픽처에 포함된 동일위치블록을 식별하는 블록 식별부; 동일위치블록의 움직임 벡터에 기초하여 현재 블록이 움직임 블록인지 여부를 판별하는 움직임 블록 판별부; 판별 결과에 따라 현재 블록의 움직임 벡터를 결정하는 움직임 벡터 결정부; 및 동일위치블록의 움직임 벡터의 해상도를 변환하는 해상도 변환부를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다. 본 발명에 따르면, 영상 영역 또는 움직임 벡터마다 움직임 벡터 해상도가 결정된다. 영상에 적응적으로 결정된 움직임 벡터 해상도를 갖는 움직임 벡터를 이용하여 인터 예측 부호화 또는 복호화가 수행된다. 또한, 본 발명에 의하면, 영상을 소정의 영역 단위로 움직임 벡터 해상도를 적응적으로 변경하여 인터 예측 부호화함으로써, 영상을 효율적으로 부호화할 수 있다.
