Abstract

The present invention to provide a rear combination assembly structure, which is very easy to mount and also improve the fitment of the style parts which is in and around the vicinity of the rear combination lamp thereby improving the fit and finish of the assembly. The said assembly structure assembly structure comprises of the following: a. Tail covers left and right; b. Tail cover centre; c. Mounting bracket with mounting holes; and d. Rear combination lamp.

Description

REAR COMBINATION ASSEMBLY STRUCTURE
FTELD OF INVENTION This invention relates to a rear cover of a step through motorcycle and in particular relates to a Rear combination assembly structure.
PRIORART A rear combination lamp in a motorcycle is located in the rear portion of the vehicle behind the rear end of the pillion rider. Generally they are located at the extreme end of the vehicle to glow whenever the brake is applied or whenever the lamps are switched on. Other function of the rear combination lamp is to glow at left or right side to give indication for turning of vehicle about to be taken by rider.
Rear Combination Lamp is generally fitted to the extreme end of the rear part of the frame by known means of fastening by a pair of brackets rigidly. The rear combination lamp is surrounded by tail covers located below the seat and is bridged by a center piece located above the rear combination lamp.
Rear Combination lamps are made integrally with three portions to have left, right indication lamp and a brake cum night illumination lamp.
In the known type of conventional step through motorcycles, the rear combination lamp is assembled independent of style parts or covers onto the frame member. Subsequently the style covers are mounted onto the frame structure covering the side portion of the rear combination lamp. The independent assembly of the parts results in uneven gap between the style covers and rear combination lap causing these members to. overlap each or sit with uneven gap. This results in rattling of parts thereby causing vibration and noise. Further this will also give poor aesthetic appeal to the customer. Hence the objective of the invention is to overcome the above problems associated with the prior art SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a rear combination assembly structure, which is very easy to mount and which also improves the fitment of the style parts, which is in and around the vicinity of the rear combination lamp thereby improving the fit and finish of the assembly.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a rear combination assembly structure, which is cheaper to produce and easy to assemble in the production line.

Any known motorcycle, as illustrated in Fig. 1, can be divided into three major portions, the front portion F, the middle portion M and the rear/tail portion R. The front portion F comprises of the steering, front wheel with necessary brakes 1, front suspension 2, fender 3, and side cover 4; the middle portion M comprises of the step through portion 5, rider seat 6, stand 7, engine 8, gear shift lever 9 etc; and the rear/tail portion R comprises of petrol tank 10, swinging arm 11, back wheel and suspension 12 and rear fender 13.
This invention will now be described with reference to Figs. 2 to 21. As shown in Fig. 2, the tail/rear cover of a motorcycle comprises of a tail cover right 14, tail cover left 15 and tail cover center 16. A frame mounting bracket 17 is assembled onto the rear combination lamp 20 and the said bracket is provided with mounting holes 18 and 19 to clamp the entire assembly consisting of tail cover left, tail cover right, tail cover center and rear combination lamp on to the rear part of the frame Fl (Shown in Figure 1). Fig. 3 illustrates the tail cover left 15 along with rear combination lamp 20.
In conventional motorcycles, the rear combination lamp 20 is directly mounted to the vehicle frame. However, in the present invention the rear combination lamp 20 is placed below the tail cover centre 16 but connected to all the parts i.e. the tail cover left 15, tail cover right 14 , tail cover centre 16 and bracket 17 and is not directly mounted to the rear part of the frame Fl. The rear combination lamp 20 of the present invention is a lamp provided in the rear portion of the vehicle for facilitating illumination. In Fig. 3A, letters A and D indicate the front and rear sides of the tail cover centre 16 respectively. Mounting boss 21 and 22 are provided on the tail cover center portion 16 so as to connect the tail cover center to the mounting bracket 17. Three Slots 23, 25 and 26 are provided on right side of the tail cover center 16 and slots 24, 27 and 28 are provided on the other side to enable connection with the right and left side covers 14 and 15. Two of the slots i.e. 25, 26, 27 and 28 are placed on the overlap extensions (Right and Left) 14A and 15 A of the tail cover center. Figs. 13 and 14 also illustrate the tail cover centre 16 (top and rear views) showing the slots 23 and 24 provided on the tail cover center 16 to connect it to the respective tail covers right and left. Fig. 4 shows the rear view of the rear combination lamp 20 with tail cover right 14, tail cover left 15, tail cover center 16 and the frame mounting bracket 17. Fig. 5 shows the front view of the rear combination lamp 20 along the tail cover right 14, tail cover left 15, tail cover center 16. Fig. 6 shows the perspective view of tail cover left 14, tail cover right 15 , tail cover centre 16 with Rear combination Lamp 20 and frame mounting bracket 17 whereas fig. 7 shows the rear combination lamp 20 along with tail cover right 14 and with the tail cover center 16 and tail cover left 15 removed. This view shows the frame mounting bracket 17 provided with two mounting holes 18 and 19 to enable clamping of the entire assembly of tail cover right 14, tail cover left 15, tail cover center 16 and rear combination lamp 20 on to the rear part of the frame Fl.
The rear combination lamp 20 as shown in fig. 8 is provided with two en-moulded steel bolts 21A and 22A and a locater i.e. rear combination mounting locator (RCML) 33. Two steel platenut shaped structures, A' and B' are provided on lowermost portion of the
Rear combination lamp 20 such that the said lamp gets attached to Ml provided on tail cover left 15 (fig.17) and corresponding part M2 provided on the tail cover right 14 (not shown in figure). Letters A, B, C and D are the. front, left, right and rear sides of the rear combination lamp. Fig. 9 shows the front view of the rear combination lamp 20. Fig. 10 shows the rear combination lamp as viewed from the left side along with the en-moulded steel bolt 22A, used to fix the frame mounting bracket 17 to the rear combination lamp 20. Similarly, Figs. 11 and 12 show the rear and top views of the rear combination lamp 20 along with the two en-moulded steel bolts 21 A and 22A. As shown in figure 13 and 14, tail cover centre 16, locates itself with the tail cover left 15 and tail cover right 14 through the corresponding lugs and slots provided in the tail cover left 15 and tail cover right 14 .
Fig. 15 shows the frame mounting bracket 17 provided with a pair of holes 18 and 19 to mount the assembly of tail cover left, tail cover right, tail cover center and rear combination lamp on to the rear part of the frame Fl. Reference numerals 31 and 32 are a pair of holes provided in the bracket 17 to accommodate the bosses SMl and SM2 viz. 21 and 22 provided in the tail lamp center. Two more holes 29 (RCMl) and 30 (RCM2) are provided in the bracket 17 in order to accommodate the steel bolts 21A and 22A of the rear combination lamp 20. The extended arm 34 of the bracket 17 gets located onto the rear combination mounting locator 33 of the rear combination lamp 20.
Fig. 16 shows the side view of the tail cover center 16 with the mounting boss SMl 21. Fig. 17 shows the side view of the tail cover left 15 with additional mounting points 35 and Ml to mount it to the cover main pipe lower (Cover main pipe not shown in drawings). Also Fig. 18 shows the top view of the tail cover left 15 with another locater 36 for locating onto the rear part of frame Fl.
Fig. 19 illustrates the inner view of the tail cover left 15 where 4OA is the protruding portion of the said cover left, which together with the mounting boss 21 of the tail cover center attaches itself to the rear part of the frame through hole 19 provided in the frame mounting bracket 17. Three locators namely 24A, 27A and 28A provided in tail cover left 15 locates itself in the slots 24, 27 and 28 provided in the tail cover center 16. The projection Ml which is in the lower most portion of the tail cover left 15 is also provided with a hole. Similarly, the tail cover right 14 has locaters 23A, 25A and 26A and corresponding projecting members 4OB and M2 (inside view of tail cover right 14 is not shown).
Figs. 20 and 21 illustrate the rear and the front view of the tail cover left respectively. hi order to assemble the above rear combination lamp structure, first the frame mounting bracket 17 is fitted on to the Rear combination lamp 20 separately, such that the enmoulded steel bolts 21A and 22A of the rear combination lamp 20 pass through the mounting holes 29 and 30 provided in bracket 17. The extended arm 34 of the frame mounting bracket 17 enters into the Rear combination mounting locater 33 provided on the rear combination lamp 20.
In another assembly, the tail cover left 15 is fitted to the tail cover center 16 by means of locaters 24A , 27A and 28A (provided in 15, see Fig. 19) which enter the corresponding slots 24, 27 and 28 provided on tail cover centre 16. Similarly, the tail cover right 14 is fitted to the tail cover center 16 through corresponding slots 23, 25 and 26 provided on tail cover centre 16 and locaters 23A , 25A and 26A provided on tail cover right 14 (not shown in figure), hi this process, the bosses SMl 21 and SM2 22 provided on the tail cover center 16 locates itself on 4OA (Fig. 19) and 40B (corresponding part provided on tail cover right, not shown in figure) of Tail cover left 15 and Tail cover right 14 respectively.
This arrangement and assembly of the tail covers creates a space C (Fig. 17) into which the rear combination lamp 20 is inserted as described above.
Next, the whole assembly of the Tail covers left 15 and right 14 and Tail cover center 16 is mounted on to the preassembled Rear combination lamp 20 and mounting bracket 17 through mounting holes 31 and 32 provided in bracket 17 and is fastened by means of two screws.
A' and B' provided on the Rear combination lamp 20 are attached to Ml provided on tail cover left 15 (Fig. 17) and corresponding part M2 provided on the tail cover right 14 (not shown in figure) respectively thereby attaching the rear combination lamp 20 to the assembly of tail covers.
The entire assembly of parts which include the Rear combination lamp 20, Tail cover left 14, Tail cover right 15, Tail cover centre 16 is then assembled onto the rear part of the frame Fl of the vehicle ( Figure 1) through corresponding holes 18 and 19 provided in the frame mounting bracket 17.

Claims:
1. Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle comprising: a. Tail covers left and right;
b. Tail cover centre;
c. Mounting bracket with mounting holes; and
d. Rear combination lamp.
2. The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 1 wherein the tail cover left has an elongated tapering structure made of polymer and is provided with three locators (24A, 27A, 28A) and two projecting members 4OA and Ml to enable connection to the other parts.
3. The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 1 wherein the tail cover right has identical features of cover left.

The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 1 wherein the tail cover centre is provided with mounting bosses 21 and 22, slots 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 to enable connection to the other parts along with over lap extensions 14A and 15 A, said overlap extension enables fitment of the tail cover left /right.
5. The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 1 wherein the mounting bracket comprises of three pairs of holes and an extended arm.
6. The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 5 wherein one pair of holes 18 and 19 enables mounting of the assembly of tail cover left, tail cover right, tail cover centre and rear combination lamp on to the rear part of the frame Fl.
7. The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 5 wherein the second pair of holes 31 and 32 accommodates the bosses 21 and 22 of the tail cover centre.
8. The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 5 wherein the third pair of holes 29 and 30 accommodates the steel bolts 21 A and 22 A of the rear combination lamp 20.
9. The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 5 wherein the extended arm 34 gets located onto the rear combination mounting locator 33 of the rear combination lamp 20.

The Rear combination assembly structure for a step-through motorcycle as claimed in claim 1 wherein the rear combination lamp 20 is provided with two en- moulded steel bolts 21 A and 22 A, a locater i.e. rear combination mounting locator (RCML) 33 and two steel platenut shaped structures, A' and B' on lowermost portion of the said lamp 20 such that the lamp gets attached to projection Ml provided on tail cover left 15 (fig.17) and corresponding part M2 provided on the tail cover right 14.
11. A step-through motorcycle including a Rear combination assembly structure comprising:
a. Tail covers left and right;
b. Tail cover centre;
c. Mounting bracket with mounting holes; and
d. Rear combination lamp.
