Abstract

The invention relates to a method for heating lightweight metal ingots (1), the lightweight metal ingots (1) being heated in a furnace (2) by hot burner waste gases. In order to create advantageous conditions of heating, the lightweight metal ingots (1), before being heated in the furnace (2), are preheated by means of at least one preheating device (8) which rests flat on the ingots and which is supplied by a liquid heat transfer medium that is heated by heat exchange with the hot waste gases emitted by the furnace (2), said medium being circulated in a cycle (7).
