Abstract
A water-powered generating vessel, the vessel being buoyant in water, comprising a body (1), a waterwheel (2) rotatable supported in the body, the body having an inlet passage (3) from an inlet (4) in the exterior of the body (1) to the waterwheel (2) and an outlet passage (5) from the waterwheel (2) to an outlet (6) in the exterior of the body (1), and control means (8, 9) for controlling ingress of water through the inlet passage. Typically, the waterwheel (2) will be coupled to a generator (13) such that rotation of the waterwheel (2) by the flow of water therethrough will generate electricity. The control means may comprise variable ballast tanks (8, 9) whereby the level at which the vessel floats in the surrounding water can be controlled so as to control whether the inlet (4) is above or below water, or a control means (150) in the inlet passage, which controls the flow of water through the vessel.
