Abstract
Description
すなわち、本発明の一態様によれば、本発明の不揮発性液晶表示装置は、走査信号線群と前記走査線信号群に交差するデータ信号線群とこれらの信号線群が交差する位置に配された複数の画素回路とを含み、液晶層として不揮発性液晶化合物を含有する液晶表示パネルと、前記液晶表示パネルを駆動するための駆動手段と、前記駆動手段に電圧を供給するための電源手段と、前記液晶表示パネルに表示するための画像データを一時的に格納するビデオメモリと、前記ビデオメモリに格納されている画像データを順次前記液晶表示パネルへ転送する制御手段を備える。そして、前記制御手段が、前記転送中に新たな画像データを描画するための画像書換信号を受けた場合、前記駆動手段への電源供給を維持したまま前記転送をキャンセルし、前記新たな画像データの前記ビデオメモリへの格納を実行するように制御することを特徴とする。
また、本発明の一態様によれば、本発明の表示方法は、走査信号線群と前記走査線信号群に交差するデータ信号線群とこれらの信号線群が交差する位置に配された複数の画素回路とを含み、液晶層として不揮発性液晶化合物を含有する液晶表示パネルと、前記液晶表示パネルを駆動するための駆動手段と、前記駆動手段に電圧を供給するための電源手段と、前記液晶表示パネルに表示するための画像データを一時的に格納するビデオメモリと、前記ビデオメモリに格納されている画像データを順次前記液晶表示パネルへ転送する制御手段とを備えた不揮発性液晶表示装置の表示方法であって、前記制御手段が、前記転送中に新たな画像データを描画するための画像書換信号を受けた場合、前記駆動手段への電源供給を維持したまま前記転送をキャンセルし、前記新たな画像データの前記ビデオメモリへの格納を実行するように制御することを特徴とする。
図1は、本発明を適用した不揮発性液晶表示装置のブロック図である。
図1において、不揮発性液晶表示装置10は、CPU1、制御回路2、ビデオメモリ(以下、VRAMと称す)3、メモリー4、電源回路5および液晶表示パネル6を備える。
VRAM3には、前記液晶表示パネル6に表示するための画像データを、前記制御回路2の制御のもと、メモリー4から転送して一時的に格納する。
また、制御回路2は、前記VRAM3から前記液晶表示パネル6への画像転送中に、新たな画像データを描画するための画像書換信号をCPU1から受けた場合、前記駆動回路への電源供給を維持したまま前記転送をキャンセルする。そして、前記新たな画像データの前記VRAM3への格納を実行するように制御する。
図2は、本発明を適用した実施における表示制御処理の流れを示すフローチャートである。
図1および図2を用いて上述したように、本発明を適用した不揮発性液晶表示装置10は、表示制御処理により、従来描画のキャンセル指示があった場合に実行していた駆動用電源のONおよびOFFシーケンス(図3の(A)参照)を省略し、駆動用電源の電圧を保ったまま、データ転送後の描画開始トリガまで待機することで、パネル駆動用のOFFシーケンスおよびそれに続くONシーケンスの時間を省略することができ、描画時間を短くすることが可能となる(図3の(B)参照)。
本発明は、単純マトリックス制御のコレステリック液晶において、画像の描画中にその描画をキャンセルし、次画面を書き換えた場合、次画面の描画までの時間間隔を短くすることができる、という効果を奏する。
Claims (4)
- 走査信号線群と前記走査線信号群に交差するデータ信号線群とこれらの信号線群が交差する位置に配された複数の画素回路とを含み、液晶層として不揮発性液晶化合物を含有する液晶表示パネルと、
前記液晶表示パネルを駆動するための駆動手段と、
前記駆動手段に電圧を供給するための電源手段と、
前記液晶表示パネルに表示するための画像データを一時的に格納するビデオメモリと、
前記ビデオメモリに格納されている画像データを順次前記液晶表示パネルへ転送する制御手段と、
を備え、
前記制御手段は、前記転送中に新たな画像データを描画するための画像書換信号を受けた場合、前記駆動手段への電源供給を維持したまま前記転送をキャンセルし、前記新たな画像データの前記ビデオメモリへの格納を実行するように制御することを特徴とする不揮発性液晶表示装置。 - 前記液晶層は、コレステリック液晶層であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の不揮発性液晶表示装置。
- 走査信号線群と前記走査線信号群に交差するデータ信号線群とこれらの信号線群が交差する位置に配された複数の画素回路とを含み、液晶層として不揮発性液晶化合物を含有する液晶表示パネルと、

前記制御手段が、前記転送中に新たな画像データを描画するための画像書換信号を受けた場合、前記駆動手段への電源供給を維持したまま前記転送をキャンセルし、前記新たな画像データの前記ビデオメモリへの格納を実行するように制御することを特徴とする不揮発性液晶表示装置の表示方法。 - 前記液晶層は、コレステリック液晶層であることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の不揮発性液晶表示装置の表示方法。
