Description

表示装置、表示方法、情報記録媒体、ならびに、プログラム
 本発明は、ユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示し、また、ユーザが所望の項目を選択しやすくするために好適な表示装置、表示方法、情報記録媒体、ならびに、プログラムに関する。
 ユーザがマウスやコントローラ等の入力デバイスを操作して、予め用意された複数の項目の中から所望の項目を選択できるユーザインターフェースがある。例えば、複数の楽曲の中からいずれか1つを選択して再生させることができるジュークボックスや、複数のキャラクタの中から好きなキャラクタを主人公に選んでプレイできるゲームなどでは、ユーザが選択可能な楽曲リストやキャラクタリストを提示する項目メニューがモニターに表示される。ユーザは、例えばコントローラのボタンを押圧して、所望の楽曲やキャラクタ等を選択する。
 ユーザが選択可能な項目が多くなったり階層構造が複雑化したりするケースを考慮し、項目メニューの提示手法には様々な工夫がなされている。例えば、特許文献1には、階層構造を有する項目メニューにおいて、現在どの階層のメニューが表示されているのかをユーザが把握し易くする情報出力装置が開示されている。

 ところで、ユーザが選択可能な項目の数が比較的多い場合や、画面レイアウト上の制限がある場合、項目を一度にすべて表示できなかったり項目メニューが複雑化して分かりづらくなってしまったりすることがある。そうすると、ユーザは、項目メニューの中にどのような項目が含まれているのか、あるいは、好みの項目がどのあたりに配置されているのか、といったことを把握しづらくなってしまい、使い勝手の良くないユーザインターフェースになってしまうという問題があった。特に、複数の項目の最初と最後を連続させて途切れることがないように表示させる(巡回的に表示させる)ようにすると、現在表示されている項目が全体のどのあたりに位置する項目なのかを把握しづらくなってしまうことがあった。
 本発明はこのような課題を解決するものであり、ユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示し、また、ユーザが所望の項目を選択しやすくするために好適な表示装置、表示方法、情報記録媒体、ならびに、プログラムを提供することを目的とする。
 以上の目的を達成するため、本発明の原理にしたがって、下記の発明を開示する。
 本発明の第1の観点に係る表示装置は、表示位置記憶部、注目項目記憶部、表示部を備える。
 表示位置記憶部は、巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるマーク表示位置を記憶する。
 注目項目記憶部は、複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目を記憶する。
 表示部は、現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶されるマーク表示位置にマーク画像を表示する。
 また、記憶されるマーク表示位置は、所定の往復軌道上に配置される。
 更に、複数の項目は、往復軌道上において、当該項目のマーク表示位置が、当該項目の前の項目のマーク表示位置と、当該項目の後の項目のマーク表示位置と、に
(a)挟まれる項目(以下、「通常項目」という。)と、
(b)挟まれない項目(以下、「極項目」という。)と、
からなり、極項目の数は2である。
 本発明の表示装置は、巡回的な順序で並べられた複数の項目をユーザに提示する。巡回的な順序とは、N個(ただしNは少なくとも3以上の整数であることが望ましい。)の項目があるとき、N番目の項目の後が1番目の項目であるような順序のことである。また、1番目の項目の前がN番目の項目である順序のことである。例えば、各項目が順番に左右に並べて提示され、ユーザが左ボタンと右ボタンを押圧して表示項目をスクロールさせるユーザインターフェースにおいて、1番目の項目の場所から右ボタンを押し続けてN番目の項目に到達しても、再び1番目の項目に戻ることになる。
 複数の項目のそれぞれには、マーク画像の表示位置が対応付けられる。マーク画像とは、例えば、項目内容を詳しく紹介するための1つの紹介画像、もしくは、紹介画像の集合である。紹介画像は、静止画像、動画像、プレビュー画像、サムネイル画像などである。それぞれのマーク画像の表示位置は、予め設定される軌道上に配置される。
 軌道は、直線(線分)、曲線、任意の図形、もしくはこれらの組み合わせで定義される。軌道には2つの端点が含まれる。言い換えれば、第1の端点と第2の端点とを結ぶ任意の線が軌道となる。それぞれの端点が、軌道の折り返し地点になる。なお、これらの端点が示す表示位置が対応付けられる項目を「極項目」と呼び、その他の項目を「通常項目」と呼ぶ。
 マーク画像が移動する軌道の典型的な形状は、例えば直線又は曲線からなる1本の線である。例えば、モニターに表示される矩形の画像領域内に、矩形の頂点の一つを原点とする2次元(X-Y)座標系が定義される。軌道の端点の一つは、X座標(又はY座標)が最小値をとる点であり、もう一つは、X座標(又はY座標)が最大値をとる点である。そして、マーク画像は、仮選択されている項目の変化に応じて、これら2つの点の間を往復運動(振動)する。
 表示装置は、第1段階として、ユーザによる「仮選択」する旨の指示に応じて複数の項目の中からいずれか1つを仮選択する。そして、表示装置は、仮選択した項目に対応付けられる紹介画像を含むマーク画像を、予め対応付けられる表示位置に表示する。仮選択中の項目は、ユーザによって他の項目に比べて相対的により注目されていると推定できる。その後、表示装置は、第2段階として、ユーザによる「選択」する旨の指示に応じて、仮選択されている項目を選択する。例えば、表示装置は、選択された項目に予め対応付けられている楽曲の再生を開始する。
 仮選択されている項目が変わると、マーク画像の表示位置も変わる。マーク画像は、上述の軌道上を移動する。軌道には2つの端点が存在するので、マーク画像は、仮選択されている項目の変化に応じて軌道上を行ったり来たりすることになる。
 従って、ユーザは、マーク画像の表示位置から、項目全体のうち現在注目している項目がどの辺りに配置されている項目なのかを直感的に把握しやすくなる。また、ユーザは、現在仮選択されている項目から所望の項目がどの程度離れているのかを把握しやすくなる。本発明によれば、表示装置は、ユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示することができる。また、ユーザは、項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる。
 表示位置記憶部は、複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるブロック表示位置を更に記憶してもよい。
 記憶されるブロック表示位置は、所定の周回軌道上に配置されてもよく、
 記憶されるブロック表示位置のそれぞれを所定の基準線に射影した位置の順番は、記憶されるマーク表示位置のそれぞれの順番と合致してもよい。
 また、表示部は、複数の項目のそれぞれについて、当該項目に対応付けられるブロック画像を、記憶されるブロック表示位置に、更に表示してもよい。
 そして、表示部は、複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目に対応付けられるブロック画像を、強調して表示してもよい。
 ここで、周回軌道とは、円、楕円、任意の閉曲線等で描かれ、例えば一筆書きできるような、軌道である。各ブロック画像は、各項目に対応付けられる画像であり、例えば項目の番号が割り振られている画像である。ブロック画像は、周回軌道上に並んで配置される。そして、現在仮選択中の項目に対応するブロック画像が、他のブロック画像より相対的に強調されて表示される。強調の手法は任意であるが、例えば、明度・彩度・色相の変更、拡大・縮小、回転、変形、点滅、などがある。
 本発明においても、ユーザは、マーク画像の表示位置から、項目全体のうち現在注目している項目がどの辺りに配置されている項目なのかを直感的に把握しやすくなる。表示装置は、ユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示することができる。また、ユーザは、項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる。
 記憶されるマーク表示位置は互いに異なっていてもよい。
 つまり、マーク画像の表示位置は、項目ごとに固有の値をとることになる。本発明によれば、表示装置がユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示できる効果が増し、ユーザが項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる効果が増す。
 2つの極項目で挟まれる区間内の通常項目に対応付けられるマーク表示位置を示す座標値は、単調増加又は単調減少してもよい。
 つまり、マーク画像の表示位置は、一方の極項目から他方の極項目までの間で滑らかに変化する。ユーザは、現在注目している項目が、極項目同士の間のどの辺りの位置にあるのかを把握しやすくなる。本発明によれば、表示装置がユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示できる効果が増し、ユーザが項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる効果が増す。
 複数の項目の隣り合う2つのマーク表示位置の間隔は一定であってもよい。
 つまり、マーク画像の表示位置の変化量は、移動する項目数(あるいは移動する項目数を全項目数で除算したときの余りの数)に比例する。本発明によれば、表示装置がユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示できる効果が増し、ユーザが項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる効果が増す。
 記憶されるマーク表示位置の、軌道上の所定の基準点からの変位は、順序の変化の大きさに比例して増加する位相を有する三角関数を用いて表されてもよい。
 つまり、マーク画像の表示位置の変化は、まるでバネが伸び縮みするかのような往復運動を繰り返す。マーク画像は、例えば単振動する。本発明によれば、表示装置がユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示できる効果が増し、ユーザが項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる効果が増す。
 表示部は、マーク画像として、現在注目されている項目を表す画像を表示してもよい。
 つまり、マーク画像には、現在ユーザが最も関心を寄せていると推定される項目に対応付けられている画像が含まれる。ユーザは、項目内容を詳しく知ることができる画像を見ながら、項目を選択できるようになる。本発明によれば、表示装置がユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示できる効果が増し、ユーザが項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる効果が増す。
 表示部は、マーク画像として、現在注目されている項目を表す画像と、現在注目されている項目の前後の所定個数分の他の項目を表す画像と、を表示してもよい。
 つまり、現在ユーザが最も関心を寄せていると推定される項目に対応付けられている画像だけでなく、その前後所定個数分の項目に対応付けられている画像も一緒に表示される。ユーザは、現在注目している項目の前後の項目がどのような内容なのかを見ながら項目を選択できる。本発明によれば、表示装置がユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示できる効果が増し、ユーザが項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる効果が増す。
 表示部は、マーク画像として、現在注目されている項目を表す画像を、現在注目されている項目の前後の所定個数分の他の項目を表す画像よりも相対的に強調して表示してもよい。
 つまり、現在ユーザが最も関心を寄せていると推定される項目に対応付けられている画像が強調して表示される。強調する手法として様々な手法を採用することができるが、例えば、現在ユーザが最も関心を寄せていると推定される項目のみ拡大して表示する手法、現在ユーザが最も関心を寄せていると推定される項目のみカラーで表示したり明るく表示したりする手法、などがある。本発明によれば、表示装置がユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示できる効果が増し、ユーザが項目全体の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる効果が増す。
 本発明のその他の観点に係る表示方法は、記憶部を有する表示装置にて実行される表示方法であって、表示ステップを備える。
 記憶部には、巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるマーク表示位置と、複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目と、が記憶される。
 表示ステップでは、現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶されるマーク表示位置にマーク画像を表示する。
 また、記憶されるマーク表示位置は、所定の往復軌道上に配置される。
 更に、複数の項目は、往復軌道上において、当該項目のマーク表示位置が、当該項目の前の項目のマーク表示位置と、当該項目の後の項目のマーク表示位置と、に

 表示位置記憶部は、巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるマーク表示位置を記憶する。
 注目項目記憶部は、複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目を記憶する。
 表示部は、現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶されるマーク表示位置にマーク画像を表示する。

 上記プログラムは、プログラムが実行されるコンピュータとは独立して、コンピュータ通信網を介して配布・販売することができる。また、上記情報記録媒体は、コンピュータとは独立して配布・販売することができる。
 本発明によれば、ユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示し、また、ユーザが所望の項目を選択しやすくするために好適な表示装置、表示方法、情報記録媒体、ならびに、プログラムを提供することができる。

(実施形態1)
 本発明の実施形態を説明する。以下では、理解を容易にするため、ゲーム用の情報処理装置を利用して本発明が実現される実施形態を説明するが、以下の実施形態は説明のためのものであり、本願発明の範囲を制限するものではない。したがって、当業者であればこれらの各要素もしくは全要素をこれと均等なものに置換した実施形態を採用することが可能であるが、これらの実施形態も本発明の範囲に含まれる。
 図1は、プログラムを実行することにより、本発明の表示装置の機能を果たす典型的な情報処理装置100の概要構成を示す模式図である。以下、本図を参照して説明する。
 情報処理装置100は、CPU(Central Processing Unit)101と、ROM(Read Only Memory)102と、RAM(Random Access Memory)103と、インターフェース104と、コントローラ105と、外部メモリ106と、DVD-ROM(Digital Versatile Disk - Read Only Memory)ドライブ107と、画像処理部108と、音声処理部109と、NIC(Network Interface Card)110と、を備える。
 ゲーム用のプログラムおよびデータを記憶したDVD-ROMをDVD-ROMドライブ107に装着して、情報処理装置100の電源を投入することにより、当該プログラムが実行され、本実施形態の表示装置が実現される。
 CPU 101は、情報処理装置100全体の動作を制御し、各構成要素と接続され制御信号やデータをやりとりする。また、CPU 101は、レジスタ(図示せず)という高速アクセスが可能な記憶域に対してALU(Arithmetic Logic Unit)(図示せず)を用いて加減乗除等の算術演算や、論理和、論理積、論理否定等の論理演算、ビット和、ビット積、ビット反転、ビットシフト、ビット回転等のビット演算などを行うことができる。さらに、マルチメディア処理対応のための加減乗除等の飽和演算や、三角関数等、ベクトル演算などを高速に行えるように、CPU 101自身が構成されているものや、コプロセッサを備えて実現するものがある。
 ROM 102には、電源投入直後に実行されるIPL(Initial Program Loader)が記録され、これが実行されることにより、DVD-ROMに記録されたプログラムをRAM 103に読み出してCPU 101による実行が開始される。また、ROM 102には、情報処理装置100全体の動作制御に必要なオペレーティングシステムのプログラムや各種のデータが記録される。
 RAM 103は、データやプログラムを一時的に記憶するためのもので、DVD-ROMから読み出したプログラムやデータ、その他ゲームの進行やチャット通信に必要なデータが保持される。また、CPU 101は、RAM 103に変数領域を設け、当該変数に格納された値に対して直接ALUを作用させて演算を行ったり、RAM 103に格納された値を一旦レジスタに格納してからレジスタに対して演算を行い、演算結果をメモリに書き戻す、などの処理を行う。
 インターフェース104を介して接続されたコントローラ105は、プレイヤーがダンスゲームやサッカーゲームなどのゲームの実行の際に行う操作入力を受け付ける。インターフェース104には、複数のコントローラ105が接続されていてもよい。
 インターフェース104を介して着脱自在に接続された外部メモリ106には、ゲームのプレイ状況(過去の成績等)を示すデータ、ゲームの進行状態を示すデータ、ネットワークを用いたゲームのチャット通信のログ(記録)のデータなどが書き換え可能に記憶される。プレイヤーは、コントローラ105を介して操作入力を行うことにより、これらのデータを適宜外部メモリ106に記録することができる。
 DVD-ROMドライブ107に装着されるDVD-ROMには、ゲームを実現するためのプログラムとゲームに付随する画像データや音声データが記録される。CPU 101の制御によって、DVD-ROMドライブ107は、これに装着されたDVD-ROMに対する読み出し処理を行って、必要なプログラムやデータを読み出し、これらはRAM 103等に一時的に記憶される。
 画像処理部108は、DVD-ROMから読み出されたデータをCPU 101や画像処理部108が備える画像演算プロセッサ(図示せず)によって加工処理した後、これを画像処理部108が備えるフレームメモリ(図示せず)に記録する。フレームメモリに記録された画像情報は、所定の同期タイミングでビデオ信号に変換され画像処理部108に接続されるモニター(図示せず)へ出力される。これにより、各種の画像表示が可能となる。
 画像演算プロセッサは、2次元の画像の重ね合わせ演算やαブレンディング等の透過演算、各種の飽和演算を高速に実行できる。
 また、仮想3次元空間に配置され、各種のテクスチャ情報が付加されたポリゴン情報を、Zバッファ法によりレンダリングして、所定の視点位置から仮想3次元空間に配置されたポリゴンを所定の視線の方向へ俯瞰したレンダリング画像を得る演算の高速実行も可能である。
 さらに、CPU 101と画像演算プロセッサが協調動作することにより、文字の形状を定義するフォント情報にしたがって、文字列を2次元画像としてフレームメモリへ描画したり、各ポリゴン表面へ描画することが可能である。
 また、ゲームの画像などの情報をDVD-ROMに用意しておき、これをフレームメモリに展開することによって、ゲームの様子などを画面に表示することができるようになる。
 音声処理部109は、DVD-ROMから読み出した音声データをアナログ音声信号に変換し、これに接続されたスピーカー(図示せず)から出力させる。また、CPU 101の制御の下、ゲームの進行の中で発生させるべき効果音や楽曲データを生成し、これに対応した音声をスピーカーから出力させる。
 音声処理部109では、DVD-ROMに記録された音声データがMIDIデータである場合には、これが有する音源データを参照して、MIDIデータをPCMデータに変換する。また、ADPCM(Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation)形式やOgg Vorbis形式等の圧縮済音声データである場合には、これを展開してPCMデータに変換する。PCMデータは、そのサンプリング周波数に応じたタイミングでD/A(Digital/Analog)変換を行って、スピーカーに出力することにより、音声出力が可能となる。
 NIC 110は、情報処理装置100をインターネット等のコンピュータ通信網(図示せず)に接続するためのものであり、LAN(Local Area Network)を構成する際に用いられる10BASE-T/100BASE-T規格にしたがうものや、電話回線を用いてインターネットに接続するためのアナログモデム、ISDN(Integrated Services Digital Network)モデム、ADSL(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)モデム、ケーブルテレビジョン回線を用いてインターネットに接続するためのケーブルモデム等と、これらとCPU 101との仲立ちを行うインターフェース(図示せず)により構成される。
 このほか、情報処理装置100は、ハードディスク等の大容量外部記憶装置を用いて、ROM 102、RAM 103、外部メモリ106、DVD-ROMドライブ107に装着されるDVD-ROM等と同じ機能を果たすように構成してもよい。
 次に、上記構成を有する情報処理装置100により実現される、本実施形態の表示装置200の機能的な構成について説明する。
 図2は、表示装置200の機能的な構成を説明するための図である。表示装置200は、表示位置記憶部201、注目項目記憶部202、表示部203を備える。
 表示装置200は、配列数と配列順が予め決められている複数の項目の中からユーザが任意の項目を選択できるように、それぞれの項目をモニターに表示する。ユーザは、表示装置200によって与えられる複数の項目の中から、いずれか1つを選択することができる。
 項目は、ユーザが選択可能な選択肢一つ一つを指す。例えば複数の楽曲の中からユーザが所望の楽曲を選択できるジュークボックスにおいて、項目は、それらの楽曲の一つ一つのことである。ユーザは、複数の項目(楽曲群)の中から任意の項目(楽曲)を選択して再生を指示することができる。
 項目のそれぞれは、予め決められている配列順で並べられる。項目がN個(Nは自然数)用意されるとき、N個の要素数からなる配列変数ARが定義される。配列AR[0]~AR[N-1]のそれぞれに、項目を指定する情報が格納される。CPU 101は、RAM 103に格納される配列変数ARを適宜読み出し、項目の配列順を取得する。
 例えば図3は、項目と、項目に対応付けられる内容(項目内容)と、を表す図である。配列変数ARの1番目の配列AR[0]に楽曲“AB”、2番目の配列AR[1]に楽曲“CD”、N番目の配列AR[N-1]に楽曲“YZ”、というように、配列AR[i](iは0以上N-1以下の整数)のそれぞれには、再生対象となる楽曲が対応付けられる。図3は一例に過ぎず、項目数及び項目内容は本発明によって限定されない。
 CPU 101は、配列変数ARで定義される項目の配列順を用いて、それぞれの項目をモニターに表示させる。例えば図3に示すように配列変数ARが定義されるとき、CPU 101は、1番目の楽曲“AB”の次が2番目の楽曲“CD”になるように、項目を並べて表示する。同様に、CPU 101は、N-1番目の楽曲“WX”の次がN番目の楽曲“YZ”になるように、項目を並べて表示する。
 CPU 101は、配列変数AR[N-1]に対応するN番目の楽曲“YZ”の次の楽曲として、配列変数AR[0]に対応する1番目の楽曲“AB”を表示する。また、CPU 101は、1番目の楽曲“AB”の1つ前の楽曲として、N番目の楽曲“YZ”を表示する。
 つまり、項目の配列順は巡回的(サイクリック)である。巡回的とは、配列変数ARの最初の配列AR[0]と最後の配列AR[N-1]とが隣り合う順番であることを意味する。このような配列の構造は、一般的には、循環配列や循環バッファなどとも呼ばれる。
 以下の説明において、1番目の配列AR[0]から2番目の配列AR[1]へと向かう向きのことを「正の向き」と呼び、2番目の配列AR[1]から1番目の配列AR[0]へと向かう向きのことを「負の向き」と呼ぶこととする。
 本実施形態では、上述の項目は、再生対象となる楽曲に相当する。表示装置200は、予め格納している複数の楽曲(複数の項目)からなる楽曲群(項目群)の中からいずれか1つを選択する指示をユーザから受け付ける画面をモニターに表示する。項目が選択されると、選択された項目に対応する楽曲が再生される。
 図4は、表示装置200によって表示される画面の構成例を示す図である。この画面には、楽曲リストを表す円環状のメニュー400と、すべての楽曲のうち所定個数分の楽曲に対応する紹介画像420(図4では420N-1,420,420,420,420の5個)が表示される。
 画面に表示される上記所定個数の紹介画像420のことをまとめて「紹介画像群430」もしくは「マーク画像」と呼ぶ。
 上述の所定個数は1以上であればよい。所定個数を1にする場合、CPU 101は、現在注目されている項目に対応付けられている紹介画像420を表示する。
 紹介画像420は、例えば、楽曲の詳細等を紹介するプレビュー画像である。紹介画像420の内容は自由である。例えば、紹介画像420には、タイトル名、アーティスト名、楽曲に関係するイメージ、宣伝等が含まれる。紹介画像420は、動画像でもよいし静止画像でもよい。
 所定個数を複数にする場合、CPU 101は、現在注目されている項目に対応付けられている紹介画像420がなるべく画面の中央付近になるように配置することが望ましい。
 注目されている項目とは、すべての項目のうち、ユーザによってあるいはCPU 101の判断によって仮選択状態にある項目のことである。CPU 101は、仮選択状態の項目に対応する紹介画像420が、ユーザの立場から見て他の紹介画像420より相対的に強調されるように(より目立つように)表示する。仮選択状態に設定された項目は、その時点で最もユーザが興味を示している項目であると推定できる。
 例えば図4では、紹介画像群430の中央に位置する紹介画像420に対応する項目410が仮選択状態である。CPU 101は、紹介画像420が他の紹介画像420N-1,420,420,420よりも相対的に強調されるように表示する。従って、現在ユーザが最も興味を示していると推定される項目に対応する紹介画像420がユーザに提供される。
 強調方法は本発明によって限定されず、自由である。例えば、CPU 101は、仮選択状態の項目に対応する紹介画像420を相対的に大きく表示してもよい。
 CPU 101は、仮選択状態の項目に対応する紹介画像420を明るく(輝度を高く)して表示し、他の紹介画像420N-1,420,420,420を暗く(輝度を低く)して表示してもよい。
 CPU 101は、仮選択状態の項目に対応する紹介画像420をカラーで表示し、他の紹介画像420N-1,420,420,420を白黒で表示してもよい。
 CPU 101は、どの項目が仮選択状態にあるかを示すパラメータをRAM 103に格納する。仮選択状態の項目を変更する指示を受け付けると、CPU 101は、新たに仮選択状態になった項目を指すように、このパラメータを更新する。
 なお、このパラメータには、選択状態と仮選択状態のいずれでもない状態(非選択状態)の項目がどれであるかを示す情報が含まれていなくてもよい。
 仮選択状態に設定される項目の数は、本実施形態では1つである。ただし、複数の項目が同時に仮選択状態に設定されることがあってもよい。
 いずれかの項目が仮選択状態にあるときに、項目を選択する旨の指示をユーザから受け付けると、CPU 101は、その項目を「仮選択状態」から「選択状態」に変更する。そして、CPU 101は、選択状態の項目(選択する旨の指示があった項目)に対応付けられている楽曲の再生を開始する。
 円環状のメニュー400は、複数のブロック410から構成される。図4では、メニュー400にはN個のブロック(410,410,410など)がある。ブロック410のそれぞれは、いずれかの楽曲(項目)に対応付けられている。本実施形態では再生対象の楽曲がN個あるので、ブロック410も同数(N個)存在する。
 メニュー400内におけるブロック410の並び順は、配列AR[0]~配列AR[N-1]の配列順と同じである。ブロック410が並ぶ向きは、時計回り、反時計回りのいずれでもよい。
 メニュー400の形状は、図4に示すような楕円形に限られず、正円、多角形、任意の曲線及び/又は直線によって閉じられた図形などでもよい。
 次に、表示位置記憶部201、注目項目記憶部202、表示部203について詳しく説明する。
 表示位置記憶部201は、巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられる表示位置を記憶する。表示位置は、モニターに表示される画面内における紹介画像420(もしくは紹介画像群430)の位置である。CPU 101と外部メモリ106が協働して表示位置記憶部201として機能する。
 注目項目記憶部202は、複数の項目のうち、現在注目されている項目を指定する情報を記憶する。CPU 101とRAM 103が協働して注目項目記憶部202として機能する。
 表示部203は、現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶される表示位置に、紹介画像群(マーク画像)430を表示する。CPU 101と画像処理部108が協働して表示部203として機能する。
 表示位置は、画面内に予め定義される座標系に従い、座標値で表現される。本実施形態では、座標系は、画面の隅のいずれか(典型的にはユーザから見て左上の隅)を原点とする直行座標系(X-Y座標系)である。
 図5は、表示位置を含む情報(以下「表示位置定義情報500」という。)の構成例を示す図である。図5の表示位置定義情報500では、仮選択状態にある項目と、紹介画像420を指定する情報と、紹介画像420の表示位置と、が対応付けられている。本実施形態では、表示位置は、紹介画像420を代表する点のY座標値で指定される。代表する点として、画像データの中心点、重心点、頂点などが用いられる。
 CPU 101は、表示位置定義情報500を読み出し、紹介画像420の表示位置を決定する。そして、CPU 101は、決定した表示位置に紹介画像420を配置した画面を表示する。CPU 101は、後述するように、仮選択状態の項目を変更する指示入力、又は、仮選択状態を選択状態に変更する指示入力を受け付ける。
 本実施形態では、CPU 101は、仮選択状態の項目を変更する指示入力をユーザから受け付ける。CPU 101は、受け付けた指示入力に応じて仮選択状態の項目を変更する。ユーザは、例えば、コントローラ105が備える左ボタン・右ボタンを押圧することにより、仮選択状態の項目を変更できる。
 なお、CPU 101は、ユーザからの指示入力によらずに仮選択状態の項目を変更してもよい。CPU 101は、ある項目が仮選択状態になってから一定時間が経過すると、その項目の前後のどちらかの項目を新たに仮選択状態に設定してもよい。
 CPU 101は、仮選択状態の項目を変更すると、変更後の仮選択状態の項目に対応付けられている紹介画像420と表示位置とを、外部メモリ106から読み出す。CPU 101は、読み出した表示位置に、読み出した紹介画像420を表示する。なお、各項目に対応付けられている紹介画像420を指定する情報と表示位置とを含む表示位置定義情報500、ならびに、各項目に対応する紹介画像420は、外部メモリ106に記憶されているものとする。
 本実施形態では、仮選択状態の項目に対応付けられる表示位置は、紹介画像群430の表示位置と同じである。すなわち、仮選択状態の項目が変更されると、紹介画像群430に含まれる紹介画像420すべての表示位置が変更される。
 紹介画像420もしくは紹介画像群430の表示位置は、所定の軌道440上で連続的に移動する。連続的な移動とは、表示位置が階段関数のように飛び飛びに変わるのではなく、連続関数のようにスムーズに上下(もしくは左右)に移動することである。
 軌道440の形状は、典型的には直線(線分)や曲線であるが、これらに限られず、任意に定義することができる。本実施形態では、軌道440は、端点451,452を結ぶ線分である。
 円環状のメニュー400を構成するそれぞれのブロック410の位置は固定されている。例えば図4では、Y座標値が小さい順に、ブロック410の位置がY、ブロック410の位置がY、ブロック410の位置がY、ブロック410K-1の位置がYK-1、ブロック410の位置がY、である。
 表示位置定義情報500に格納される表示位置の大小関係は、ブロック410の位置の大小関係と同じである。すなわち、Y座標値が小さい順に、項目410N-1に対応付けられる表示位置がCN-1、項目410に対応付けられる表示位置がC、項目410に対応付けられる表示位置がC、項目410に対応付けられる表示位置がC、項目410に対応付けられる表示位置がC、である。
 表示位置定義情報500に格納される表示位置の最小値は、最もY座標値が小さい(つまり画面の最も上にある)ブロック410に対応する表示位置Cである。また、最大値は、最もY座標値が大きい(つまり画面の最も下にある)ブロック410の表示位置に対応する表示位置Cである。
 表示位置Cに対応する項目(画面の最も上にあるブロック410に対応する項目)と、表示位置Cに対応する項目(画面の最も下にあるブロック410に対応する項目)を、それぞれ「極項目」という。極項目は、軌道440の端点に対応する項目である。図4に示す軌道440の場合、軌道440を表す線分の二つの端点451,452に対応する2項目がいずれも極項目である。
 一方、極項目でないその他の項目を「通常項目」という。通常項目は、軌道440の端点以外の位置に対応する項目である。図4に示す軌道440の場合、線分の2つの端点451,452に対応する2項目以外の(N-2)個の他の項目が通常項目である。
 表示位置定義情報500に格納される表示位置は互いに異なることが望ましい。この場合、仮選択状態の項目が変更されるのに合わせて、紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の位置が軌道440に沿って必ず移動する。
 また、表示位置定義情報500に格納される表示位置同士の間隔は、一定であってもよい。例えば図4では、表示位置の間隔は一定値ΔCである。この場合、仮選択状態の項目が1つ隣りに変更されると、紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の位置が一定量ΔCだけ上又は下に移動する。仮選択状態の項目がn個(nは1以上の整数)だけ隣りに変更されると、紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の位置が、下記[数1]に示す量だけ上又は下に移動する。

 ただし、演算子“mod”は、nをNで除算したときの余りである。Nは項目の総数である。
 また、表示位置定義情報500に格納される表示位置のうちP番目(Pは1以上の整数)の項目の表示位置を表す関数F(P)は、下記[数2]で表されてもよい。

 ただし、A,Bは所定の定数である。定数「A」は、ゼロでない値である。[数2]によれば、表示位置の変化量は、三角関数を用いた周期関数で表される。
 あるいは、関数F(P)は、下記[数3]で表されてもよい。

        + C・cos(2πP/N + B)   ・・・[数3]
 ただし、A,B,Cは所定の定数である。定数「A」,「C」は、ゼロでない値である。[数3]によれば、表示位置の変化量は、複数の三角関数を組み合わせた周期関数で表される。
 上記[数2]や[数3]で表される表示位置は、言い換えれば、軌道440内の所定の基準点からの変位である。所定の基準点は、例えばいずれかの極項目に対応する軌道440上の点である。
 図6Aは、[数2]で表される表示位置の変化を説明するための図である。関数F(P)は、例えば曲線610で表される形状をしている。横軸は項目の順番を表す値Pであり、縦軸は項目の表示位置(本実施形態ではY座標)である。関数F(P)は、Nを周期とする周期関数である。
 単位周期(1サイクル)内には、2つの極項目620,630と、通常項目640(図6Aでは640A~640Iの9つ)と、がある。
 通常項目640の表示位置は、配列順が1つ前の項目の表示位置と、配列順が1つ後の項目の表示位置と、に挟まれている。例えば、通常項目640Bの表示位置は、配列順が1つ前の通常項目640Aの表示位置と、配列順が1つ後の通常項目640Cの表示位置と、に挟まれている。
 極項目620は、表示位置が最大値をとる項目であり、図4におけるブロック410に対応する項目のことである。極項目620の表示位置を表す座標値は、配列順が1つ前の通常項目640Cの表示位置と、配列順が1つ後の通常項目640Dの表示位置と、のいずれよりも大きい。つまり、極項目620の表示位置は、配列順が1つ前の項目の表示位置と、配列順が1つ後の項目の表示位置と、に挟まれていない。
 極項目630は、表示位置が最小値をとる項目であり、図4におけるブロック410に対応する項目のことである。極項目630の表示位置を表す座標値は、配列順が1つ前の通常項目640Gの表示位置と、配列順が1つ後の通常項目640Hの表示位置と、のいずれよりも小さい。つまり、極項目630の表示位置は、配列順が1つ前の項目の表示位置と、配列順が1つ後の項目の表示位置と、に挟まれていない。
 図6Aにおいて、仮選択状態の項目に対応付けられる紹介画像420の表示位置(もしくは紹介画像群430の表示位置)の変化は、周期が「N」、幅が「A」の単振動である。図4を用いて言い換えれば、仮選択状態の項目に対応付けられる紹介画像420(もしくは紹介画像群430)は、仮選択状態の項目が変化するのに応じて、軌道440上を、上下に単振動する。
 上述のように、CPU 101は、所定の軌道440上で、連続的に、紹介画像群430を移動させる。図6Bは、例えば通常項目640Eの表示位置C640Eから通常項目640Fの表示位置C640Fまで移動するケースで、紹介画像群430の表示位置が移動する様子を表す図である。移動開始前、紹介画像群430は領域681に静止している。移動を開始すると、紹介画像群430はY軸の正方向に滑らかに移動していき、中間の領域682を経由し、最終的に領域683まで移動して停止する。移動速度は任意である。
 例えば、図4に示すように、仮選択状態の項目がブロック410(配列AR[0])に対応する項目であるとき、CPU 101は、配列AR[0]に対応する項目の紹介画像420(イルカ)を、表示位置のX座標が紹介画像群430の真ん中付近であり、且つ、表示位置のY座標がCである位置に配置して、表示する。
 もし仮選択状態の項目が1つ後の配列AR[1]に対応する項目に変更されると、図7に示すように、CPU 101は、配列AR[1]に対応する項目の紹介画像420(イヌ)を、表示位置のX座標が紹介画像群430の真ん中付近であり、且つ、表示位置のY座標がCである位置に配置して表示する。つまり、紹介画像420(カメ),420(イルカ),420(イヌ),420(ハリネズミ)が左側に1つずつ移動し、紹介画像420(トリ)が新たに表示される。紹介画像420N-1(シカ)は紹介画像群430から除かれる。
 更に、CPU 101は、紹介画像群430の表示位置を、矢印700の向きに移動量ΔCだけ移動する。つまり、表示位置が最小の極項目410に対応する配列AR[M]から、表示位置が最大の極項目410に対応する配列AR[L]までの間(言い換えればメニュー400を表す楕円の右半分)では、仮選択状態の項目が正の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群430は下に移動する。また、仮選択状態の項目が負の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群430は上に移動する。
 また、表示位置が最大の極項目410に対応する配列AR[L]から、表示位置が最小の極項目410に対応する配列AR[M]までの間(言い換えればメニュー400を表す楕円の左半分)では、仮選択状態の項目が正の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群430は上に移動する。また、仮選択状態の項目が負の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群430は下に移動する。
 従って、画面全体が、いわゆるスクロールバーのように見える。紹介画像群430(マーク画像)は、スクロールバーの“つまみ”部分の画像に相当する。
 次に、本実施形態の表示装置200の上記各構成が行う表示処理について、図8のフローチャートを用いて説明する。表示装置200は、再生対象となり得るすべての楽曲(項目)を提示するメニュー400と、楽曲に予め対応付けられる紹介画像420と、を含む画面を表示する。表示装置200は、複数の楽曲の中からいずれか1つの楽曲を選択する指示入力をユーザから受け付け、この指示入力が示す楽曲の再生を開始する。以下、表示装置200の電源が投入され、最初にいずれか1つの項目が選択されるまでの処理の流れを例にとって説明する。
 まず、CPU 101は、表示位置定義情報500を外部メモリ106から読み出し、それぞれの項目に対応付けられる表示位置を取得する(ステップS801)。
 CPU 101は、すべての項目のうち現在注目されている項目(注目項目)を示す情報をRAM 103から取得する(ステップS802)。注目項目は、仮選択状態に設定されている項目である。表示処理の開始直後では、注目項目は予め設定される初期値である。
 CPU 101は、ステップS802で取得した注目項目を含む所定個数の紹介画像420を取得する(ステップS803)。本実施形態では、すべての楽曲のそれぞれに対応付けられる紹介画像420は外部メモリ106に予め格納されており、CPU 101は、注目項目に対応付けられる紹介画像420と、注目項目の前後の項目に対応付けられる紹介画像420と、を外部メモリ106から読み出す。
 例えば、図4に示すように所定個数が5であるとき、CPU 101は、注目項目(ブロック410に相当)に対応付けられる紹介画像420(イルカ)と、注目項目と隣り合う前後の項目に対応付けられる紹介画像420(イヌ)及び紹介画像420(カメ)と、注目項目と1つ飛びで隣り合う前後の項目に対応付けられる紹介画像420(ハリネズミ)及び紹介画像420N-1(シカ)と、を取得する。
 CPU 101は、ステップS802で取得した注目項目に対応付けられる表示位置に、注目項目に対応付けられる紹介画像420を配置して、モニターに表示する(ステップS804)。
 次に、CPU 101は、注目項目を変更する指示を受け付けたか否かを判別する(ステップS805)。
 注目項目を変更する指示は、ユーザがコントローラ105を操作することにより与えられる。あるいは、CPU 101は、注目項目が設定されてから所定時間が経過した場合に注目項目を変更する指示があったものとみなすというような所定のアルゴリズムにより判別してもよい。
 注目項目を変更する指示入力を受け付けたと判別した場合(ステップS805;YES)、CPU 101は、指示入力に応じて注目項目を変更し(ステップS806)、新たに設定した注目項目を示す情報をRAM 103に格納する。CPU 101は、ステップS803に戻り、上記ステップS803乃至S805の処理を繰り返す。
 一方、注目項目を変更する指示入力を受け付けていないと判別した場合(ステップS805;NO)、CPU 101は、注目項目を選択する指示があったか否かを判別する(ステップS807)。
 注目項目を選択する指示は、ユーザがコントローラ105を操作することにより与えられる。あるいは、CPU 101は、注目項目が設定されてから所定時間が経過した場合に注目項目を選択する指示があったものとみなすというような所定のアルゴリズムにより、判別してもよい。例えば、ユーザが項目を自由に選択できる時間に制限を設け、所定の制限時間が経過しても選択指示が入力されない場合、タイムオーバーと見なし、現在注目項目に設定されている項目を強制的に選択状態に設定してもよい。
 注目項目を選択する指示入力を受け付けていないと判別した場合(ステップS807;NO)、CPU 101は、ステップS805の処理に戻る。
 注目項目を選択する指示入力を受け付けたと判別した場合(ステップS807;YES)、CPU 101は、注目項目を仮選択状態から選択状態に変更し、注目項目に対応付けられる楽曲の再生を開始する(ステップS808)。
 本実施形態によれば、表示装置200は、ユーザが選択可能な複数の項目を、ユーザにとって見やすいように提示することができる。ユーザは、複数の項目の中から所望の項目を選択しやすくなる。
 例えば、複数の項目を含んでいてそれらをサイクリックに表示するメニュー画面において、項目数が比較的多い場合、画面の大きさやレイアウトの都合上、すべての項目に対応する紹介画像420を一度に表示しきれないことがある。このような場合、一般的には、仮選択中の項目に対応する紹介画像420と、その前後の項目の紹介画像420と、だけをピックアップして表示する手法がある。項目順がサイクリックな場合、ピックアップされた項目がすべての項目のうち何番目の項目なのかを把握しづらくなってしまうことがある。しかし、本実施形態によれば、ピックアップされた項目の順番の目安が、紹介画像群430(マーク画像)が上下に移動することにより、ユーザに提供される。従って、ユーザは、現在仮選択している項目が項目全体のうちどの辺りにあるものなのかを把握し易くなり、所望の項目を探し当て易くなる。
 本実施形態では、ブロック410の表示位置と、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の表示位置と、は異なる値である。しかし、これらは同じ値であってもよい。例えば、ブロック410の表示位置Yと、ブロック410が示す項目AR[0]に対応付けられる表示位置Cと、を一致させてもよい。同様に、すべてのブロック410について、ブロックの表示位置と、ブロックが示す項目に対応付けられる表示位置と、を一致させてもよい。
 ブロック410の表示位置と、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の表示位置と、を一致させた場合、ブロック410は、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)に隠れる場合がある。しかし、これらを一致させることにより、注目項目の変化と表示位置との連動が明確となり、ユーザはより直感的に項目を選択しやすくなる。
 本実施形態では、円環状のメニュー400が表示されている。しかし、CPU 101は、必ずしもメニュー400を表示しなくてもよい。メニュー400が表示されない場合においても、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の表示位置は、注目項目の変化に応じて所定量だけ軌道400上を移動する。よって、ユーザは、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の表示位置から、全項目のうち現在注目している項目がどの辺りに位置する項目なのか、あるいは全項目数がどれくらいなのか、といった状況を、おおよそ推測することが可能である。
(実施形態2)
 次に、本発明のその他の実施形態について説明する。上記実施形態では、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420(又は紹介画像群430)の表示位置は三角関数を用いた周期的な関数F(P)を用いて変化する。しかし、関数F(P)は上述のものに限られない。本実施形態は、関数F(P)のバリエーションを提示するものである。
 図9は、関数F(P)(以下「関数910」という。)の一例を示す図である。関数910は、いわゆる“のこぎり波”に類似した形状をしており、周期が「N」(Nは項目の総数)、振幅が「A」の周期関数である。
 波形は、表示位置が最小となる極項目920から項目の配列順に比例して上がっていき、もう一つの極項目930で最大値をとる。また、表示位置が最大となる極項目930から項目の配列順に比例して下がっていき、極項目920に至る。波形は、このような変化を周期的に繰り返す。
 図9では、極項目920から正の向きに極項目930へ向かう間、5つの通常項目940A~940Eがある。また、極項目930から正の向きに極項目920へ向かう間、1つの通常項目940Fがある。極項目920,930で挟まれる区間内の通常項目940の数は任意である。
 例えば、もし通常項目940Fを削除すると、極項目930から正の向きへ極項目920に注目項目が変更されたときに、紹介画像420(もしくは紹介画像群430)の表示位置が最大値から最小値まで極端に大きく移動してしまい、ユーザにとって見づらい画面になる恐れがある。また、項目が巡回的であることがユーザにとって分かりにくくなってしまう恐れがある。そこで、極項目920,930で挟まれる各区間内の通常項目940の数はゼロでないことが望ましい。
 言い換えれば、関数910の傾きは、ゼロより大きく、且つ、無限大ではない所定値より小さい範囲内であることが望ましい。
 また、項目に対応付けられる表示位置は互いに同じ値をとることがあってもよい。例えば図9では、通常項目940Cの表示位置と通常項目940Fの表示位置は同じである。
 図10は、関数F(P)(以下「関数1010」という。)の他の例を示す図である。関数1010は、関数910の形状を滑らかにしたような形状をしている。関数1010も、周期が「N」(Nは項目の総数)、振幅が「A」の周期関数である。
 波形は、表示位置が最小となる極項目1020から項目の配列順と共に上がっていき、もう一つの極項目1030で最大値をとる。また、表示位置が最大となる極項目1030から項目の配列順と共に下がっていき、極項目1020に至る。波形は、このような変化を周期的に繰り返す。
 関数F(P)は、上記実施形態及び本実施形態に記載したものに限られるわけではない。項目の順番が巡回的に定義され、極項目が2つ存在し、隣り合う極項目で挟まれる区間で単調増加と単調減少を繰り返し、表示位置が最大値から最小値まで振動する形状であればよい。
 本実施形態によれば、表示装置200は、ユーザが選択可能な複数の項目を、ユーザにとって見やすいように提示することができる。
(実施形態3)
 次に、本発明のその他の実施形態について説明する。上記実施形態では、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420を含む紹介画像群430(マーク画像)の表示位置が変化しているが、本実施形態では、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420の表示位置が不変である一方、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420を除く他の紹介画像群430の表示位置が変化する点で異なる。
 本実施形態では、紹介画像群(マーク画像)の定義は、「画面に表示される所定個数の紹介画像420のうち、現在の注目項目に対応する紹介画像420を除くものすべて」である。
 図11は、上述の図4に示す初期状態から、仮選択状態の項目が配列AR[0]の1つ後の配列AR[1]に対応する項目に変更されたときの画面の構成例である。図11において、紹介画像420,420,420,420の4つをまとめて紹介画像群1100(マーク画像)という。
 例えば、仮選択状態の項目が配列AR[0]に対応する項目であるとき、図4に示すように、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420と、紹介画像群430は、同じ表示位置Cに配置される。
 仮選択状態の項目が配列AR[0]に対応する項目から配列AR[1]に対応する項目に変更されると、図11に示すように、新たな注目項目に対応する紹介画像420は、古い注目項目に対応する紹介画像420が配置されていた位置と同じ表示位置C1に配置される。一方、紹介画像420,420,420,420の4つから構成される紹介画像群1100は、矢印1150の向きに変位ΔC(=C-C)だけ移動した表示位置Cに配置される。
 注目項目に対応する紹介画像420は、ユーザが最も関心を示しているものと推定できる。そこで、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420の表示位置を固定することにより、紹介画像420をより見やすくすることができる。
 例えば、ユーザが様々な紹介画像420を見比べながら項目を選んでいる状況において、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420を上下に動かしてしまうと、ユーザは最も関心のある紹介画像420を見るために頻繁に視点を上下に移動させねばならず、大変見づらい画面になってしまう恐れがある。しかし、注目項目に対応する紹介画像420の表示位置を固定し、且つ、他の紹介画像420を上下に移動させることにより、ユーザはじっくりと紹介画像420を閲覧しながら項目を選択できるようになる。
(実施形態4)
 次に、本発明のその他の実施形態について説明する。上記各実施形態では、紹介画像420又は紹介画像群430の表示位置がユーザから見て画面の上下に移動しているが、本実施形態は、画面の左右に移動する点で異なる。
 図12は、表示装置200によって表示される画面の構成例を示す図である。この画面には、楽曲リストを表す円環状のメニュー1200と、すべての楽曲のうち所定個数分の楽曲に対応する紹介画像1220(図12では1220N-1,1220,1220,1220,1220の5個)が表示される。注目項目は、紹介画像1220(イルカ)に対応する項目である。
 円環状のメニュー1200は、複数のブロック1210から構成される。図12では、メニュー1200にはN個のブロック(1210,1210,1210など)がある。ブロック1210のそれぞれは、いずれかの楽曲(項目)に対応付けられている。本実施形態では再生対象の楽曲がN個あるので、ブロック1210も同数(N個)存在する。
 本実施形態では、表示位置は、紹介画像420を代表する点のX座標値で指定される。代表する点として、画像データの中心点、重心点、頂点などが用いられる。
 紹介画像1220もしくは紹介画像群1230の表示位置は、所定の軌道1240上で連続的に移動する。軌道1240は、端点1251,1252を結ぶ線分である。ただし、軌道1240の形状は任意である。
 表示位置の最小値は、最もX座標値が小さい(つまり画面の最も左にある)ブロック1210Mに対応する表示位置DMである。また、最大値は、最もX座標値が大きい(つまり画面の最も右にある)ブロック1210の表示位置に対応する表示位置DLである。
 表示位置Dに対応する項目(画面の最も左にあるブロック1210に対応する項目)と、表示位置Dに対応する項目(画面の最も右にあるブロック1210に対応する項目)が、それぞれ極項目である。極項目は、端点1251に対応する項目(ブロック1210に対応する項目)と、端点1252に対応する項目(ブロック1210に対応する項目)と、の2つである。
 通常項目は、端点1251,1252以外の位置に対応する項目であり、図12の場合、2つの端点1251,1252に対応する2項目以外の、(N-2)個の他の項目すべてである。
 例えば、図12に示すように、仮選択状態の項目がブロック1210(配列AR[0])に対応する項目であるとき、CPU 101は、配列AR[0]に対応する項目の紹介画像1220(イルカ)を、表示位置のY座標が紹介画像群1230の真ん中付近であり、且つ、表示位置のX座標がDである位置に配置する。
 もし仮選択状態の項目が1つ後の配列AR[1]に対応する項目に変更されると、図13に示すように、CPU 101は、配列AR[1]に対応する項目の紹介画像420(イヌ)を、表示位置のY座標が紹介画像群1230の真ん中付近であり、且つ、表示位置のX座標がDである位置に配置する。つまり、紹介画像1220(カメ),1220(イルカ),1220(イヌ),1220(ハリネズミ)が上側に1つずつ移動し、紹介画像1220(トリ)が新たに表示される。紹介画像1220N-1(シカ)は紹介画像群1230から除かれる。
 更に、CPU 101は、紹介画像群1230の表示位置を、矢印1300の向きに移動量ΔDだけ移動する。つまり、表示位置が最小の極項目1210に対応する配列AR[M]から、表示位置が最大の極項目1210に対応する配列AR[L]までの間(言い換えればメニュー1200を表す楕円の上半分)では、仮選択状態の項目が正の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群1230は右に移動する。また、仮選択状態の項目が負の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群1230は左に移動する。
 また、表示位置が最大の極項目1210に対応する配列AR[L]から、表示位置が最小の極項目1210に対応する配列AR[M]までの間(言い換えればメニュー1200を表す楕円の下半分)では、仮選択状態の項目が正の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群1230は左に移動する。また、仮選択状態の項目が負の向きに1つシフトすると、紹介画像群1230は右に移動する。
 本実施形態によれば、表示装置200は、ユーザが選択可能な複数の項目を、ユーザにとって見やすいように提示することができる。表示位置を移動する方向は、画面の上下方向ではなく、画面の左右方向であってもよい。また、本実施形態と上記実施形態を組み合わせることにより、画面の斜め方向に表示位置を移動させることも可能である。
(実施形態5)
 次に、本発明のその他の実施形態について説明する。上記各実施形態では極項目の数が2つであるが、本実施形態では極項目の数が3つ以上となり得る点で上記各実施形態と異なる。
 図14,図15,図16Aは、本実施形態の表示装置200によって表示される、項目の選択を受け付ける画面の構成例を説明するための図である。画面には、ユーザが操作可能なメニューとして、第1メニュー1410と第2メニュー1420の2つがある。図16Bは、表示位置の変化を説明するための図である。
 表示装置200は、ユーザによってあるいはCPU 101によって選択される楽曲を再生すると共に、選択された楽曲を用いた音楽ゲームを実行する。プレイヤーは、足譜と呼ばれるオブジェクトに合わせてボタンを押圧することにより、再生される楽曲に合わせてダンスができる。この音楽ゲームの詳細は、例えば、特許第3003851号公報に開示されている。
 ゲーム画面には、画面内に固定されている静止マークと、再生される楽曲に合わせて静止マークの位置に向かって移動する踏み位置指示マークと、が表示される。静止マークには、上下左右のいずれかの矢印の画像が描かれており、それぞれ、上下左右の4つのボタンのいずれかをプレイヤーが押圧すべきタイミングを指示するマークである。踏み位置指示マークには、上下左右のいずれかの矢印が描かれており、それぞれ、上下左右の4つのボタンに対応付けられている。静止マークと同じ位置に踏み位置指示マークが移動してきたときに、静止マークに描かれる矢印の向きに対応するボタンをプレイヤーが押圧すると、プレイヤーの点数が加算される。
 例えば、踏み位置指示マークが静止マークと重なる位置に移動してきたときに、移動してきた踏み位置指示マークに示される矢印に対応するボタンをプレイヤーが片足で押圧すると、再生されている楽曲に合った模範的なダンスステップを踏むことができるようになっている。本実施形態の表示装置200では、ユーザは、8種類の楽曲の中からいずれか1つの楽曲を自由に選択することができる。楽曲を選択するためのメニューが第1メニュー1410である。
 また、この音楽ゲームでは、踏み位置指示マークの配置パターンや踏み位置指示マークの数などに基づいて、ゲームの難易度が設定されている。本実施形態の表示装置200では、ユーザは、8種類の難易度の中からいずれか1つの難易度を自由に選択することができる。難易度を選択するためのメニューが第2メニュー1420である。
 つまり、ユーザは、第1メニュー1410と第2メニュー1420とを操作して、8種類の楽曲と8種類の難易度との自由な組み合わせ(この場合、組み合わせ総数は8×8=64種類)を選択することができる。以下、楽曲のことを「第1項目」と呼び、難易度のことを「第2項目」と呼ぶことがある。
 第1メニュー1410は、それぞれ楽曲と対応付けられている8つのブロック1411~1418から構成される。第2メニュー1420は、それぞれ難易度と対応付けられている8つのブロック1421~1428から構成される。
 CPU 101は、仮選択状態の楽曲と仮選択状態の難易度との組み合わせに応じて、紹介画像1430を所定の表示位置に表示する。例えば図14は、仮選択状態の楽曲が「1」、仮選択状態の難易度が「3」のときの画面を表している。
 図17は、仮選択状態の楽曲と仮選択状態の難易度との組み合わせと、紹介画像1430の種類及び表示位置と、の対応付けの構成例を示す図である。CPU 101は、組み合わせに応じて、紹介画像1430としてイルカ、イヌ、ネズミ、トリ、ネコ、ゾウ、シカ、カメのいずれかと、表示位置としてX座標とY座標(図17では(C,D)などと表記)と、を取得する。
 本実施形態では、図15に示すように、網の目状の軌道1500が画面内に設定されている。CPU 101は、仮選択状態の楽曲と仮選択状態の難易度との組み合わせに応じて、軌道1500に沿って紹介画像1430の表示位置を移動させる。軌道1500における線分同士の交点の位置が、表示位置の目標点になる。
 図15において、軌道1500全体のうち、交点1501~1505を結ぶ線分が示す部分軌道は、「楽曲が1番目に固定され、且つ、難易度が1番目から8番目まで変化する」ときに描かれる、表示位置の軌道である。交点1501,1505の2つが、極項目に対応付けられる表示位置であり、その他は通常項目に対応付けられる表示位置である。紹介画像1430は、選択される難易度(第2項目)に応じて、この部分軌道上を左右に振動するように移動する。
 図15において、軌道1500全体のうち、交点1502,1506~1509を結ぶ線分が示す部分軌道は、「楽曲が1番目から8番目まで変化し、且つ、難易度が2番目(又は8番目)に固定される」ときに描かれる、表示位置の軌道である。交点1502,1509の2つが、極項目に対応付けられる表示位置であり、その他は通常項目に対応付けられる表示位置である。紹介画像1430は、選択される楽曲(第1項目)に応じて、この部分軌道上を上下に振動するように移動する。
 すなわち、交点1502は、極項目に対応付けられる表示位置になり得るばかりでなく、通常項目に対応付けられる表示位置ともなり得る。交点1503,1504も同様である。図15に示す25個の交点のうち、黒丸で示した交点が極項目に対応付けられる表示位置となり得るものであり、白丸で示した交点が常に通常項目に対応付けられる表示位置である。
 なお、軌道1500は、極項目の数が2である部分軌道の集合と解釈することができる。
 例えば、図16Aは、「仮選択状態の楽曲が1番目、且つ、仮選択状態の難易度が3番目」の状態(変化前)から、「仮選択状態の楽曲が2番目、且つ、仮選択状態の難易度が4番目」の状態(変化後)へ、と変化した場合における画面の変化を説明するための図である。
 変化前において、CPU 101は、図17に示される組み合わせ表から、「紹介画像がイルカ、表示位置が(C,D)」を選択する。
 一方、変化後において、CPU 101は、図17に示される組み合わせ表から、「紹介画像がイヌ、表示位置が(C,D)」を選択する。
 CPU 101は、紹介画像1430の表示位置を、軌道1500に沿って矢印1610の向きに変位(D-D)、軌道1500に沿って矢印1620の向きに変位(C-C)だけ、移動する。
 より詳細には、図16Bに示すように、CPU 101は、紹介画像1430を、ベクトル1661で描かれる軌跡で移動させた後、ベクトル1662で描かれる軌跡で移動させ、「3頭のイルカ」から「4頭のイヌ」の画像に変更する。
 なお、CPU 101は、紹介画像1430を、ベクトル1661とベクトル1662を合成して得られるベクトル1663で描かれる軌跡で移動させてもよい。この場合、軌道1500は、図15に示される網の目状の形状ではなく、任意の2つの交点を結ぶ線分の集合である。
 本実施形態によれば、表示装置200は、ユーザが選択可能な複数の項目を、ユーザにとって見やすいように提示することができる。ユーザは、複数の項目から構成される第1項目と、複数の項目から構成される第2項目と、のそれぞれから、任意の項目を選択することができる。ユーザは、第1項目と第2項目のそれぞれから所望の項目を簡単に選んで組み合わせることができる。
 本発明は、上述した実施形態に限定されず、種々の変形及び応用が可能である。また、上述した実施形態の各構成要素を自由に組み合わせることも可能である。
 図18Aは、表示装置200によって表示される画面の構成の変形例を示す図である。配列AR[0]~AR[7]の項目にそれぞれ対応するブロック1810~1810から構成されるメニュー1800と、軌道1840上を移動する紹介画像群(マーク画像)1830は、互いに重ならないように配置される。
 図18Bは、ブロック1810~1810に対応する表示位置(ブロック表示位置)Y~Yを、所定の基準軸1850に射影した位置を表す図である。各ブロック表示位置は、基準軸1850の左から順に、{Y,Y,Y,Y,Y,Y,Y,Y}の順番で並んでいる。
 図18Cは、紹介画像群1830の表示位置(マーク表示位置)C~Cを、基準軸1850に射影した位置を表す図である。各マーク表示位置は、基準軸1850の左から順に、{C,C,C,C,C,C,C,C}の順番に並んでいる。
 図18B,図18Cに示すように、ブロック表示位置を基準軸1850に射影したときの項目の順番は、マーク表示位置を基準軸1850に射影したときの項目の順番と同じである。
 図18A~図18Cに示すように画面を構成すれば、ブロック1810~1810のどれが選択されていても(どの項目が選択されていても)、紹介画像群1830が隠れてしまう(隠されてしまう)ことがないので、ユーザにとって更に見やすい画面を提供することができる。
 なお、基準軸1850の定義の仕方は任意である。射影の仕方は任意である。基準軸1850の位置、長さ、形状等は、軌道1840の位置、長さ、形状等と同じであってもよい。軌道1840を基準軸1850にしてもよい。
 表示装置200の全部又は一部としてコンピュータを動作させるためのプログラムを、メモリカード、CD-ROM、DVD、MO(Magneto Optical disk)などのコンピュータ読み取り可能な記録媒体に格納して配布し、これを別のコンピュータにインストールし、上述の手段として動作させ、あるいは、上述の工程を実行させてもよい。
 さらに、インターネット上のサーバ装置が有するディスク装置等にプログラムを格納しておき、例えば、搬送波に重畳させて、コンピュータにダウンロード等するものとしてもよい。
 なお、本願については、日本国特許願 特願2009-47763号を基礎とする優先権を主張し、当該基礎出願の内容をすべて本願にとりこむものとする。
 以上説明したように、本発明によれば、ユーザにとって見やすいように項目を提示し、また、ユーザが所望の項目を選択しやすくするために好適な表示装置、表示方法、情報記録媒体、ならびに、プログラムを提供することができる。

Claims (12)

  1.  巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるマーク表示位置を記憶する表示位置記憶部(201)と、
     前記複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目を記憶する注目項目記憶部(202)と、
     前記現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶されるマーク表示位置にマーク画像を表示する表示部(203)と、
     を備え、
     前記記憶されるマーク表示位置は、所定の往復軌道上に配置され、
     前記複数の項目は、前記往復軌道上において、当該項目のマーク表示位置が、当該項目の前の項目のマーク表示位置と、当該項目の後の項目のマーク表示位置と、に
    (a)挟まれる項目(以下、「通常項目」という。)と、
    (b)挟まれない項目(以下、「極項目」という。)と、
    からなり、前記極項目の数は2である、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  2.  請求項1に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記表示位置記憶部(201)は、前記複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるブロック表示位置を更に記憶し、
     前記記憶されるブロック表示位置は、所定の周回軌道上に配置され、
     前記記憶されるブロック表示位置のそれぞれを所定の基準線に射影した位置の順番は、前記記憶されるマーク表示位置のそれぞれの順番と合致し、
     前記表示部(203)は、前記複数の項目のそれぞれについて、当該項目に対応付けられるブロック画像を、前記記憶されるブロック表示位置に、更に表示し、
     前記表示部(203)は、前記複数の項目のうち前記現在注目されている項目に対応付けられるブロック画像を、強調して表示する、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  3.  請求項1に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記記憶されるマーク表示位置は互いに異なる、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  4.  請求項3に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記2つの極項目で挟まれる区間内の通常項目に対応付けられるマーク表示位置を示す座標値は、単調増加又は単調減少する、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  5.  請求項3に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記複数の項目の隣り合う2つのマーク表示位置の間隔は一定である、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  6.  請求項3に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記記憶されるマーク表示位置の、前記軌道上の所定の基準点からの変位は、前記順序の変化の大きさに比例して増加する位相を有する三角関数を用いて表される、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  7.  請求項1に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記表示部(203)は、前記マーク画像として、前記現在注目されている項目を表す画像を表示する、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  8.  請求項1に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記表示部(203)は、前記マーク画像として、前記現在注目されている項目を表す画像と、前記現在注目されている項目の前後の所定個数分の他の項目を表す画像と、を表示する、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  9.  請求項8に記載の表示装置(200)であって、
     前記表示部(203)は、前記マーク画像として、前記現在注目されている項目を表す画像を、前記現在注目されている項目の前後の所定個数分の他の項目を表す画像よりも相対的に強調して表示する、
     ことを特徴とする表示装置(200)。
  10.  記憶部(201、202)を有する表示装置(200)にて実行される表示方法であって、
     前記記憶部(201、202)には、巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるマーク表示位置と、前記複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目と、が記憶され、
     前記現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶されるマーク表示位置にマーク画像を表示する表示ステップ、
     を備え、
     前記記憶されるマーク表示位置は、所定の往復軌道上に配置され、
     前記複数の項目は、前記往復軌道上において、当該項目のマーク表示位置が、当該項目の前の項目のマーク表示位置と、当該項目の後の項目のマーク表示位置と、に
    (a)挟まれる項目(以下、「通常項目」という。)と、
    (b)挟まれない項目(以下、「極項目」という。)と、
    からなり、前記極項目の数は2である、
     ことを特徴とする表示方法。
  11.  コンピュータを、
     巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるマーク表示位置を記憶する表示位置記憶部(201)、
     前記複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目を記憶する注目項目記憶部(202)、
     前記現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶されるマーク表示位置にマーク画像を表示する表示部(203)、
     として機能させ、
     前記記憶されるマーク表示位置は、所定の往復軌道上に配置され、
     前記複数の項目は、前記往復軌道上において、当該項目のマーク表示位置が、当該項目の前の項目のマーク表示位置と、当該項目の後の項目のマーク表示位置と、に
    (a)挟まれる項目(以下、「通常項目」という。)と、
    (b)挟まれない項目(以下、「極項目」という。)と、
    からなり、前記極項目の数は2である、
     ことを特徴とするプログラムを格納するコンピュータ読み取り可能な情報記録媒体。
  12.  コンピュータを、
     巡回的な順序が定められた複数の項目のそれぞれに対応付けられるマーク表示位置を記憶する表示位置記憶部(201)、
     前記複数の項目のうち現在注目されている項目を記憶する注目項目記憶部(202)、
     前記現在注目されている項目に対応付けられて記憶されるマーク表示位置にマーク画像を表示する表示部(203)、
     として機能させ、
     前記記憶されるマーク表示位置は、所定の往復軌道上に配置され、
     前記複数の項目は、前記往復軌道上において、当該項目のマーク表示位置が、当該項目の前の項目のマーク表示位置と、当該項目の後の項目のマーク表示位置と、に
    (a)挟まれる項目(以下、「通常項目」という。)と、
    (b)挟まれない項目(以下、「極項目」という。)と、
    からなり、前記極項目の数は2である、
     ことを特徴とするプログラム。
