Definitions

  • the present invention regards a cryogenic tank for a vessel according to the preamble.
  • cryogenic tanks With regards to leakages. Such leakages will arise if the tank is subjected to dynamic loads, giving rise to tensions leading to growth of cracks in the material. Dynamic loads can arise as a consequence of direct loads on the tank or as a consequence of dynamic deflections of supporting structure. Cryogenic tanks are also subjected to significant deflections due to large temperature variations and this must be possible to be handled without introduction of too high loads in the tank. It is also important to exploit available volumes to the greatest possible extent and have a reasonable partitioning of tanks with regards to redundancy and maintenance and the tank must be designed with this respect. In some cases it is also important that the area above the tank can be exploited, that it the tank should be possible to be built in under for instance a deck with equipment.
  • cryogenic tanks There are different types of cryogenic tanks with different design and support that solve most of the limitations and disadvantages described above.
  • figure 1 shows a vertical section through a tank according to the invention
  • figure 2 shows a detailed part of the connection between the cylindrical part of the tank and the flat bottom of the tank.
  • the tank comprises a vertical positioned cylindrical wall 1 with top 7 and a horizontal bottom 2.
  • the tank is supported with a cylindrical skirt 9 between the top of the tank 7 and an upper foundation 10.
  • the load bearing isolation 6 transmits only vertical forces from the tank.
  • Horizontal forces are transmitted from the tank via a horizontal ring 3 to a circular or polygonal skirt 4 which again transmits the horizontal forces to the lower foundation 5.
  • the horizontal ring 3 is flexible in vertical direction so that vertical forces from the tank are transmitted as an evenly distributed pressure to the load bearing isolation 6, while the horizontal forces are transmitted via the horizontal ring 3 to the circular skirt 4.
  • Bracket plates 11 can, if necessary, be positioned in the transition between the cylindrical wall 1 of the tank and the horizontal bottom 2 of the tank.
  • the bracket plates 11 are designed so that they give a soft transmission of forces from the cylindrical wall 1 to the horizontal bottom 2.
  • the bracket plates 1 1 are attached against brace 12 to the cylindrical wall 1 and to brace 13 to the horizontal bottom 2.
  • the horizontal ring 3 is provided with a circular skirt 14 that constitutes means for collection of cryogenic fluid that may leak from the tank.
  • a material layer 15 that will withstand the cryogenic fluids, between the two isolation layers and that extends outside the upper isolation layer 6 to a skirt 8 that will constitute a secondary means for collection for cryogenic fluid that may leak from the tank.
  • the standing cryogenic tank will, according to the invention, with a cylindrical design, combine efficient load absorption from the tank and the contents of the tank with efficient exploitation of available volume.
