L'objectif de l'invention est d'obtenir un travail en continu "depuis le rouleau" sans modification d'étirage. A cet effet, on utilise un rouleau de réserve (13) sur lequel est enroulé l'élément (12) en forme de ruban, on fait passer le support (11) en forme de bande dans le sens de sa longueur et à une vitesse prédéterminée devant un site d'application (AO), on détecte une position d'application de l'élément (12) en forme de ruban sur le support (11) en forme de bande, on déroule l'élément (12) en forme de ruban du rouleau de réserve (13) en fonction de la position détectée sur le support (11) en forme de bande, les repères de commande (30, 31, 32) de l'élément (12) en forme de ruban étant détectés et, à partir des repères de commande (30, 31, 32) détectés, le positionnement longitudinal de l'élément (12) en forme de ruban étant déterminé, et on découpe en position précise une longueur prédéterminée de l'élément (12) en forme de ruban déroulé, on transfère cette dernière en position précise sur le support (11) en forme de bande et on l'y applique de manière synchronisée.
