Description
TOILET DEVICE FOR A NURSING BED
This invention relates to a toilet device for a nursing bed. More particularly, it relates to a nursing bed which includes a back part, a seat part and a foot part, the parts being pivotal to enable the formation of a chair-like form, and a bedpan being placed underneath the seat part .
By a bedpan is meant, in this connection, any container which is arranged to receive urine and faeces.
It is often both difficult and heavy to help bedridden persons during toilet visits. To some, so-called toilet chairs may be of help, whereas others must use a bedpan while lying in bed.
It is known to provide a nursing bed with a cut-out in the mattress, in which a bedpan may be positioned after a mattress portion placed in the cut-out has been removed.
GB 2260263 thus discloses a bed which may take a chair- like form by pivoting of the back part and foot part, and in which a bedpan may be put into an opening in the mattress at the seat part .
The patient is still dependent on help in order to get ready, because underwear must be removed. Necessary subsequent cleaning is also conditional upon the presence of personnel.
„
The invention has for its object to remedy or reduce at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art .
The object is achieved through features which are specified in the description below and in the claims that follow.
A nursing bed including a back part, a seat part and a foot part is provided, the parts being pivotal to enable the formation of a chair-like form, and a bedpan being positioned underneath the seat part. The nursing bed is characterized by the seat part including at least a movable middle portion and two side portions, the side portions being movable in height relative to the middle portion.
The middle portion may thereby be relieved by the patent's weight having been transferred to the side portions, after which the middle portion may be moved horizontally to uncover the bedpan.
The side portions may be liftable and lowerable nearest to the middle portion by being pivoted around an axis which is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the nursing bed. Alternatively, the middle portion may be liftable and lowerable .
In the usual way, the various parts of the bed include a mattress or mattress parts.
The middle portion may be provided with a sleeping- surface cover which may constitute the only cloth between the middle portion and the patient.
The sleeping-surface cover may be constituted by a piece of fabric which is provided with an elastic band, a hook-and- loop fastener, press studs or the like along its edge portion. The sleeping-surface cover is thus easily replaceable.
The sleeping-surface cover may be pulled over the middle portion and stay there as the middle portion is moved relative to the side portions. The sleeping-surface cover may include one or more layers .
The different layers may include tight layers and layers that are soft for enhanced comfort . One or more of the layers may be of a reusable type or a disposable type which is just thrown away after use .
The bedpan may be provided with a sealing, removable lid. It is advantageous that the lid is connected to the middle portion so that the lid is moved away from the bedpan together with the middle portion and back into its sealing position when the middle portion is moved back into its initial position.
With advantage, the lid may be somewhat wedge-shaped, so that, when being moved in over the bedpan, it seals well against the bedpan.
Necessary, subsequent cleaning may be carried out by means of a bidet -like washing device, after which drying can be done by means of warm air.
The device according to the invention makes it possible for a patient, by means of machine elements and controls known per se, to be self-reliant during toilet visits. For example, a relatively simple control can make the bed ready for a toilet visit, by the patient him-/herself starting a cycle in which the back and foot parts turn the bed into a chair- like form, after which the side portions lift the patient up from the middle portion. Then the middle portion together with the sleeping-surface cover, constituting the only cloth between the middle portion and the patient, is moved away. The bedpan is thereby uncovered and in position.
When the patient is finished, cleaning and drying can be carried out before the components of the bed are moved back into their respective initial positions.
In what follows is described an example of a preferred embodiment which is visualized in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows schematically, in perspective, the back part, seat part and foot part of a nursing bed and also a bedpan which is placed underneath the seat part;
Figure 2 shows schematically, in perspective, the parts of figure 1 after they have been partly prepared for a toilet visit;
Figure 3 shows schematically, in perspective, the nursing bed of figure 1 ready for use of the bedpan; and
Figure 4 shows in perspective a sleeping-surface cover just before it is pulled over the middle portion.
In the drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates a nursing bed including a back part 2, a seat part 4 and a foot part 6. The undercarriage, the control and the actuators of the nursing bed 1 are not shown.
The seat part 4 comprises a middle portion 8 and two side portions 10. A bedpan 12 is placed underneath the seat part 4.
The middle portion 8 is provided with a sleeping-surface cover 14, see figure 4. The sleeping-surface cover may form the only cloth between the middle portion 8 and the patient not shown .
Each of the side portions 10 is pivotal around a respective
pivot axis 16. By pivoting the side portions 10 somewhat upwards around the respective pivot axes 16, a patient, not shown, sitting on the seat part 4 will be lifted up somewhat from the middle portion 8.
The middle portion 8, together with the sleeping-surface cover 14 , can thereby be moved out under the back part 2 , whereby the bedpan 12 is uncovered, see figure 3.
When the patient, not shown, is finished, the nursing bed 1 may be brought into its initial position by carrying out the operations in reverse order.
The pivoting and moving of the components 2, 6, 8 and 10 may be carried out manually in a manner known per se, or by the control, not shown, and associated actuators.
