Abstract

The seat has a frame (1) and a cover (2) to encompass the frame and has a backrest with a front side (3) and a back side (4). The covering is implemented in the back side in such a way that an accessible cavity (5) is formed from outside with the front side turned towards inner layer (2'') and opposite to external layer (7). A bolster (8) is detachably fastened at one of the layers on which a force is exercisable by locked cavity.

Description

ORIGINAL
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention Title: "SEAT, IN PARTICULAR FOR A PRAM" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: |0 TITLE:
O
OSEAT, IN PARTICULAR FOR A PRAM The invention relates to a seat, in particular for a pram, for example a rehabilitation pram or a wheelchair, having a seat back comprising a frame and a covering encompassing the frame with a front side and a rear side.
OThe person sitting in the seat is supported by the back at the front side of the seat. A seat is known for example from GB 426 463 A.
00 oO In particular for handicapped people who use the seat not only for a short time the seat back must be adapted to the individual anatomy to avoid pressure points. Also, the posture of the handicapped user must be corrected or supported individually. For this, the handicapped person is lifted off the seat back, upholstered pads are put in position and the person is placed back on the seat back. Before the individual cushioning is actually suitable the position of the upholstered pads must be corrected frequently so that the procedure of lifting up and putting down the person back on the seat back likewise must be undertaken frequently, which is not only unpleasant for the person concerned, but can also be very arduous and energy-sapping for the helper, depending on the degree to which the person concerned is handicapped.
Based on this problem the seat described at the outset is to be improved to the extent where the individual padding of the seat back can easily be carried out for correcting and/or supporting faulty posture.
To solve this problem a generic seat is distinguished in that the covering of the seat back is executed such that a cavity accessible from outside with a inner layer facing the front side and a outer layer opposite the latter is created, and upholstered pads can be attached detachably at least to one of the layers, on which a force can be exerted when the cavity is closed.
00 This configuration enables the seat back to be padded from behind, 0 0 whereby the sites to be padded can be recognised immediately by the helper, e because there is no bodily contact with the covering there or a lack of bodily contact can be felt out. The upholstered pad Is then attached at the site to be 5 padded. After the cavity is closed the back is then correspondingly supported by the force exerted on the upholstered pads.
SThe outer layer can preferably be attached by means of at least one zipper at the rear side. The cavity can therefore be opened and closed 0 quickly and easily.
If the outer layer is connected undetachably to the covering at an edge, preferably the upper edge, the cavity can be opened like a suitcase and also easily reclosed.
A zipper can be provided on each longitudinal edge. The zipper can also be designed circumferential on three edges, so that the cavity is fully sealed off. At the top the outer layer is connected to the covering, for example sewn and then can be closed circumferentially via the zippers.
If the upholstered pads are attached by means of Velcro the padding can easily be formed and also modified, if a handicapped child has grown up, for example.
The upholstered pads are preferably attached to the inside of the cavity so that the force to be exerted is applied by the closable outside (the cover) of the cavity.
To facilitate individual fitting the upholstered pads are preferably of differing sizes.
In order to increase or reinforce the force to be applied to the upholstered pads or respectively to equalise the pressure exerted on the pad 00 mould plates are preferably attached to the outer layer, which press on the upholstered pads when the outer layer is fully connected to the covering and e the cavity is therefore closed.
5 An embodiment of the invention will now be described in greater detail by means of a diagram, in which: SFigure 1 is a perspective illustration of the seat back from the rear side with open cavity; 00 1 oo SFigure 2 is an illustration of the seat back as in Figure 1 with closed cavity; Figure 3 is another illustration of the seat back; Figure 4 shows the section along line A-A as in Figure 3.
In the figures only the seat back per se is illustrated. The seating area must be added in to make up the complete seat.
The seat back 0 comprises the frame 1 and the covering 2 made of material or towelling tensed around the frame 1. The person P using the seat is supported on the front side 3 of the seat back 0 by his or her back. A cavity is configured on the rear side 4, formed by the inner layer 2" supporting the back, the side parts 2' and the outer layer 7 connecting to the side parts 2' via the zipper 6. Upholstered pads 8 of different sizes can be attached to the inner layer 2" by way of Velcro fasteners, not illustrated in greater detail here.
Provided on the inside 7' of the outer layer 7 is a plurality of mould plates 9 which, when the outer layer 7 is connected via the zippers 6 to the side parts exert a force on the upholstered pads 8 and equalise the exerted pressure. As Figure 4 shows, it is feasible to employ only a single mould plate 9' to substantially cover the full surface of the outer layer 7.
