- the present invention contemplates the construction of an incubation nest (1), the incubator and the processes that eliminate the inconveniences hitherto observed in the embryonic development of octopuses under controlled conditions.
- the nest ( Figure 1) consists of a rectangular or trapezoidal body box (1) where the lid (2) is wider than the base and consisting of base (3), rear wall (4) and side walls, end front open and a sliding cover on the top.
- the nest In the part upper of the side walls, the nest has channels (5) that run along the edges of the box where the cover is housed through sliding. The channels are rigid enough to allow sliding and support of the lid, in addition to stiffening the box structure.
- the rear wall of the nest (4) is fixed and serves as a stop to the sliding cover. This wall can have perforations or grooves that facilitate the circulation of water inside the box.
- the sliding cover (2) on its inner face has an irregular rough surface. The depth of the roughness can be random or in a defined pattern and with a variable depth of between 1 and 5 mm.
- the box has an open end which allows the entry and exit of the octopus.
- the lid also has two handles (6) that allow better handling thereof.
- the box has the following dimensions: between 25 and 35 cm long, between 15 and 25 cm wide and between 15 and 25 cm high.
- the dimensions of the box can change in relation to the size of octopus, squid, cephalopods in general or similar species.
- the incubator ( Figure 2) consists of rectangular trapezoidal cross-section tanks (7) that have a support eyebrow (8) on the upper edge that projects into the box and serves to receive the nest cover. These same eyebrows have a perimeter edge (9) and in their lower part they serve as a support element of the box.
- the incubator has a distributor that feeds seawater (10).
- This distributor can be a perforated tube, a hose, shower or some other implement that allows to distribute the water in different positions.
- the water distributor can be placed on the surface or at the height that is required depending on the species being handled.
- This distributor may consist of a perforated tube (11) closed at its ends placed across the width of the incubator. This tube is fed in its middle part by a tube that is regulated by a feed valve (12).
- the distributor Water flowing through the distributor is controlled by a stopcock (12). At its other end it has a tube which works as a drain (13) which also serves to maintain the water level. Also at the end where the water distributor is located, the incubator has a tube coupled to an elbow ( Figure 3) (14) which has a perforation in the upper part (15) in which a hose is placed ( 16) that conducts a constant air flow to porous body (17) that serves to create a flow of air bubbles, as well as an air and water distribution element called "air lift" ( Figure 3).
- the drain consists of a tube placed at the opposite end of the distributor that is connected to a water collection system that leads to a closed container (18) from which it is pumped into a heat exchanger, an ultraviolet light lamp and a filter deep bed preferably filled with anthracite (60%) and gravel (15%) (not shown), leaving the rest of the volume empty.
- the collecting tank has a pump (19) and a recirculation system controlled by a valve whose effect is to avoid forcing the pump (20).
- An advantage of the design of incubation tanks is that they are stackable and take up little space when stored.
- the water recirculation process begins with the water that arrives from the drain (13), which is an outer tube of the incubator through which the excess water from the incubator (7) is spilled.
- the excess water is taken to the closed tank (18) to be subsequently pumped (19) to the heat exchanger (28), where the water is maintained at the specified temperature.
- the water passes through an ultraviolet light lamp (29) where bacteria and pathogenic microorganisms are eliminated.
- the water is taken to the deep bed filter (30) where the ammonium, nitrite and nitrate molecules are retained thanks to the characteristic of the anthracite filtrate (3 to 5 microns).
- the treated water feeds the incubator again.
- the incubation process lasts approximately 45 to 55 days, however this varies for each species; The proportion of births is equivalent to 90-94% of the total eggs incubated.
