Abstract

본 발명은 백라이트 유닛의 소비전력을 감소시키고 광원의 수명을 연장시킬 수 있는 백라이트 유닛 및 이를 포함하는 액정표시장치에 관한 것이다. 이를 위한 본 발명은, 제1편광의 광은 투과시키고 제2편광의 광은 흡수하는 흡수편광막을 포함한 액정표시장치에 사용되는 백라이트 유닛에 있어서, 각각 R,G,B 랜덤편광을 발생시키는 다수의 R,G,B LED 광원; 및 상기 LED 광원에서 발생 되는 R,G,B 랜덤편광 중 적어도 하나의 랜덤편광에 대해서 그 제1편광의 광은 투과시키고 제2편광의 광은 반사시키며, 나머지 랜덤편광에 대해서는 그 제1 및 제2 편광의 광을 투과시켜 상기 흡수편광막으로 출사시키는 반사편광필름; 을 포함하며, 적어도 하나의 LED 광원에 입력되는 에너지, 예를 들어 전류의 세기가 나머지 다른 LED 광원에 입력되는 에너지, 예를 들어 전류의 세기보다 작은 것을 특징으로 한다.
