Description

Description
MAKE-UP BRUSH
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a makeup brush, and more particularly, to a makeup brush comprising a handle section having a support part formed at the center portion of the inner surface thereof to support and fasten one end of an applicator rod, the applicator rod extending from the center portion of the inner surface of the handle section by a predetermined distance and having the one end fastened by the support part of the handle section and the other end defined with a groove in which a brush is set, the brush having one end set in the groove which is defined in the applicator rod, and a hollow tube fitted onto the applicator rod and having a distal end portion which surrounds the middle portion of the brush. Background Art
[2] As is generally known in the art, cosmetics are divided into solid cosmetics such as lipstick, blush and eye shadow and liquid cosmetics such as lip gloss and nail polish. When using these cosmetics, application implements having the form of brushes are employed.
[3] FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a conventional makeup brush for applying solid cosmetics, and FIG. 2 is a perspective view illustrating a conventional makeup brush for applying liquid cosmetics.
[4] Referring to FIG. 1, a makeup brush 10, which is used when applying solid cosmetics such as lipstick, blush and eye shadow, includes an applicator rod 14 which serves as a handle, a brush 17, and a coupling member 19 which couples the brush 17 to the applicator rod 14.
[5] The coupling member 19 is made of a metallic material and has a hollow configuration. The coupling member 19 has one end into which the applicator rod 14 is fitted and the other end to which the brush 17 is fitted and fixed. When the brush 17 is set in the end of the applicator rod 14, the end of the applicator rod 14 is pressed by a press (not shown) to have a flattened shape. By this fact, the brush 17 is also flattened to have a corresponding flat sectional shape. When applying cosmetics using the makeup brush 10 constructed in this way, since the brush 17 is fastened to the applicator rod 14 by way of the coupling member 19 in the flattened state, the brush 17 is prevented from being released and the cosmetics can be appropriately applied by the brush 17.
[6] Because the coupling member 19 for coupling the applicator rod 14 and the brush 17 to each other is made of a metallic material such as aluminum and copper, when applying lipstick having a solid form and blush or eye shadow having a powdered form, only the brush 17 comes into contact with the cosmetics, and therefore, no negative influence is exerted by the brush 17. However, if the makeup brush 10 is employed to apply liquid cosmetics, as the coupling member 19 comes into contact with liquid cosmetics, the metallic coupling member 19 and the liquid cosmetics are likely to chemically react with each other, whereby the liquid cosmetics can be contaminated and cause side effects.
[7] Referring to FIG. 2, in order to cope with this problem, a makeup brush 20 for applying liquid cosmetics such as lip gloss and nail polish includes a cylindrical applicator rod 24 which is integrated with or coupled to a handle 23, and a brush 27 which is inserted into and fastened to the lower end of the applicator rod 24. The applicator rod 24 is made of synthetic resin so that a chemical reaction does not occur even when the applicator rod 24 comes into contact with liquid cosmetics, so that the act of putting on makeup can be adequately executed. Since the liquid cosmetics such as lip gloss and nail polish can be solidified due to their characteristics when they are exposed to external air, they are generally accommodated in a container 22 having a narrow mouth so that a minimum amount of external air can be introduced into the container 22. The applicator rod 24 is formed long such that the lower end of the brush 27 set in and fastened to the applicator rod 24 is brought into contact with the bottom of the container 22 when the applicator rod 24 is inserted into the container 22. Furt her, the applicator rod 24 has a diameter that allows the applicator rod 24 to be inserted and removed through the mouth of the container 22. Therefore, by repeatedly inserting the applicator rod 24 into the container 22, when the brush 27 is sufficiently dipped into the liquid cosmetics accommodated in the container 22, the makeup brush 20 can be removed from the container 22 and the liquid cosmetics can be applied to a desired portion of the human body.
[8] In the makeup brush 20 constructed as mentioned above, since the brush 27 is set in and fastened to the lower end of the applicator rod 24 having a cylindrical configuration, the brush 27 has a circular transverse sectional shape similar to the applicator rod 24. In the state in which the brush 27 is set in and fastened to the lower end of the applicator rod 24, since the upper end of the brush 27 is secured inside the applicator rod 24, a gap is created between the brush 27 placed in the applicator rod 24 and the inner surface of the applicator rod 24. As a consequence, when applying makeup using the makeup brush 20, as the force applied by a user increases, the brush 27 is likely to bend outward, and the makeup brush 20 can apply cosmetics while being deviated from a desired place. In this regard, the makeup brush 20 can be appropriately employed due to the characteristics of the brush 27 having the circular transverse sectional shape when applying cosmetics over a wide area without beautifying a specific portion in a detailed manner. Nevertheless, in such a case as applying lip gloss to a lip using the makeup brush 20, because bristles 28 of the brush 27 are likely to excessively bend outward, the makeup brush 20 can deviate from the lip and be erroneously applied to the skin.
[9] Also, in the makeup brush 20, because the brush 27 should be dipped into the liquid cosmetics every time the makeup brush 20 is used, the makeup brush 20 should be frequently inserted into and taken out of the container 22. In this connection, as the bristles 28 of the brush 27 frequently interfere with the mouth of the container 22, they are likely to be bent outward, twisted or lost. If the liquid cosmetics are applied with the bristles 28 bent outward, since the cosmetics can be applied to an inappropriate portion of the human body, it is necessary to rub out and reapply the cosmetics, which can lead to irritation. Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem
[10] Accordingly, the present invention has been made in an effort to solve the problems occurring in the related art, and an object of the present invention is to provide a makeup brush which can prevent bristles constituting a brush and connected to an applicator rod from being tangled, bent outward or twisted while the applicator rod is frequently inserted into and removed out of a cosmetic container when the brush is dipped into liquid cosmetics. Technical Solution
[11] In order to achieve the above object, according to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a makeup brush comprising a handle section having a support part formed at a center portion of an inner surface thereof to support and fasten one end of an applicator rod; the applicator rod extending from the center portion of the inner surface of the handle section by a predetermined distance and having the one end fastened by the support part of the handle section and the other end defined with a groove in which a brush is set; the brush having one end set in the groove which is defined in the applicator rod; and a hollow tube fitted onto the applicator rod and having a distal end portion which surrounds a middle portion of the brush.
[12] According to another aspect of the present invention, the distal end portion of the tube has a taper part to densify bristles of the brush.
[13] According to another aspect of the present invention, the distal end of the tube has a circular cross-sectional shape.
[14] According to another aspect of the present invention, the distal end of the tube has a flat cross-sectional shape.
[15] According to still another aspect of the present invention, a portion of the tube further extends from an end of the taper part by a preselected length while maintaining the same diameter as the end of the taper part.
[16] According to a still further aspect of the present invention, a protrusion is formed on the applicator rod to prevent the tube from being moved any more toward the handle section.
Advantageous Effects
[17] Thanks to the features of the present invention, it is possible to provide a makeup brush as a makeup implement for applying liquid cosmetics, which is prevented from being twisted or bent outward in the form of an umbrella even when a brush constituted by bristles is used for a lengthy period of time to apply liquid cosmetics contained in a cosmetic container to the skin.

Mode for the Invention [33] Hereafter, a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail in such a way as to enable any person having ordinary knowledge in the art to which it pertains, to make and use the same.
[34] FIG. 3 is a perspective view illustrating a makeup brush in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention.
[35] Referring to FIG. 3, a makeup brush 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention includes a handle section 110 for supporting an applicator rod 120, the applicator rod 120 extending from the inner surface of the handle section 110 by a predetermined distance and having an end defined with a groove 121 in which a brush 130 is set, the brush 130 having one end set in the groove 121 which is defined in the applicator rod 120, and a hollow tube 140 fitted onto and coupled to the brush 130 and the applicator rod 120.
[36] The handle section 110 is grasped by a user when the makeup brush 100 is used. In general, the handle section 110 is formed with an internal thread to be threadedly coupled with a cosmetic container (not shown) so that the handle section 110 can serve as the cap of the cosmetic container. The handle section 110 can be formed to have various sectional shapes such as a quadrangular shape and a circular shape, as is suitable for the purpose at hand.
[37] The applicator rod 120 having the predetermined length extends from the center portion of the inner surface of the handle section 110. One end of the applicator rod 120 is coupled to the handle section 110, and the other end of the applicator rod 120 is defined with the groove 121 in which the brush 130 can be set. It is preferred that the length of the applicator rod 120 be determined such that the other end of the brush 130 can nearly approach the bottom of the cosmetic container when the makeup brush 100 is threadedly coupled to the cosmetic container. The thickness of the applicator rod 120 must be less than the diameter of the mouth of the cosmetic container. A protrusion 122 is formed on the applicator rod 120 to designate a position where one end of the tube 140 for surrounding the applicator rod 120 is coupled to the applicator rod 120. The brush 130 is set in the groove 121 which is defined on the other end of the applicator rod 120. The brush 130 is composed of a sufficient amount of bristles so that the brush 130 is prevented from being released from the applicator rod 120 by the application of usual force.
[38] When applying makeup, the brush 130 comes into direct contact with a portion of the skin on which liquid cosmetics are to be applied, to accomplish a makeup effect. The brush 130 should have a shape and a size conforming to those of the groove 121 which is defined in the applicator rod 120.
[39] Since the brush 130 should be exposed outside of the tube 140 after it is surrounded by the tube 140 as will be described later, it is preferred that the brush 130 have a length greater than that of the conventional brush shown in FIG. 2. [40] After the brush 130 is set in the groove 121 defined in the applicator rod 120, the tube 140 is fitted onto the applicator rod 120 and the brush 130 set in the applicator rod
120 in such a way as to surround them. The tube 140 has a hollow configuration. The tube 140 has one end which is placed on the applicator rod 120 and the other end which is placed at an intermediate position between a portion of the brush 130 set in the applicator rod 120 and the distal end of the brush 130.
[41] One end of the tube 140 is placed against the protrusion 122 which is formed on the applicator rod 120 to prevent further movement towards the handle section 110. If the protrusion 122 is not formed on the applicator rod 120, as the tube 140 is continuously moved toward the handle section 110, the brush 130 which is fastened by the other end of the tube 140 is likely to be bent outward in the form of an umbrella, whereby it may be impossible to achieve the object of the present invention. The other end of the tube 140 should have a size that allows the tube 140 to apply pressure to the middle portion of the brush 130. The sectional shape of the other end of the tube 140, which determines the sectional shape of the brush 130, can be variously changed to have a circular, flattened or rectangular sectional shape as the purpose demands.
[42] The other end of the tube 140 can be formed to have a taper part 141 so that the tube
140 can be easily coupled to the applicator rod 120 and can be reliably fastened to the brush 130.
[43] FIG. 4 is a sectional view illustrating a brush coupling area in detail in the makeup brush according to the present invention.
[44] Referring to FIG. 4, due to the fact that one end of the brush 130 is set in the groove
121 defined in the applicator rod 120 and the middle portion of the brush 130 is fixed by the tube 140 having the taper part 141, the other end of the brush 130 can be highly compacted due to the application of pressure thereto. The one end of the brush 130 can be bonded together by an adhesive, etc. so that the brush 130 can be easily set in the groove 121. Since the middle portion of the brush 130 is fixed by the taper part 141 of the tube 140, the other end of the brush 130 as a part brought into direct contact with the skin can be compacted toward the center thereof.
[45] This is enabled by the fact that the brush 130 having a length greater than that of the conventional brush is employed and the middle portion of the brush 130 is fixedly pressed by the tube 140. As the other end of the tube 140 for fixing the middle portion of the brush 130 is formed to have the taper part 141, the bristles constituting the brush 130 can be further compacted toward the center of the brush 130. As a consequence, when using the makeup brush 100, it is possible to prevent the bristles from being bent outward in the form of an umbrella.
[46] Hereinbelow, the shapes of the tube which can be adopted in the makeup brush according to the present invention and the corresponding sectional shapes of the brush will be described in detail with reference to FIGs. 5 through 10.
[47]
[48] Example 1
[49] FIG. 5 is of a sectional view and a bottom view illustrating a makeup brush according to a first example of the present invention, and FIGs. 6 and 7 are perspective views illustrating tubes used in the makeup brush according to the first example of the present invention.
[50] Referring to these drawings, an applicator rod 120 is installed in a handle section 110 to extend a predetermined length, and a groove 121 is defined on the other end of the applicator rod 120 such that one end of a brush 130 can be set in the groove 121. The applicator rod 120 and the brush 130 are surrounded by a tube 140. One end of the tube 140 is fitted onto the applicator rod 120 up to the position of a protrusion 122 which is formed on the middle portion of the applicator rod 120, and the other end of the tube 140 encloses the middle portion of the brush 130.
[51] The other end of the tube 140 has a circular part 141b and a taper part 141 which is adjacent to the circular part 141b and gradually decreases in a diameter thereof in the downward direction, to support the middle portion of the brush 130. Also, it is conceivable that a portion of the tube 140 further extends from the end of the taper part 141 by a preselected length while having the same diameter as the end of the taper part 141.
[52] In this case, since one end of the brush 130 should be set in the groove 121 defined in the applicator rod 120 and the middle portion of the brush 130 should be surrounded by the taper part 141 of the tube 140 such that a preset length of the bristles are exposed to the outside, the brush 130 must have a length greater than that of the conventional brush shown in FIG. 2. The applicator rod 120 and the tube 140 can be made of various materials such as plastic and metal, as the purpose demands.
[53]
[54] Example 2
[55] FIG. 8 is of a sectional view and a bottom view illustrating a makeup brush according to a second example of the present invention, and FIGs. 9 and 10 are perspective views illustrating tubes used in the makeup brush according to the second example of the present invention.
[56] Referring to these drawings, this second example is constructed in substantially the same manner as the first example except that the second example can be adopted when it is necessary to use a flat type brush 130 as desired by a user. In this case, the exposed portion of the brush 130 should have a flat sectional shape. For this purpose, it is not necessary for the entire brush 130 to have the flat sectional shape. Instead, one end of the brush 130 having a circular sectional shape is set in the groove 121 defined in the applicator rod 120, and the other end of the tube 140, which surrounds the brush 130 and the applicator rod 120, is formed into a flat tube part 141a which has a flat sectional shape, so that the other end of the brush 130 can have a corresponding flat sectional shape.
[57] That is to say, the other end of the tube 140 can be formed into the flat tube part 141a which has longitudinal and transverse sides of different lengths in a manner such that the size of the flat tube part 141a gradually decreases in the downward direction to form a taper part 141. Also, it is conceivable that a portion of the tube 140 further extends from the end of the taper part 141 by a preselected length while having the same diameter as the end of the taper part 141.
[58] Although a preferred embodiment of the present invention has been described for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying claims.
