  • Osteosynthetic implant for implantation in the human or animal body
  • the invention relates to an osteosynthetic implant referred to in the preamble of claim 1 for implantation in the human or animal body.
  • osteosynthetic implants are well known, for example in the form of screws, plates or nails. They are used in particular in the treatment of bone fractures and serve to stabilize and / or hold together bone parts. Because of its excellent strength, Titanium is often used as the material for the implants. The disadvantage here, however, is that the implant must be removed after a healing of a bone fracture and for this purpose a surgical procedure is required.
  • EP 1 835 042 A1 discloses an osteosynthetic implant of the type in question for implantation in the human or animal body, which has a base body which consists at least partially of an in vivo degradable magnesium alloy.

Due to the fact that the magnesium alloy according to the invention, which is also referred to below as alloy for short, is substantially free of aluminum, the compatibility with respect to the organism into which the implant has been introduced is substantially increased. This is particularly the case because, according to the current state of science, aluminum is suspected of being toxic in the human or animal body and in particular of causing or promoting neurological damage. For example, aluminum is suspected of causing or promoting Alzheimer's disease. Due to the fact that the magnesium alloy used according to the invention does not contain aluminum or only in low mass contents contains, corresponding effects are avoided.
