- the light emission intensity by the light source 11 gradually increases from the left to the right (along the positive direction of the X axis) between the five unit light source units 10K adjacent to each other.
- a light emission intensity distribution that is strong is formed.
- the light sources 11 arranged on different side surfaces facing each other have the light emission intensity of the right light source 11 greater than or equal to the light emission intensity of the left light source 11. Is preferred. That is, in this case, it is preferable to satisfy the following expressions (9) to (12).
- these formulas (9) to (12) are satisfied, for example, as shown by a one-dot chain line in FIG. 52 (D), one set of light sources 11 arranged on the opposite side faces faces each other.
- a gentle emission intensity distribution is formed. Further, by superimposing the light emission intensity distributions of the respective sets, a gentle light emission intensity distribution as a whole, for example, as shown by a solid line in FIG. 52D is formed. Therefore, the appearance of the boundary between the partial lighting areas becomes more natural.
- the above equations (9) to (12) do not hold between the light sources 11 arranged on the opposite side faces, that is, the following equations (13) to (16) hold. In this case, for example, as shown in FIG. 53, a gentle emission intensity distribution is not formed. From this, it can be said that it is preferable to satisfy the expressions (9) to (12).
- Light emission intensity of the light source on the side surface a Light emission intensity of the light source on the side surface d side (9) Light emission intensity of the light source on the side c side ⁇ Light emission intensity of the light source on the side f side (10) Light emission intensity of the light source on the side e side ⁇ Light emission intensity of the light source on the side h side (11) Light emission intensity of the light source on the side g side ⁇ Light emission intensity of the light source on the side j side (12) Light emission intensity of the light source on the side surface a> Light emission intensity of the light source on the side surface d side (13) Luminous intensity of light source on side c> Luminous intensity of light source on side f ... (14) Luminous intensity of the light source on the side e side> Luminous intensity of the light source on the side h side (15) Luminous intensity of light source on side g> Luminous intensity of light source on side j side (16)
- the above relationship is based on the assumption that in each unit light source unit, the intensity distribution formed by one light source and the intensity distribution formed by the other light source are ideal intensity distributions. Says. However, in reality, there is a possibility that the intensity distribution is not an ideal intensity distribution but an intensity distribution deviated from the ideal intensity distribution. In such a case, the above formulas (9) to (12) are not necessarily preferred, and the above formulas (13) to (16) may be preferred. The reason for this is the same as the reason described with reference to FIGS. 22 to 29 in the first embodiment, and a description thereof will be omitted.
- FIG. 30 in the first embodiment is used. As in the case of FIG. 33, a uniform intensity distribution can be obtained to some extent.
- the unit light source section has a curvilinear emission intensity distribution
- all the characteristics described in the present embodiment are linear as in the case of FIG. 34 of the first embodiment. It is obtained in the same manner as the unit light source unit that forms the emission intensity distribution. That is, all the diagrams representing the emission intensity distributions shown in this embodiment may be based on a curved emission intensity distribution.
- the light emission intensity due to the light emission of the light source 11 gradually increases from the side surface side of the light source 11 that emits light toward the side surface opposite thereto.
- the bright line unevenness or the line at the boundary portion of the light guide plate 12 has the following two reasons. Unevenness can be made difficult to occur, and the appearance of the boundary between the partial lighting areas can be made more natural.
- the light guide plate 12 is not disposed at the boundary portion of the light guide plate 12, light is not emitted from that portion. Therefore, it is relatively dark compared to other portions (portions where the light guide plate 12 is disposed), and as a result, joint unevenness is likely to occur. In order to solve this problem, it is preferable to make the boundary portion of the light guide plate 12 as small as possible as described later. However, since the light source 11 must be disposed, it cannot be completely eliminated. Further, in order to completely eliminate the boundary portion of the light guide plate 12, adjacent light guide plates 12 must be connected and integrated, and the basic configuration of the present invention in which a plurality of light guide plates 12 are arranged cannot be realized. . 2.
- the light emitted from the light guide plate 12 is emitted outside the light guide plate 12 after traveling in the direction away from the light source 11 in the light guide plate 12. Therefore, the peak angle of the light distribution of the emitted light (intensity distribution in the angular direction) is more likely to be away from the light source 11 than in the normal direction of the outgoing surface. 4).
- the light source 11 it is easy to emit light from the light source 11 to the joint opposite to the side where the light source 11 is disposed, and the light source 11 is disposed to the joint where the light source 11 is disposed. It is difficult to emit light from. 5).
- the light emission intensity of the light source 11 gradually increases from the side surface side of the light source 11 that emits light toward the side surface opposite thereto, the light source 11 It is necessary to emit more light at the joint on the side opposite to the side where the is disposed.
- the emission intensity of the light source 11 when the emission intensity of the light source 11 gradually decreases from the side surface side of the light source 11 that emits light toward the side surface opposite thereto, It is necessary to emit more light at the joint on the side where 11 is disposed. 6).
- the emission intensity when the emission intensity is gradually increased as in the present embodiment, it is easy to emit more light to the joint on the side opposite to the side where the light source 11 is disposed. It can be said.
- the emission intensity is gradually reduced as in the first embodiment, it may be difficult to emit more light to the joint on the side where the light source 11 is disposed. Arise. 7). As described above, in this embodiment, it can be said that unevenness of joints can be made less likely to occur than in the first embodiment.
- firefly unevenness is more likely to occur as light is emitted closer to the light source.
- the light sources are arranged on the two or three pairs of side surfaces of the light guide plate 12 that face each other, and the surface light source device emits light.
- such unit light source units may be arranged side by side along an X-axis direction, a Y-axis direction, or an oblique direction between the X-axis and the Y-axis.
- different emission intensity distributions are formed by forming different emission intensity distributions different from each other in the emission surface of each unit light source unit by the light emission of the light sources 11 on the two or three pairs of side surfaces. May be formed.
- the intensity gradient in the vertical direction is adjusted by adjusting the light emission intensity of the light source 11 arranged on the upper and lower side surfaces as in the unit light source unit 10L shown in FIGS. 54 (A) and 54 (B). be able to.
- the intensity gradient in the left-right direction is adjusted by adjusting the light emission intensity of the light source 11 arranged on the left and right side surfaces. be able to.
- the intensity gradient in the upper left and lower right diagonal direction can be adjusted. Further, for example, as in the unit light source unit 10L shown in FIGS. 55C and 55D, the light emission intensity of the light source 11 disposed on the upper and right side surfaces, and the light source 11 disposed on the lower and left side surfaces. By adjusting the emission intensity, the intensity gradient in the upper right and lower left diagonal direction can be adjusted.
- Modification of the second embodiment Modification 1
- 57 to 61 are for explaining the light emission intensity distribution in the surface light source device according to this modification.
- (B) and (D) are five unit light source units 10K1 to 10K5 arranged along the positive direction of the X-axis (each of which corresponds to the unit light source unit 10K described in the second embodiment).
- (A) and (C) show the emission intensity distribution in the X-axis direction in such a surface light source device, respectively.
- each of the unit light source units 10K1 to 10K5 includes the light guide plate 12, the light source 11L disposed on the side surface on the left side (negative side of the X axis) of the light guide plate 12, and the right side of the light guide plate 12 (X axis And a light source 11R disposed on a side surface on the positive direction side.
- the emission intensity distribution indicated by the thin line or the thick dashed line is that formed by the light source 11L
- the emission intensity distribution indicated by the thin line or the thick broken line is
- the light emission intensity distributions indicated by the thick solid lines formed by the light source 11R are the light emission intensity distributions formed by the five unit light source units 10K1 to 10K5 as a whole.
- FIGS. 57 (A) and 57 (B) For example, consider a case where only the light source 11L of the unit light source unit 10K1 is turned on as shown in FIGS. 57 (A) and 57 (B), for example. As shown in FIGS. 57A and 57B, when the light source 11L of the unit light source unit 10K1 is turned on, when the emission intensity distribution is formed only directly above the unit light source unit 10K1, By the method described, a gentle emission intensity distribution can be realized as the entire surface light source device.
- the unit light source that is lit is turned on.
- light propagates to other unit light source units located in the vicinity of the unit.
- a light emission intensity distribution non-uniform light emission intensity distribution
- Such a situation can occur, for example, in the following cases.
- the light source 11L of the unit light source unit 10K1 when the light source 11L of the unit light source unit 10K1 is turned on, For the non-uniform light emission intensity distribution formed by light propagating to the unit light source unit 10K2, by turning on the light source 11R of the unit light source unit 10K3, the non-uniform light emission intensity having substantially the same amount and reverse tendency
- the distribution is offset by forming the unit light source unit 10K3, For the non-uniform light emission intensity distribution formed by the light propagating to the unit light source unit 10K3, the light source 11R of the unit light source unit 10K4 is turned on, so that the non-uniform light emission intensity having substantially the same amount and reverse tendency.
- the distribution is offset by forming the unit light source unit 10K4.
- the non-uniform light emission intensity distribution formed by the light propagating to the unit light source unit 10K4
- the non-uniform light emission intensity distribution having the same and opposite tendency can be obtained by turning on the light source 11R of the unit light source unit 10K5.
- the unit light source unit 10K5. are offset in the unit light source unit 10K5.
- FIGS. 57 to 59 are examples in which only the left light source 11L of the leftmost unit light source unit 10K1 is turned on, but the same applies to other cases.
- FIGS. 60A and 60B when the light source 11L of the unit light source unit 10K2 and the light source 11R of the unit light source unit 10K3 are turned on, for example, FIGS.
- the following may be performed. That is, for example, as shown in FIGS.
- a gentle emission intensity distribution can be formed for the entire surface light source device.
- a gentle light emission intensity distribution is formed for the entire surface light source device as follows. can do. That is, first, the periphery necessary to form a non-uniform emission intensity distribution that is propagated when the light source at each location is turned on, and a non-uniform emission intensity distribution of the same and opposite tendency that cancels it. The light emission intensity of the light source is grasped in advance. Then, by adding and outputting all the light emission intensities of the respective light sources and the peripheral light sources necessary for the respective light sources, it is influenced by the uneven light emission intensity distribution formed by propagation. In addition, a desired gentle light emission intensity distribution can be realized as the entire surface light source device.
- the emission intensity distribution A having a peak between the unit light source units 10K1 and 10K2 is formed, the light source 11L of the unit light source unit 10K1.
- the light source 11R of the unit light source unit 10K2 is turned on, and the peripheral light sources are also turned on so that the non-uniform light emission intensity distribution formed by the propagation of light is offset.
- FIGS. 62A and 62B when the emission intensity distribution A having a peak between the unit light source units 10K1 and 10K2 is formed, the light source 11L of the unit light source unit 10K1.
- a light emission intensity distribution E is formed by adding the intensity distributions A to D.
- the emission intensity distributions A to D are set as the reference intensity distributions, and the intensity of the light source necessary for forming each reference intensity distribution is grasped in advance, and each reference luminance distribution is adjusted.
- a desired light emission intensity distribution as a whole surface light source device is not affected by the uneven light emission intensity distribution formed by the propagation of light. Can be realized.
- FIG. 65 shows an example of the light emission mode of the unit light source unit 10 (or unit light source unit 10K) according to the third embodiment of the present invention.
- the light emission intensities of the light sources 11 are independent from each other along the side surface (here, the side surface in the X-axis direction) where the plurality of light sources 11 are arranged in each light guide plate 12. It can be set.
- the light emission intensity of the light source 11 gradually changes along the side surface (here, the side surface in the X-axis direction) where the plurality of light sources 11 are arranged. The emission intensity distribution along the direction is adjusted.
- each unit light source unit 10 in the light emitting surface of each unit light source unit 10, from the side surface side of the light source 11 that emits light, as described in the first embodiment.
- the light emission intensity distribution in the light emission surface can be changed two-dimensionally.
- the side of the light source 11 that emits light within the light emitting surface of each unit light source unit 10K in the same manner as described in the second embodiment, the side of the light source 11 that emits light within the light emitting surface of each unit light source unit 10K.
- the light emission intensity distribution in the light emission surface can also be changed two-dimensionally by combining with a configuration in which the light emission intensity due to light emission of the light source 11 gradually increases from the side facing the side to the side. .
- the amount of signals sent to the light sources 11 becomes enormous and the signal processing may be complicated. Therefore, in such a case, of the plurality of light sources 11 on the side surface where the plurality of light sources 11 are arranged, such as the unit light source units 10, 10K, 10A, and 10L shown in FIGS.
- the light emission intensities of some of the light sources 11 may be made common to each other so as to send the same signal.
- the light source 11 of a certain unit is sent as one set and the same signal is sent (even with the same light emission intensity)
- the light gradually exits from the light emitting surface of the light guide plate 12 and decreases in intensity while passing through the light guide plate. Since the light is propagated, a gentle radial emission intensity distribution is obtained as shown in FIGS. Therefore, by adjusting the balance of the intensity between this one set of emission intensity distributions and another one set of emission intensity distributions adjacent to it, the two-dimensional combination is repeated to make a gentle two-dimensional combination. Can be obtained. That is, by controlling the light source 11 as a set, two-dimensional partial driving can be realized while suppressing the amount of signal sent to the light source 11.
- the light emission intensity of each light source 11 is along the side surface direction (in this case, the X-axis direction) where the light source 11 is disposed between the adjacent unit light source units 10 (10K).
- the light emission intensities of the light sources 11 adjacent to each other in the side surface direction (X-axis direction) where the light sources 11 are arranged are adjacent to each other between the adjacent unit light source units 10 (10K). It is preferable that the value is almost the same as the distribution of the changed emission intensity. Or it is preferable that the light emission intensity

- the light sources 11 in the unit light source units 10 adjacent to each other are at the same position along the arrangement direction of the light sources 11 (Y-axis direction).
- the arrangement of the light source 11 is not limited to this.
- an arrow shown from the light source 11 represents the traveling direction of the outermost (wide-angle) light ray of the light from the light source 11.
- the light sources 11 in the unit light source units 10 ⁇ / b> M adjacent to each other are arranged at alternate positions along the arrangement direction of the light sources 11 (Y-axis direction). You may be allowed to.
- each light source 11 is arranged so as to be lowered to the rear and arranged so as to fall behind the light source row of the adjacent light guide plate 12 as in the unit light source unit 10N.
- the area between the adjacent light guide plates 12 is further narrowed, so that the appearance at the boundary can be made more natural, and the surface light source device can be further improved. Thinning can be achieved.
- the light sources 11 in the unit light source part 10 adjacent to each other are the thickness directions (Z-axis direction) of the light-guide plate 12.
- the arrangement of the light source 11 is not limited to this.
- the light sources 11 in the unit light source units 10P adjacent to each other are vertically moved along the thickness direction (Z-axis direction) of the light guide plate 12. They may be arranged at alternate positions.
- the area between the adjacent light guide plates 12 can be narrowed, so that bright line unevenness and line unevenness occur at the boundary portion. It is possible to make the appearance at the boundary more natural. Further, since the distance (clearance) between the light guide plate 11 and the optical sheets 141 to 144 can be reduced, the surface light source device can be thinned.
- the mounting surface (wiring board 16) of the light sources 11 in the unit light source units 10 adjacent to each other is the same side (here, the light guide plate 12).
- the arrangement is not limited to the case of the bottom side.
- the mounting surface (wiring board 16) between the light sources 11 in the unit light source units 10 ⁇ / b> P adjacent to each other is on the opposite side (in this case, the conductive plate). It may be arranged on the upper surface side and the bottom surface side of the optical plate 12. In such a configuration, since the mounting surfaces of the wiring board 16 do not interfere with each other, the distance between the light sources 11 can be reduced, and more light sources can be arranged.
- the light source 11A or the light sources 11B in the unit light source unit 10 may be light sources that emit light in two front and rear directions, light sources that emit light in four directions, front and rear, right and left, the entire circumference, or all directions.
- the thickness of the light guide plate 12 may be changed between the side surfaces where the light sources 11 are disposed (here, the X-axis direction).
- wedge-shaped ones having different thicknesses on one side and the other side where the light source 11 is disposed. It may be a light guide plate.
- a light guide plate having a thin central portion with respect to the end portion of the light guide plate or a thick light guide plate may be used like the light guide plates 12E to 12J shown in FIGS. 84 (F) to (K).
- the thickness of the light guide plate changes, the thickness may be changed by a linear function (when the cross section is linear) or by a change other than the linear function (the cross section is curved). It may be a case).
- the thickness of the light guide plate decreases as the distance from the light source 11 increases, the light being guided in the normal direction of the light emitting surface rather than the in-plane direction of the light emitting surface (that is, in the drawing) due to the inclination of the upper and lower surfaces. Since the total reflection is easier in the Z-axis direction than in the X-axis direction, the light is easily emitted outside the light guide plate.
- the thickness of the light guide plate increases as the distance from the light source 11 increases, the light in the light guide is more in the in-plane direction of the light emitting surface than the normal direction of the light emitting surface (that is, in the drawing) due to the inclination of the upper and lower surfaces.
- the light guide plate 12 shown in FIG. 84 (A) can be applied to both the first and second embodiments, while FIGS. 84 (F), (G), and (H).
- the illustrated light guide plates 12E, 12F, and 12G are preferably applied to the first embodiment, and the light guide plates 12H, 12I, and 12J shown in FIGS. 84 (I), (J), and (K) are the second ones. It is more preferable to apply to this embodiment.
- the light guide plates 12, 12E to 12J In order to show the same light emission intensity between the light source on the left side surface and the light source on the right side surface in the figure, it is preferable to use these light guide plates 12, 12E to 12J, but the light guide plates 12A to 12A other than these are used. Even when 12D is used, the light emission on the left side surface and the light source on the right side surface in the drawing can be made to have the same emission intensity by adjusting the pattern of the light guide plate.
- a backlight that emits light on both the top and bottom surfaces may be provided by arranging optical sheets 141 to 144 on both sides of the top and bottom surfaces.
- Any light source may be used as long as it emits light, and all light sources do not have to emit light in the same wavelength region.
- a light source that emits light having a blue wavelength, a light source that emits light having a green wavelength, and a light source that emits light having a red wavelength may be used. They may be used as separate light sources or as a single packaged light source.
- a light source that emits light with a blue and green wavelength mixed and a light source that emits light with a red wavelength may be used. They may be used as separate light sources or as a single packaged light source. Further, for example, a light source that emits light in which blue and red wavelengths are mixed and a light source that emits light of green wavelength may be used. They may be used as separate light sources or as a single packaged light source. In addition, for example, two types of light sources may be used, that is, a light source that emits mixed light of green and red wavelengths and a light source that emits light of blue wavelengths. They may be used as separate light sources or as a single packaged light source.

(1) First reason First, since the

7). As described above, in this embodiment, it can be said that unevenness of joints can be made less likely to occur than in the first embodiment.
(2) Second reason When the surface light source is configured using the
9. In addition, as the distance from the light source increases, the difference between the above (i) and (ii) decreases, so that firefly unevenness is less likely to occur.
10. For these reasons, it can be said that firefly unevenness is more likely to occur as light is emitted closer to the light source. In addition, it can be said that when the amount of emitted light at a position close to the light source is reduced and the amount of emitted light at a position some distance from the light source is increased, unevenness in firefly is less likely to occur.
11. Therefore, when the emission intensity is gradually increased as in the present embodiment, the unevenness of the firefly is unlikely to occur, and conversely, the emission intensity is gradually decreased as in the first embodiment. In some cases, firefly unevenness is likely to occur.
12 From the above, it can be said that the present embodiment can make it difficult to generate firefly unevenness compared to the first embodiment.
(Modification of the second embodiment: Modification 1)
