If the download is successfully completed the stored firmware upgrade item may be installed in the television device 102 and thereby update the firmware of the television device 102. When the firmware upgrade has been downloaded from the portable memory device 110 to the television device 102 the user may remove the portable memory device 110 from the television device 102.

That is, if the portable memory device 128 initially comprises a stored firmware upgrade item a user, or operator, can insert the portable memory device 128 into the digital media reader and writer 126 of the television device 102. When the portable memory device 128 has been properly inserted the television device 102 senses the presence of the portable memory device 128. Since, according to one embodiment, the portable memory device 128 comprises a stored firmware upgrade item the television device 102 may recognize the portable memory device 128 as a device comprising a firmware upgrade item. The controller 108 may then initiate a download procedure as disclosed above.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un dispositif de télévision (102) et un dispositif de mémoire portable (110). Le dispositif de mémoire portable est connecté de manière opérationnelle au dispositif de télévision (102). Le dispositif de télévision reconnaît le dispositif de mémoire portable et écrit sur le dispositif de mémoire portable un petit fichier indiquant des informations d’identification. Le dispositif de mémoire portable est ensuite connecté de manière opérationnelle à un troisième dispositif (116). Une application démarre automatiquement et vérifie un article de mise à niveau de micrologiciel pour le dispositif de télévision et, si disponible, télécharge ce micrologiciel. Une fois achevé, le dispositif de mémoire portable est retiré du troisième dispositif et connecté au dispositif de télévision. Le dispositif de télévision détecte que le nouveau micrologiciel est présent sur le dispositif de mémoire portable et se met lui-même à niveau avec ce micrologiciel.
