Definitions

  • the invention concerns an improved frame for elements suited to cover openings made in buildings.
  • the invention concerns also a covering element suited to cover openings made in buildings and using said improved frame.
  • the invention mainly concerns covering elements of the fixed or opening type, like for example windows, skylights for the intake of light and air or smoke and heat vents installed on buildings.
  • the covering elements mentioned above comprise at least one fixed or opening cover that is associated with a corresponding opening made in the building, interposing a frame between the perimeter that delimits the opening and the perimeter that delimits the cover.
  • the cover if the covering element is a window, the cover consists of one or more panels, while if the covering element is a skylight or a smoke vent the cover consists of a sort of dome which can have various shaped and may be constituted by one or more panels.
  • the part of a covering element that disperses more heat is usually the frame, especially if it is made, for example, of steel or aluminium and its alloys, which feature a high heat transmission coefficient.
  • a method for solving the problem of heat dispersion through metal frames is represented by the "heat cutting” technique which, as is known, consists in making a through cut in the frame and dividing it into two independent portions, one in contact with the external environment and the other in contact with the internal environment.
  • the cut thus creates physical discontinuity between the two resulting portions of the frame, which prevents heat transfer by conduction from the warmer to the colder environment.
  • the frame is carried out by combining two separate section bars that are connected to each other through the interposition of an insulating element that snap-fits into both of them.
  • patent CA 1 222 165 discloses a frame consisting of two separate section bars that thus actually form a heat cut, which are connected to each other through the insertion of an insulating element.
  • the insulating element guarantees the stability between the section bars making up the frame, especially when their execution is imprecise.
  • a first drawback is represented by the fact that the presence of the heat cut reduces the mechanical resistance of the frame, above all with reference to torsional stress.
  • a further drawback is represented by the fact that the heat cutting operation increases the frame construction costs.
  • a further drawback lies in that it becomes much more complicated to fix the dome to the frame, as it is necessary to provide two series of connection elements, each one of which connects the dome to one of the two portions obtained after the heat cutting operation.
  • a further, but not less important drawback is represented by the fact that if the frame comprises a moving frame that supports the domes and cooperates with a fixed frame that delimits the opening in the building to which the covering is applied, it is necessary to carry out a heat cutting operation also on the fixed frame.
  • the object of the present invention is to overcome all the drawbacks described.
  • the invention also intends to provide a covering element for openings made in buildings that uses the improved frame of the invention.
  • the objects described above have been achieved by an improved metal frame carried out according to the contents of the main claim.
  • the frame is not subjected to heat cutting and its inner perimetrai surface facing towards the inside of the buiiding is completely covered with an annular edge made of insulating material.
  • metal frames with improved insulating properties allows the manufacturer to comply with the regulations that establish maximum dispersion values with no need to compromise on the mechanical- functional advantages offered by metal frames.
  • the possibility to obtain said increased insulating properties without subjecting the frame to heat cutting reduces construction and assembly costs and improves the mechanical characteristics of the frame compared to known frames having the same size but subjected to heat cutting.
  • the aesthetic appearance of the frame and of the covering eiement in the whole is not modified.
  • FIG. 1 shows the frame that is the subject of the invention applied to a covering element arranged in closed position
  • Figure 2 shows the covering element of Figure 1 arranged in open position
  • FIG. 3 shows an exploded .view of an enlarged detail of the frame of the invention shown in Figure 1;
  • FIG. 5 shows a construction variant of the frame that is the subject of the invention applied to the same covering element shown in Figure 1 and arranged in closed position;
  • Figure 6 shows the covering element of Figure 5 arranged in open position
  • FIG. 7 shows an enlarged detail of the frame of the invention shown in Figure 5;
  • Figure 8 shows an enlarged detail of the figures from 1 to 7.
  • the frame that is the subject of the invention indicated as a whole by 1
  • a covering element indicated as a whole by 2.
  • the covering element 2 consists of an electrically operated dome C applied to an opening A made, for example, in the roof T of a building, said dome C placing the internal environment of the building in communication with the external environment.
  • the covering element can be of any type, opening or fixed.
  • the frame 1 has closed perimeter and delimits the perimetral edge of the cover 3 of the covering element 2 consisting of a dome C with convexity Cc towards the outside.
  • the dome C in any case, can have any shape.
  • the opening A made in the roof of the building is preferably but not necessarily delimited by a support S made of insulated sheet, or in polyesther resin or another material.
  • Hinge means 4 allow the cover 3 to be rotated and opened by operating actuator means 6 preferably but not necessarily comprising and electric motor 7.
  • the frame 1 that is the subject of the invention can be applied to any type of covering element provided with fixed or opening cover, associated with an opening made in any area of the building.
  • the frame 1 comprises an annular edge 8 made of insulating material covering the entire inner perimetral surface 9 of the frame 1 facing towards the inside of the building to which the covering element 2 is applied.
  • annular edge 8 as shown above ail in the detail of Figure 8, is hollow and its cross section is substantially rectangular.
  • annular edge can be carried out with different geometry.
  • the annular edge can be solid.
  • the frame 1 is made of a metallic material, preferably but not necessarily aluminium or its alloys.
  • the only barrier to heat transmission by conduction along the frame 1 is constituted by the presence of the annular edge 8 made of insulating material.
  • the insulation power of the annular edge 8 is due both to the type of insulating material of which it is made and to the fact that, being hollow, it defines an air chamber that increases its insulation power.
  • the invention thus achieves the object to reduce heat dispersion through the frame 1 with exactly the same or even better results than those ensured by the frames of known type having the same size and subjected to heat cutting.
  • the invention also achieves the object to construct a frame whose mechanical resistance properties are not reduced as it happens, on the contrary, in the frames of the known art provided with heat cut, both if it is provided as a through cut made in the frame or if it is carried out using two separate section bars joined by means of an insulating element applied to both of them, according to the concepts described in the already mentioned patent
  • the projecting elements 11 can be provided in the frame 1 while the housing can be provided in the annular edge 8.
  • each one of them is provided with a shaped end 13 that delimits on the corresponding projecting element 11 an intermediate recess 14 included between the above mentioned shaped end 13 and the wall 15 of the annular edge 8 from which the corresponding projecting element
  • Each shaped end 13 has a triangular shape delimited by an inclined plane 13a.
  • the inclined planes 13a of the shaped ends 13 converge in such a way as to favour the deformation of the projecting elements 11 and therefore the coupling of the annular edge 8 with the frame 1 when they are forced into the corresponding housing 12 provided in the frame 1.
  • the projecting elements may be more than two and may also have a different profile.
  • the housing 12 provided in the frame 1 and accommodating the projecting elements 11 consists of the clearance 12a defined between the opposing ends 16 of a C-shaped section belonging to the frame 1 which, as can be seen, comprises a section element preferably but not necessarily obtained through an extrusion process.
  • the annular edge 8 is also provided with a shaped sealing projection 18 arranged at one end that fits into an undercut area 19 visible in Figure 4 and created between the support S and the frame 1 when they are positioned one against the other.
  • the insulating materials with which the annular edge 8 is made can be of any type, for example elastomers or plastic materials, provided that they are suitable for guaranteeing optimal heat insulation towards the outside.
  • C-shaped cross section of the frame 1 must be smaller than the distance 17 between the bottoms 14a of the intermediate recesses 14 of the projecting elements 11 in order to ensure the stability of the coupling after snapping the annular edge 8 into the C-shaped cross section of the frame.
  • the elastic recovery of the projecting elements 11 allows the opposing ends 16 of the C-shaped section of the frame 1 to fit by interference into the intermediate recesses 11 and lock the annular edge 8 onto the frame 1.
  • FIG. 1 A construction variant of the frame that is the subject of the invention is shown in Figures from 5 to 7, in which it can be observed that the frame, indicated as a whole by 20, comprises a fixed frame 21 arranged at the level of the perimeter that delimits the opening A and a moving frame 22 arranged at the level of the perimeter that delimits the cover 3, with the fixed frame 21 and the moving frame 22 cooperating with each other.
  • Both the fixed frame 21 and the moving frame 22 have the same profile, visible in the figures, and both are associated with an annular edge 8.
  • the covering element 23 which in the embodiment described herein is constituted by a dome C, comprises a cover 3 that closes an opening A made in the roof T of a building.
  • the covering element 23 can be of any other type, opening or fixed.
  • the fixed frame 21 is fixed to the support S that delimits the opening A while the moving frame 22 is connected to the fixed frame 21 through hinge means 24 visible in Figures 5 and 6.
  • the moving frame 22 can thus be opened with respect to the fixed frame 21.
  • annular edge 8 in insulating material of the type described above is applied to the inner perimetral surface 25, 26 of each one of the frames 21 and 22 shown in Figure 7, proceeding as already described.
  • annular edge can be carried out with any configuration and therefore can be made in a single annular piece or in various pieces that are joined together at the level of the angular positions.
  • the annular edge can be applied to the frame of any existing covering element, if necessary by modifying the profile of the annular edge itself.
