Abstract

The invention relates to a method for detecting and quantifying the chipping of the fixed ring of an axle bearing including a rolling path having a load area (1), the load area (1) corresponding to an angular sector of the rolling path submitted to an at least radial permanent load, wherein the method comprises the steps of carrying out measures of the space distribution of the temperature of the load area using temperature sensors (30) spatially distributed at the load area and of the variations of said space distribution, and diagnosing the occurrence of chipping when the time variations of the temperature space distribution corresponds to a predetermined criterion. The invention also relates to a temperature measuring device for implementing this method, and to an axle bearing assembly equipped with such a device.
