Description
"ARRANGEMENT INTRODUCED INTO EXTERNAL REARVIEW MIRROR"
The present specification refers to a utility model patent for an external rearview mirror belonging to the field of automotive vehicle accessories, and which received an arrangement to provide further functions other than the usual ones.
Currently, auxiliary navigation systems, and others included in automotive vehicles are known, and consist essentially of a dedicated software and hardware comprising, among others, sensor(s) for capturing images, camera(s) mounted in suitable place(s) of the vehicle. Among such systems or functions of these systems, there may be system(s) or fimction(s) intended to monitor the sides of the vehicle. In such cases, image capturing sensors are mounted in the respective sides of the vehicle.
Depending upon the vehicle type or model, mounting the sensors in its sides may pose a problem.
Thus, the object of the present utility model patent is to provide an external rearview mirror to overcome the aforementioned problem.
Another object is to provide an external rearview mirror, which besides overcoming the problem is not for this very same reason of a complex construction or manufacture level, which would cause it
to be uninteresting when compared to usual mirrors.
Another object is to provide an external rearview mirror at a suitable cost.
Therefore, in view of the aforementioned problem and with the purpose of overcoming it and an aim at meeting the objects listed above, the arrangement introduced into external rearview mirror, object of the present utility model patent has been developed, which shows as its particular characteristic the fact it is provided with an electronic image capturing sensor (camera) housed inside its casing. Such construction provided to the external rearview mirror solves the above-mentioned drawback associated with mounting image capturing sensors in the side of the vehicles pertaining to auxiliary navigation systems and others included in vehicles.
On the other hand, in addition to providing the above advantage, the construction and manufacture complexity levels and cost of the present external rearview mirror do not cause it to be uninteresting when compared to usual mirrors.
The attached drawings refer to an arrangement introduced into external rearview mirror, object of the present patent, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a scheme of the mirror and indication
of how it is set up in a vehicle; and
Fig. 2 shows a front schematic view of the mirror according to the present arrangement.
According to what is shown in the aforementioned figures, the external rearview mirror 1, object of the present utility model patent, is part of automotive vehicles 100 and comprises, essentially: the mirror 2 itself turned to the rear part of the vehicle; a mechanism 3 for adjusting the mirror position; a casing 4 which houses the mirror 2 and the adjusting mechanism 3; a base 5, where the casing is mounted and which is mounted in the vehicle side; an anti-impact mechanism 6 whose parts are mounted over the base and casing, and which is intended to dismantle the casing from its position in use when it is hit by an accidental impact, and absorb the impact and avoid damages to the casing.
Additionally, according to the present arrangement, the external rearview mirror 1 further comprises an image capturing sensor (camera) 20 housed inside its casing 4, arranged behind the mirror 2 with its object lens positioned against the rear face of the mirror, the object lens being focused rearwards next to and along the side of the vehicle and provided with an opening selected or adjusted to provide a field of vision 20' larger than the field of vision 2' provided by the mirror 2.
From the mentioned sensor 20, electric power
supply and/or image broadcasting cable(s) 21 derive(s) and extend(s) inside the casing 4, the base passage 5 and is(are) derive(d) outwards. When installing the external rearview mirror, this(these) cable(s) 21 enter(s) the vehicle compartment and is(are) connected to the system central unit 22 to which the sensor belongs, and which is set up inside the vehicle.
The image capturing sensor 20 may be associated with any system with which the vehicle is equipped, preferably an auxiliary navigation system or a function of this kind of system intended to monitor the side of the vehicle and output a visual and/or sound alarm signal when the vehicle is driven in traffic and gets laterally too close to another vehicle(s) or obstacles located laterally to the road or others, and is located in respect of these latter at a distance shorter than the safe distance or others and/or said sensor may be associated with other systems provided for other purposes. The sensor 20 may be of any type intended to capturing images, preferably sensors belonging to the alarm systems featured in automotive vehicles.
The sensor 20 is camouflaged behind the mirror 2 and captures the images thereby due to the outer reflexibility and inner transparence of the mirrored surface.
According to the basic construction described
above, the external rearview mirror object of the present patent may show modifications relating to materials, dimensions, constructive details and/or functional and/or ornamental configuration without departing from the scope of the protection claimed.
