Abstract

A motorcycle rear-view system comprises a camera 1 mounted at the rear of the vehicle to capture images of the scene behind the rider. Acquired images are displayed upon a small monitor 2 which is mounted adjacent to the motorcycle's instrument panel. A power supply interface 3 is provided to enable the system to be powered from the motorcycle's electrical system. The system provides an unobstructed view of the scene behind the motorcycle rider, thereby eliminating central blind spots.

Description

Motor Cycle Rear View System This invention relates to a system that
gives a motorcycle rider an unobstructed view of the road behind.
The view in motorcycle rear view mirrors is very restricted, particularly on sports motorcycles. The rider's arms and elbows create an obstruction to the rear view and with the mirrors mounted in the normal positions, the problem will always exist.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a CCIV bullet type camera with a wide angle tens mounted at the rear of the motorcycle and facing rearwards, and a small monitor mounted adjacent to the motorcycle instruments in full view of the rider.
Both are connected to a frame mounted power supply interface unit, powered by the motorcycle's electrical system. The monitor image Is reversed left to right so that what the rider sees at the right hand side of his screen is behind him and to his right (minor image).
Using this system the rider has an unobstructed view of the road behind, any central blind spOt beln eliminated.
Figure 1 shows the rider's view of his instruments and rear view monitor.
Figure 2 shows the motorcycle with a CCIV bullet type camera, monitor and power supply interface unit fitted.
A CCIV bullet type camera 1, a small monitor 2 and a power supply interface unit 3 are fitted to a motorcycle.
The image seen in the monitor is the unobstructed rear view as seen by the camera.
