- the support device for an electronic device comprises a supporting member 100, a fixed member 200, a hinge block 300, a stopper 400, springs 500 and a rotating shaft 600.
- the supporting member 100 has the shape of an elongated rectangular plate.
- the supporting member 100 is disposed on a back side of an electronic device such as a cellular phone.
- the fixed member 200 is fitted in and mounted to a lower side of the supporting member 100.
- the fixed member 200 has a tube-shaped connecting portion 210 at its lower end. Stopping grooves 211 are formed on the connecting portion 210.
- a cover portion 110 for surrounding or covering the stopping grooves 211 is formed at a lower end of the supporting member 100.
- the cover portion 110 has a curved shape so as to cover the stopping groove 211 such that the stopping groove is not exposed outwardly. More particularly, the opposite ends of the cover portion 110 are configured to protrude such that the opposite sides of the stopping groove 211 are hidden thereby.
- the supporting member 100 has the stopping grooves 211 of the fixed member 200 covered up by means of the cover portion 110, thereby preventing wear and damage of the components.
- the fixed member 200 is mounted to the supporting member 100 such that the connecting portion 210 resides at the lower side of the supporting member 100. When the supporting member 100 is rotated, the fixed member 200 is also rotated along with rotation of the supporting member 100. Alternatively, the fixed member 200 may be integrally formed to the supporting member 100.
- a plurality of the stopping grooves 211 is provided.
- the stopping grooves are arranged on an outer periphery of the connecting portion 210 in a circumferential direction thereof.
- the stopper 400 is seated in or rests in the stopping groove 211 during the rotation of the supporting member 100, thereby stopping the supporting member 100 associated with the stopping groove 211.
- only one stopping groove 211 may be provided to allow the supporting member 100 to stop.
- numerous stopping grooves 211 are provided, the supporting member 100 may be stopped at different angles.
- the stopper 400 which can be seated in the stopping groove, is formed at its one end with an engaging protrusion 410 and at its opposite end with a guide projection 420.
- the engaging protrusion 410 is configured to be complementary to the stopping groove 211.
- the guide projections 420 contact the springs 500.
- the engaging protrusion 410 is configured to protrude sufficiently enough to be inserted into the stopping groove 211.
- a tip end of the engaging protrusion 410 is rounded.
- the guide projections 420 protrude from the middle of the stopper 400 and both lateral sides of the stopper 400.
- the springs 500 are inserted between the guide projections 420.
- the spring 500 may include a coil spring. Both lateral sides of the spring 500 are placed in contact with the guide projections 420. Particularly, as shown in Fig. 5, opposite surfaces of the guide projection 422, which are brought in contact with the spring 500, are curved to complementarily correspond to the spring 500, thereby providing good fitting of the spring 500. As such, the spring 500 is not permitted into a flexure state during a compression thereof. Thus, the stopper 400 with the guide projections 420 does not cause the spring 500 to buckle during the compression of the spring 500, thereby increasing the force efficiency as a whole.
- the springs 500 and the stopper 400 are inserted into the hinge block 300 one after the other.
- the springs 500 inserted inside the hinge block 300 elastically supports the stopper 400 against the hinge block 300, while the stopper 400 is slidably moved as contacted to the hinge block 300.
- the rotating shaft 600 is fitted to a lower end of the hinge block 300.
- the rotating shaft 600 has the shape of an elongated circular rod.
- the rotating shaft 600 is inserted into the connecting portion 210 formed at the lower end of the fixed member 200 via the hinge block 300. That is, the rotating shaft 600 hinge-joints the hinge block 300 and the fixed member 200 to each other.
- the hinge block 300 hinge-jointed to the fixed member 200 is fixedly mounted to a lower side of the electronic device 700. Accordingly, the supporting member 100 associated with the fixed member 200 is allowed to rotate about the rotating shaft 600 positioned at the lower side of the electronic device 700 to thereby support the electronic device 700.
- the hinge block 300 may be integrally formed to the electronic device 700.
- the hinge block 300 and the fixed member 200 may be mounted in a manner opposite to the above-described arrangement. That is, on one hand, the hinge block 300 may be mounted or integrally formed to the supporting member 100. However, on the other hand, the fixed member 200 may be mounted or integrally formed to the electronic device 700.
- Figs. 6 and 9 illustrate that the supporting member 100 is in a closed position. Further, Figs. 7, 8 and 10 illustrate that the supporting member 100 is in an open position.
- the supporting member 100 when the supporting member 100 is in the closed position, the supporting member 100 and the electronic device 700 are disposed parallel to each other. Further, the fixed member 200 and the hinge block 300 also lie parallel to each other.
- the engaging protrusion 410 stays inserted in the stopping groove 211 and an expansion force of the springs 500 acts. Thus, rotation is not permitted. Further, the stopping grooves 211 are covered up by the cover portion 110 and are thus not exposed outwardly.
- the engaging protrusion 410 formed at the stopper 400 is gradually separated apart from the stopping groove 211. Further, the stopper 400 is moved toward the springs 500 while compressing the springs 500. In such a case, the springs 500 are vertically compressed due to the guide projections 420 without any leftward or rightward flexure.
- the stopper 400 is moved to the next stopping groove 211 and is seated therein by means of the expansion force of the springs 500, as shown in Fig. 8.
- the supporting member 100 In the rotation of the supporting member 100, the supporting member 100 is rotated in such a manner that its upper end is increasingly separated away from the electronic device 700. As a back face of the supporting member 100 is placed into contact with the surface, the supporting member 100 supports the electronic device 700. Contacting the back face of the supporting member 100 to the surface enlarges the contact area therebetween, thereby providing a stable stance of the electronic device 700.
- the engaging protrusion 410 provided at the stopper would not be properly seated in the stopping groove 211. This is because the expansion force of the springs 500 is weakened due to such curvature or bent. As such, the supporting member 100 fails to stop at a desired angle and is thus apt to rotate easily.
- the support device does not allow the springs 500 to buckle through the guide projections 420 provided at the stopper 400, thereby increasing the force efficiency of the springs 500. Consequently, the engagement force between the engaging protrusion 410 provided at the stopper 400 and the stopping groove 211 is enhanced.
- the support device for an electronic device of the present invention should not be limited to the above-described embodiments and may be embodied in various manners within the scope of the subject matter of the present invention.
