Description

MOULDING CHAMBER ARRANGEMENT FOR A MOULD-STRING PLANT
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a moulding chamber arrangement for a mould-string plant of the kind set forth in the preamble of claim 1.
BACKGROUND ART
In moulding chambers for mould-string plants of this kind it is known to provide a variable size of the moulding chamber by making the side walls of the moulding chamber movable and adjusting the positioning of the side walls by means of a hydraulic system. A moulding chamber of this kind is known from EP 1 149645 A1.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a moulding chamber arrangement of the kind referred to above, with which it is possible not only to reduce the width of the moulding chamber, but also the height thereof. Furthermore, it is desirable to provide the reduction of the moulding chamber in well-defined steps, whereby a very precise outer dimension of the produced moulds can be achieved. This object is achieved with a moulding chamber arrangement of said kind, which according to the present inven- tion also comprises the features set forth in the characterising clause of claim 1. With this arrangement it is possible to reduce both height and width of the moulding chamber, and the fixed dimensions of the adaptor plates provide a moulding chamber having a well-defined height and width.
Preferred embodiments, the advantages of which will be evident from the following detailed description, are revealed in the subordinate claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
In the following detailed part of the present description, the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the exemplary embodiments of a moulding chamber arrangement for a mould-string plant according to the invention shown in the drawings, in which
Fig 1 schematically shows a partly cut away side view of a moulding chamber ar- rangement in accordance with the present invention, Fig 2 shows a schematic perspective view of a set of adaptor plates and wear plates positioned outside the moulding chamber for use in a moulding chamber arrangement in accordance with the present invention,
Fig 3 shows a schematic perspective view of the arrangement of the pressure plates, piston-cylinder unit and two different sizes of pressure pattern mounting plates for use in the moulding chamber arrangement in accordance with the present invention, and
Fig 4 shows a schematic perspective view of the arrangement in connection with the swingable plates and two different sizes of swing pattern mounting plates for use in a moulding chamber arrangement in accordance with the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The moulding chamber arrangement shown in Fig 1 comprises a sand filling system 19 for filling sand into the moulding chamber 22, said moulding chamber being delimited by the two pattern plates 17, 18 and a bottom wall 23 and two side walls. The upper wall of the moulding chamber is provided with an upper wall adaptor plate 2 and an upper wall wear plate 3 in order to adjust the chamber size to a smaller size than the standard size, for which the moulding machine was originally constructed. The pressure pattern plate 17 is mounted on a pressure pattern mounting plate 13 connected to the pressure plate 12, which is movable by means of a piston cylinder unit 11 for compression of the sand introduced into the moulding chamber. Correspondingly, the swing pattern plate 18 is mounted on a swing pattern mounting plate 16 connected to the swingable plate 15, which is moved in the opposite direction of the pres- sure plate 12 when compressing the sand in the chamber. This movement is provided by means of the connection rods 20 connected to the swing frame 14.
In order to be able to discharge the produced mould, the swing frame 14 is moved to the left, as seen in the drawing, whereby the swing mechanism is activated to swing the swingable plate 15 together with the swing pattern mounting plate 16 and swing pattern plate 18 to a position, which allows the produced mould to be expelled by means of the piston cylinder unit 11 moving to the left as seen in Fig 1 , whereby the produced mould is moved to a position adjacent to the last produced mould and moved together with the mould string 21 one step forward. The set of adaptor plates and wear plates 1 shown in Fig 2 can be used for reducing the size of a moulding chamber from one standard size to another and comprises an upper wall adaptor plate 2 to be installed on the upper wall of the moulding chamber. Correspondingly, two side wall adaptor plates 4, 6 are provided for installing on the side walls of the moulding chamber. The sides of the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6 facing the mould to be produced are provided with wear plates 3, 5, 7, respectively, mounted on the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6 using conventional mounting means 10 for the wear plates. The mounting of the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6 inside the moulding chamber is preferably performed using the mounting means 9 for the wear plates for the moulding chamber, and this is made possible by removing the wear plates before inserting the adaptor plates, 2, 4, 6.
The upper adaptor plate 2 and correspondingly the upper wear plate 3 are provided with one or more sand filling openings 8 providing a connection between the sand fill- ing system of the moulding machine and the moulding chamber.
The pressure plate arrangement shown in Fig 3 comprises a pressure plate 12, on which a pressure pattern mounting plate 13 is mounted, said pressure pattern mounting plate 13 being adapted to the size of the moulding chamber after insertion of the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6 and wear plates 3, 5, 7. In a conventional way the pressure pattern mounting plate 13 is provided with a pattern plate for forming the impressions on the produced mould parts. The movement of the pressure plate 12, the pressure pattern mounting plate 13 and the pressure pattern plate 17 is provided by means of a piston-cylinder unit 11 in the conventional way.
The swing plate arrangement shown in Fig 4 comprises a swing frame 14 adapted for translational movement in order to open and close the moulding chamber. In said swing frame 14 is mounted a swingable plate 15 for mounting a swing pattern mounting plate 16. This swing pattern mounting plate 16 is in the traditional way provided with a swing pattern plate 18 in order to provide the impressions in the produced moulds. The chamber is opened for expelling the produced mould by moving the swing frame 14 in its translational movement and subsequent swinging of the swingable plate 15 with the swing pattern mounting plate 16 and the swing pattern plate 18 to give room for expelling of the produced mould by means of the piston-cylinder unit 11 moving the pressure plate 12, pressure pattern mounting plate 13 and pressure pattern plate 17 out of the moulding chamber. The pressure pattern mounting plate 13 and swing pattern mounting plate 16 are exchangeable in order to adapt the size of these plates to the size of the moulding chamber, which is changed by means of the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6 and wear plates 3, 5, 7.
Above the moulding chamber arrangement has been described in connection with a preferred embodiment and many modifications may be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus e.g. a non-symmetrical instalment of side wall adaptor plates could be envisaged in which only one side wall adaptor plate is used, whereas the opposite side of the moulding chamber is kept unchanged. Correspond- ingly, also a version in which the height of the moulding chamber is unchanged can be envisaged by not using an upper wall adaptor plate 2.
However, it is preferred to use a symmetrical system as indicated above, and furthermore it is preferred that the dimensions of the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6 together with the wear plates 3, 5, 7 are chosen in such a way that the chamber size is reduced to a chamber size of an already existing moulding machine, whereby the pattern plates from this already existing moulding machine can be used in the reduced size moulding chamber in accordance with the present invention. Furthermore, it is envisaged that further sets of adaptor plates, 2, 4, 6 may be provided in such a way that one set of adaptor plates 2, 4, 6 is supplemented with a second set of adaptor plates 2", 4", 6" mounted inside the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6, whereby a reduction of the moulding chamber to a next- following smaller size may be provided.
This last reduction may naturally also be provided by means of a separate set of adaptor plates 2"", 4"", 6"" having larger thickness than the adaptor plates 2, 4, 6.
