Abstract

Disclosed is a novel boron compound having a new molecular structure which is totally different from those of conventionally known boron compounds. This novel boron compound is useful as a light-emitting material, an electron transport material, an electron injection material, a hole-blocking material or an organic semiconductor material according to the characteristics thereof. Also disclosed are a method for producing such a novel boron compound, and a functional electronic device using such a novel boron compound. Specifically disclosed is a novel boron compound represented, for example, by the following general formula (1). This boron compound can be produced, for example, by reacting a boron compound represented by the general formula (4) below with a compound represented by the formula (5) below in the presence of a catalyst containing at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of palladium, platinum and nickel. Such a boron compound is used in a functional electronic device.
