Abstract
A process for producing light-emitting fine silicon particles which comprises: a step in which a mixture comprising a silicon source and a carbon source is burned in an inert atmosphere; a step in which a product gas is withdrawn from the inert atmosphere and rapidly cooled to obtain a mixture powder containing fine silicon particles; a step in which the mixture powder is immersed in an etchant containing hydrofluoric acid and an oxidizing agent to etch the fine silicon particles; and a step in which hydrogen atoms added to the surface of the fine silicon particles which have been etched are replaced with unsaturated hydrocarbon groups having a hydrophilic group (referred to as termination treatment).
