Abstract

An optical sheet having Fresnel lens surfaces (1a) like a planoconvex Fresnel lens, wherein the Fresnel lens surfaces (1a) are grouped into regions (R), the Fresnel lens surfaces (1a) in each region are inclined, and the light passing through the Fresnel lens surfaces (1a) in each region (R) can have a spread to a some extent. A backlight unit using the optical sheet is also provided. An optical sheet (1) like a planoconvex linear Fresnel lens has Fresnel lens surfaces (1a) divided like a planoconvex linear Fresnel lens and grouped into regions (R) each including consecutive Fresnel lens surfaces (1a). The Fresnel lens surfaces (1a) at adjacent ends of adjacent regions (R) each composed of a curved surface corresponding to the original shape like a planoconvex linear Fresnel lens or a surface approximated to the curved surface are inclined in opposite directions. The Fresnel lens surfaces (1a) in each region (R) are inclined at angles increasing toward the ends.
